MIMO Transmission with Residual Transmit-RF Impairments
Physical transceiver implementations for multiple-input multiple-output
(MIMO) wireless communication systems suffer from transmit-RF (Tx-RF)
impairments. In this paper, we study the effect on channel capacity and
error-rate performance of residual Tx-RF impairments that defy proper
compensation. In particular, we demonstrate that such residual distortions
severely degrade the performance of (near-)optimum MIMO detection algorithms.
To mitigate this performance loss, we propose an efficient algorithm, which is
based on an i.i.d. Gaussian model for the distortion caused by these
impairments. In order to validate this model, we provide measurement results
based on a 4-stream Tx-RF chain implementation for MIMO orthogonal
frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM).Comment: to be presented at the International ITG Workshop on Smart Antennas -

Measurement and Interpretation of Fermion-Pair Production at LEP energies above the Z Resonance
This paper presents DELPHI measurements and interpretations of
cross-sections, forward-backward asymmetries, and angular distributions, for
the e+e- -> ffbar process for centre-of-mass energies above the Z resonance,
from sqrt(s) ~ 130 - 207 GeV at the LEP collider. The measurements are
consistent with the predictions of the Standard Model and are used to study a
variety of models including the S-Matrix ansatz for e+e- -> ffbar scattering
and several models which include physics beyond the Standard Model: the
exchange of Z' bosons, contact interactions between fermions, the exchange of
gravitons in large extra dimensions and the exchange of sneutrino in R-parity
violating supersymmetry.Comment: 79 pages, 16 figures, Accepted by Eur. Phys. J.
RF wafer probing with improved contact repeatability using nanometer positioning
International audienceThis paper presents an improved technique for monitoring and controlling the contact condition of on-wafer RF probes with nanometer accuracy to enhance the measurement repeatability. The set-up consists of a vector network analyzer, a modified probe station with a planar calibration substrate aligned under microwave GSG probe through a closed-loop nanopositioner and a camera system. A fully one-port SOL calibration is performed in the frequency range 0.05-50 GHz. A repeatability study based on standard deviations of the measured data considering both conventional and proposed approaches is described. From these experimental results, the improvement of the technique proposed is achieved by accurately controlling the probe contacts
Efficient hierarchical approximation of high-dimensional option pricing problems
A major challenge in computational finance is the pricing of options that depend on a large number of risk factors. Prominent examples are basket or index options where dozens or even hundreds of stocks constitute the underlying asset and determine the dimensionality of the corresponding degenerate parabolic equation. The objective of this article is to show how an efficient discretisation can be achieved by hierarchical approximation as well as asymptotic expansions of the underlying continuous problem. The relation to a number of state-of-the-art methods is highlighted
Shuttle orbiter Ku-band radar/communications system design evaluation
Tasks performed in an examination and critique of a Ku-band radar communications system for the shuttle orbiter are reported. Topics cover: (1) Ku-band high gain antenna/widebeam horn design evaluation; (2) evaluation of the Ku-band SPA and EA-1 LRU software; (3) system test evaluation; (4) critical design review and development test evaluation; (5) Ku-band bent pipe channel performance evaluation; (6) Ku-band LRU interchangeability analysis; and (7) deliverable test equipment evaluation. Where discrepancies were found, modifications and improvements to the Ku-band system and the associated test procedures are suggested
