Radio resource allocation for multicarrier-low density spreading multiple access
Multicarrier-low density spreading multiple access (MC-LDSMA) is a promising multiple access technique that enables near optimum multiuser detection. In MC-LDSMA, each user’s symbol spread on a small set of subcarriers, and each subcarrier is shared by multiple users. The unique structure of MC-LDSMA makes the radio resource allocation more challenging comparing to some well-known multiple access techniques. In this paper, we study the radio resource allocation for single-cell MC-LDSMA system. Firstly, we consider the single-user case, and derive the optimal power allocation and subcarriers partitioning schemes. Then, by capitalizing on the optimal power allocation of the Gaussian multiple access channel, we provide an optimal solution for MC-LDSMA that maximizes the users’ weighted sum-rate under relaxed constraints. Due to the prohibitive complexity of the optimal solution, suboptimal algorithms are proposed based on the guidelines inferred by the optimal solution. The performance of the proposed algorithms and the effect of subcarrier loading and spreading are evaluated through Monte Carlo simulations. Numerical results show that the proposed algorithms significantly outperform conventional static resource allocation, and MC-LDSMA can improve the system performance in terms of spectral efficiency and fairness in comparison with OFDMA
Adaptive radio resource management schemes for the downlink of the OFDMA-based wireless communication systems
Includes bibliographical references.Due to its superior characteristics that make it suitable for high speed mobile wireless systems OFDMA has been adopted by next generation broadband wireless standards including Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) and Long Term Evolution – Advanced (LTE-A). Intelligent and adaptive Radio Resource Management (RRM) schemes are a fundamental tool in the design of wireless systems to be able to fully and efficiently utilize the available scarce resources and be able to meet the user data rates and QoS requirements. Previous works were only concerned with maximizing system efficiency and thus used opportunistic algorithms that allocate resources to users with the best opportunities to optimize system capacity. Thus, only those users with good channel conditions were considered for resource allocation and users in bad channel conditions were left out to starve of resources. The main objective of our study is to design adaptive radio resource allocation (RRA) algorithms that distribute the scarce resources more fairly among network users while efficiently using the resources to maximize system throughput. Four scheduling algorithms have been formulated and analysed based on fairness, throughputs and delay. This was done for users demanding different services and QoS requirements. Two of the scheduling algorithms, Maximum Sum Rate (MSR) and Round Robin (RR) are used respectively, as references to analyze throughput and fairness among network users. The other two algorithms are Proportional Fair Scheduling (PFS) and Margin Adaptive Scheduling Scheme (MASS)
Resource allocation technique for powerline network using a modified shuffled frog-leaping algorithm
Resource allocation (RA) techniques should be made efficient and optimized in order to enhance the QoS (power & bit, capacity, scalability) of high-speed networking data applications. This research attempts to further increase the efficiency towards near-optimal performance. RA’s problem involves assignment of subcarriers, power and bit amounts for each user efficiently. Several studies conducted by the Federal Communication Commission have proven that conventional RA approaches are becoming insufficient for rapid demand in networking resulted in spectrum underutilization, low capacity and convergence, also low performance of bit error rate, delay of channel feedback, weak scalability as well as computational complexity make real-time solutions intractable. Mainly due to sophisticated, restrictive constraints, multi-objectives, unfairness, channel noise, also unrealistic when assume perfect channel state is available. The main goal of this work is to develop a conceptual framework and mathematical model for resource allocation using Shuffled Frog-Leap Algorithm (SFLA). Thus, a modified SFLA is introduced and integrated in Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) system. Then SFLA generated random population of solutions (power, bit), the fitness of each solution is calculated and improved for each subcarrier and user. The solution is numerically validated and verified by simulation-based powerline channel. The system performance was compared to similar research works in terms of the system’s capacity, scalability, allocated rate/power, and convergence. The resources allocated are constantly optimized and the capacity obtained is constantly higher as compared to Root-finding, Linear, and Hybrid evolutionary algorithms. The proposed algorithm managed to offer fastest convergence given that the number of iterations required to get to the 0.001% error of the global optimum is 75 compared to 92 in the conventional techniques. Finally, joint allocation models for selection of optima resource values are introduced; adaptive power and bit allocators in OFDM system-based Powerline and using modified SFLA-based TLBO and PSO are propose
Sum Rate Maximized Resource Allocation in Multiple DF Relays Aided OFDM Transmission
In relay-aided wireless transmission systems, one of the key issues is how to
decide assisting relays and manage the energy resource at the source and each
individual relay, to maximize a certain objective related to system
performance. This paper addresses the sum rate maximized resource allocation
(RA) problem in a point to point orthogonal frequency division modulation
(OFDM) transmission system assisted by multiple decode-and-forward (DF) relays,
subject to the individual sum power constraints of the source and the relays.
In particular, the transmission at each subcarrier can be in either the direct
mode without any relay assisting, or the relay-aided mode with one or several
relays assisting. We propose two RA algorithms which optimize the assignment of
transmission mode and source power for every subcarrier, as well as the
assisting relays and the power allocation to them for every {relay-aided}
subcarrier. First, it is shown that the considered RA problem has zero
Lagrangian duality gap when there is a big number of subcarriers. In this case,
a duality based algorithm that finds a globally optimum RA is developed.
Second, a coordinate-ascent based iterative algorithm, which finds a suboptimum
RA but is always applicable regardless of the duality gap of the RA problem, is
developed. The effectiveness of these algorithms has been illustrated by
numerical experiments.Comment: 13 pages in two-column format, 10 figures, to appear in IEEE Journal

Multicast Scheduling and Resource Allocation Algorithms for OFDMA-Based Systems: A Survey
Multicasting is emerging as an enabling technology
for multimedia transmissions over wireless networks to support several groups of users with flexible quality of service (QoS)requirements. Although multicast has huge potential to push the limits of next generation communication systems; it is however one of the most challenging issues currently being addressed. In this survey, we explain multicast group formation and various
forms of group rate determination approaches. We also provide a systematic review of recent channel-aware multicast scheduling and resource allocation (MSRA) techniques proposed for downlink multicast services in OFDMA based systems. We study these enabling algorithms, evaluate their core characteristics, limitations and classify them using multidimensional matrix. We cohesively review the algorithms in terms of their throughput maximization, fairness considerations, performance complexities,
multi-antenna support, optimality and simplifying assumptions. We discuss existing standards employing multicasting and further highlight some potential research opportunities in multicast systems
Resource Allocation in Service Area based Networks
By applying joint transmission in the downlink and joint detection in the uplink, the novel service area architecture allows multiple mobile stations to be simultaneously active on the same OFDM subcarrier without causing interference to each other. Moreover, the proposed adaptive subcarrier and power allocation techniques are shown to be able to improve the spectral efficiency significantly in service area based networks. The significance of the frequency selectivity of wireless channels, the correlation among users’ spatial signatures and the presence of interferences to resource allocation is also assessed through simulations.
