    Hybrid-Game Strategies for multi-objective design optimization in engineering

    A number of Game Strategies (GS) have been developed in past decades. They have been used in the fields of economics, engineering, computer science and biology due to their efficiency in solving design optimization problems. In addition, research in multi-objective (MO) and multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO) has focused on developing robust and efficient optimization methods to produce a set of high quality solutions with low computational cost. In this paper, two optimization techniques are considered; the first optimization method uses multi-fidelity hierarchical Pareto optimality. The second optimization method uses the combination of two Game Strategies; Nash-equilibrium and Pareto optimality. The paper shows how Game Strategies can be hybridised and coupled to Multi-Objective Evolutionary Algorithms (MOEA) to accelerate convergence speed and to produce a set of high quality solutions. Numerical results obtained from both optimization methods are compared in terms of computational expense and model quality. The benefits of using Hybrid-Game Strategies are clearly demonstrate

    Multi-objective design optimisation of a 3D-rail stamping process using a robust multi-objective optimisation platform (RMOP)

    The paper investigates the multi-objective design optimisation of a stamping process to control the final shape and the final quality using advanced high strength steels. The design problem of the stamping process is formulated to minimise the difference between the desired shape and the final geometry obtained by numerical simulation accounting elastic springback. In addition, the final product quality is maximised by improving safety zones without wrinkling, thinning, or failure.     Robust Multi-Objective Sustainable Reverse Supply Chain Planning: An Application in the Steel Industry

    In the design of the supply chain, the use of the returned products and their recycling in the production and consumption network is called reverse logistics. The proposed model aims to optimize the flow of materials in the supply chain network (SCN), and determine the amount and location of facilities and the planning of transportation in conditions of demand uncertainty. Thus, maximizing the total profit of operation, minimizing adverse environmental effects, and maximizing customer and supplier service levels have been considered as the main objectives. Accordingly, finding symmetry (balance) among the profit of operation, the environmental effects and customer and supplier service levels is considered in this research. To deal with the uncertainty of the model, scenario-based robust planning is employed alongside a meta-heuristic algorithm (NSGA-II) to solve the model with actual data from a case study of the steel industry in Iran. The results obtained from the model, solving and validating, compared with actual data indicated that the model could optimize the objectives seamlessly and determine the amount and location of the necessary facilities for the steel industry more appropriately.This article belongs to the Special Issue Uncertain Multi-Criteria Optimization Problem

    Determining a Robust, Pareto Optimal Geometry for a Welded Joint

    Multi-criteria optimization problems are known to give rise to a set of Pareto optimal solutions where one solution cannot be regarded as being superior to another. It is often stated that the selection of a particular solution from this set should be based on additional criteria. In this paper a methodology has been proposed that allows a robust design to be selected from the Pareto optimal set. This methodology has been used to determine a robust geometry for a welded joint. It has been shown that the robust geometry is dependent on the variability of the geometric parameters

    Robust Mission Design Through Evidence Theory and Multi-Agent Collaborative Search

    In this paper, the preliminary design of a space mission is approached introducing uncertainties on the design parameters and formulating the resulting reliable design problem as a multiobjective optimization problem. Uncertainties are modelled through evidence theory and the belief, or credibility, in the successful achievement of mission goals is maximised along with the reliability of constraint satisfaction. The multiobjective optimisation problem is solved through a novel algorithm based on the collaboration of a population of agents in search for the set of highly reliable solutions.
