Migrant families and Children's inclusion in culturally diverse educational contexts in Spain
This paper builds on the European project MiCREATE, which aimed to explore and stimulate migrant children and youth reception and inclusion in educational and social systems by adopting a child-centred approach at educational practice and policy levels. We focus on the role of the students' local and immigrant families in this often-challenging process. We have evidence of the vital role of families in children and youth education. However, research mainly focuses on teachers when discussing issues related to the reception and inclusion of migrant students in schools, often forgetting that families and children/youth are also critical elements in these processes. In this project, we have explored the roles expected and developed by local and foreign families in facilitating and accompanying schools and students on these not-always-easy paths using various methods and activities. This paper focuses on aspects of the MiCREATE project related to the crucial role of families in their children's social and educational experiences in the host country. It is based on fieldwork carried out in 16 schools in Spain, including teachers, families, students, educational community members and policymakers. Art-based research methods, open-ended interviews and focus groups provided a broad picture of the different views and expectations of all those involved in formal education. From the thematic analysis of the participants' contributions, results emerge around two main focuses: (1) difficulties migrant families face in getting involved in school life, such as cultural clashes, school segregation, migrant families' environment and the difference between primary school and secondary schools; (2) more general and specific initiatives that facilitate migrant family involvement in school life
Intelligent models for recommendation
Seminario presentado en EMAI2021, West Bengal, India, 4/4/2021[EN]Information tools are one of the types of tools available in an effort to change consumers' perceptions,
motivations, knowledge and standards. Accordingly, it is increasingly important for consumers to be able to make informed choices about the products they buy, especially in terms of sustainability. Together with the commitment of businesses and organizations to more responsible and sustainable processes and production, the implementation of the European Green Deal and the Sustainable Development Goals is an
urgent challenge to all actors in society to contribute to changing the way we meet our needs
AI models for recommendation
Ponencia presentada en EMAI2021, West Bengal, India, 4/4/2021[EN]Today, the industries of all European countries face common challenges: improving resource efficiency,
becoming more environmentally friendly, mitigating climate change, improving the digitization in all segments
of the value chain and improving transparency and safety, providing consumers with detailed information and
ensuring the safety and quality of the final product. Growing concerns about environmental and social issues are pushing the demands of stakeholders (customers, workers, shareholders, consumers, etc.) and the public towards more sustainable processes and products. Sustainability is closely linked to climate change: the introduction of sustainable measures, both by consumers and producers, is inherently a measure against climate change

Recommendation AI models: case studies
Seminario presentado en EMAI2021, West Bengal, India, 4/4/2021[EN] The targeted consumers can be not only individuals sensitive to environmental and sustainable
consumption issues, but also communities, small businesses (e.g., local coffee shop, school, sports club) that share the same concerns as their customers or are just trying to better address their needs. In addition, this tool is designed to assist decision-makers in companies (e.g., supply chain and purchasing managers) as well as policy makers in assessing the overall sustainability of products. Likewise, the tool can provide valuable information to manufacturers who, based on the "sustainable market momentum" gained, could innovate their products and their approach to improving sustainability, thus differentiating themselves from the competitio
Collaborative Learning Based on Harry Potter for Learning Geometric Figures in the Subject of Mathematics
Nowadays, education requires changes in the teaching and learning processes, through
the implementation of innovative and motivating pedagogical actions, owing to the existing needs
in society. Education, owing to the current needs of society, requires changes in the teaching and
learning processes through the implementation of innovative and motivating pedagogical actions.
The main objective of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of the collaborative method, based
on the Harry Potter theme, with respect to the traditional method in the first year of Obligatory
Secondary Education for the learning of geometric figures in the subject of mathematics. For this
purpose, a quasi-experimental, quantitative, descriptive, and correlational study has been designed,
using a standardized questionnaire as a technique to collect information. The sample is composed of
236 students from the first year of Obligatory Secondary Education distributed in eight groups (four
control and four experimental) from a public high school in the city of Cádiz (Spain). The tests carried
out show that collaborative learning generates improvements in the attitudes and mathematical
dimensions. Therefore, the collaborative method, developed by means of the Harry Potter theme
for students in the first year of Compulsory Secondary Education in the subject of mathematics,
causes a better attitude of the student towards the teaching and learning process. Furthermore, it
facilitates the acquisition of mathematical contents related to geometry, which does not directly affect
the students’ grades because, although those of the experimental group are better than those obtained
by the control group, the differences between the two are minimal
Long-term care services in 4 European countries: labour markets and other aspects
XREAP, a Catalan Network for Research in Applied Economics of 7 research groups, has organised together with the Management School of the Radboud University a seminar on long-term care service bringing together insights of the situationof this sector in Catalonia and the Netherlands. However, this electronic book includes also contribution from Germany and Finland faciliationg the lecturer a wider European perspective on developments in the longterm care labour markets and the organisation of the care service.
One of the mayor concerns of the European Union is its ageing population and to develop adequate social and economic strategy to face this challenge. One of the key issues is how care for elderly and dependent people in the future assuring the access of all, who need care, to high quality services. There is a wide range of system configuration in the European Union as well as at national as at regional level. But all these particular systems must gave respond to two main challenges caused by the multiple demographic changes: a) The increasing demand of professionalized care services and b) The lack of qualified workforces to satisfy this demand assuring a high care quality under public budget restriction. This e-book brings together articles of authors from four European countries reflecting trends in the search for new combinations between institutional, family and community provision for high quality long-term care services
Media and Education in the Digital Age
This book is an invitation to informed and critical participation in the current debate on the role of digital technology in education and a comprehensive introduction to the most relevant issues in this debate. After an early wave of enthusiasm about the emancipative opportunities of the digital «revolution» in education, recent contributions invite caution, if not scepticism. This collection rejects extreme interpretations and establishes a conceptual framework for the critical questioning of this role in terms of concepts, assessments and subversions. This book offers conceptual tools, ideas and insights for further research. It also provides motivation and information to foster active participation in debates and politics and encourages teachers, parents and learners to take part in the making of the future of our societies
A COMPARISON BETWEEN MOTIVATIONS AND PERSONALITY TRAITS IN RELIGIOUS TOURISTS AND CRUISE SHIP TOURISTS
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the motivations and the personality traits that characterize tourists who
choose religious travels versus cruises. Participating in the research were 683 Italian tourists (345 males and 338
females, age range 18–63 years); 483 who went to a pilgrimage travel and 200 who chose a cruise ship in the
Mediterranean Sea. Both groups of tourists completed the Travel Motivation Scale and the Big Five
Questionnaire. Results show that different motivations and personality traits characterize the different types of
tourists and, further, that motivations for traveling are predicted by specific —some similar, other divergent—
personality trait
