Task Recommendation in Crowdsourcing Platforms
Task distribution platforms, such as micro-task markets, project assignment portals, and job search engines, support the assignment of tasks to workers.
Public crowdsourcing platforms support the assignment of tasks in micro-task markets to help task requesters to complete their tasks and allow workers to earn money.
Enterprise crowdsourcing platforms provide a marketplace within enterprises for the internal placement of tasks from employers to employees.
Most of both types of task distribution platforms rely on the workers' selection capabilities or provide simple filtering steps to reduce the number of tasks a worker can choose from.
This self-selection mechanism unfortunately allows for tasks to be performed by under- or over-qualified workers.
Supporting the workers by introducing a task recommender system helps to solve such deficits of existing task distributions.
In this thesis, the requirements towards task recommendation in task distribution platforms are gathered with a focus on the worker's perspective, the design of appropriate assignment strategies is described, and innovative methods to recommend tasks based on their textual descriptions are provided.
Different viewpoints are taken into account by analyzing the domains of micro-tasks, project assignments, and job postings.
The requirements of enterprise crowdsourcing platforms are compiled based on the literature and a qualitative study, providing a conceptual design of task assignment strategies.
The demands of workers and their perception of task similarity on public crowdsourcing platforms are identified, leading to the design and implementation of additional methods to determine the similarity of micro-tasks.
The textual descriptions of micro-tasks, projects, and job postings are analyzed in order to provide innovative methods for task recommendation in these domains
Aspekte der Verkehrstelematik – ausgewählte Veröffentlichungen 2012

Development of an e-voting model based on cloud computing technology
The subject of research in this thesis is defining the electronic voting model using the cloud computing technology. The aim is to examine the possibility to apply this model in the area of government and education.
From the e-government aspect, the essence of e-voting model application is to improve existing, traditional voting system which, in addition to many other advantages, brings also a reduction of voting costs. When it comes to the implementation of the e-voting model in the area of electronic education, it is necessary to examine to what extent e-voting techniques can increase students’ participation and their interest in the educational process. Another way to accomplish this is to use social networks as a medium for crowdvoting, competition and collaboration among students.
The e-voting infrastructure model presented in this thesis is based on cloud computing technology. The security issue is ensured by using the cryptographic (Blockchain) protocols, relying on the e-identification principles, as a system for voters’ authentication.
Since the suggested architecture of e-voting model is multilayered, there is a possibility to integrate e-voting services, IT infrastructure and register of participants in voting process. The concept of service-oriented architecture is described in the thesis and it going to be base for e-voting system development.
With the aim to evaluate model in doctoral dissertation, testing of e-voting system’s functionality and security will be carried, with an emphasis on performance and efficiency improvement of suggested model
Quality Control in Crowdsourcing: A Survey of Quality Attributes, Assessment Techniques and Assurance Actions
Crowdsourcing enables one to leverage on the intelligence and wisdom of
potentially large groups of individuals toward solving problems. Common
problems approached with crowdsourcing are labeling images, translating or
transcribing text, providing opinions or ideas, and similar - all tasks that
computers are not good at or where they may even fail altogether. The
introduction of humans into computations and/or everyday work, however, also
poses critical, novel challenges in terms of quality control, as the crowd is
typically composed of people with unknown and very diverse abilities, skills,
interests, personal objectives and technological resources. This survey studies
quality in the context of crowdsourcing along several dimensions, so as to
define and characterize it and to understand the current state of the art.
Specifically, this survey derives a quality model for crowdsourcing tasks,
identifies the methods and techniques that can be used to assess the attributes
of the model, and the actions and strategies that help prevent and mitigate
quality problems. An analysis of how these features are supported by the state
of the art further identifies open issues and informs an outlook on hot future
research directions.Comment: 40 pages main paper, 5 pages appendi
On the adoption of crowdsourcing for theory testing
This paper examines the possibilities of using the crowdsourcing strategy for theory testing. We first analyse the relationships between theory building and theory testing activities. Then, based on a systematic review of 248 papers published in MISQ, we characterise the intents and pat-tern systems of activities that have been used for theory testing. Finally, we ascertain which ac-tivities can be crowdsourced or not and pinpoint a set of pathways supporting partial and total crowdsourcing. The obtained results show that a large number of activities related to data gath-ering can be crowdsourced, and that a number of intents have viable pathways supporting par-tial crowdsourcing
Cloud ConsultingCrowdsourcing-Based Framework for ERP Consulting
Information Technology (IT) altered the way of running businesses in all fields. The installation and integration of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system is a critical process. With the emergence of Web 2.0, many businesses were created or reengineered to gain an advantage from this technology. This offers an enormous network of users with different interests and skills, and support knowledge transfer. Our expectation is that ERP consulting business will be the next to be changed. In this work, a cloud consulting framework will be provided to enhance the services offered based on crowdsourcing. After examining literature on crowdsourcing and ERP consulting, the following research question was stated: “How can cloud consulting employ crowdsourcing to improve ERP consultancy?” Thus, the research objective is to develop a cloud consulting framework for ERP consulting based on crowdsourcing
