A Direct Elliptic Solver Based on Hierarchically Low-rank Schur Complements
A parallel fast direct solver for rank-compressible block tridiagonal linear
systems is presented. Algorithmic synergies between Cyclic Reduction and
Hierarchical matrix arithmetic operations result in a solver with arithmetic complexity and memory footprint. We provide a
baseline for performance and applicability by comparing with well known
implementations of the -LU factorization and algebraic multigrid
with a parallel implementation that leverages the concurrency features of the
method. Numerical experiments reveal that this method is comparable with other
fast direct solvers based on Hierarchical Matrices such as -LU and
that it can tackle problems where algebraic multigrid fails to converge
Parallel Unsmoothed Aggregation Algebraic Multigrid Algorithms on GPUs
We design and implement a parallel algebraic multigrid method for isotropic
graph Laplacian problems on multicore Graphical Processing Units (GPUs). The
proposed AMG method is based on the aggregation framework. The setup phase of
the algorithm uses a parallel maximal independent set algorithm in forming
aggregates and the resulting coarse level hierarchy is then used in a K-cycle
iteration solve phase with a -Jacobi smoother. Numerical tests of a
parallel implementation of the method for graphics processors are presented to
demonstrate its effectiveness.Comment: 18 pages, 3 figure

Report on the Copper Mountain Conference on Multigrid Methods
OAK B188 Report on the Copper Mountain Conference on Multigrid Methods. The Copper Mountain Conference on Multigrid Methods was held on April 11-16, 1999. Over 100 mathematicians from all over the world attended the meeting. The conference had two major themes: algebraic multigrid and parallel multigrid. During the five day meeting 69 talks on current research topics were presented as well as 3 tutorials. Talks with similar content were organized into sessions. Session topics included: Fluids; Multigrid and Multilevel Methods; Applications; PDE Reformulation; Inverse Problems; Special Methods; Decomposition Methods; Student Paper Winners; Parallel Multigrid; Parallel Algebraic Multigrid; and FOSLS
Parallel Element-Based Algebraic Multigrid for H (Curl) And H (Div) Problems Using the Parelag Library
This paper presents the use of element-based algebraic multigrid (AMGe) hierarchies, implemented in the Parallel Element Agglomeration Algebraic Multigrid Upscaling and Solvers (ParELAG) library, to produce multilevel preconditioners and solvers for H (curl) and H (div) formulations. ParELAG constructs hierarchies of compatible nested spaces, forming an exact de Rham sequence on each level. This allows the application of hybrid smoothers on all levels and the Auxiliary-Space Maxwell Solver or the Auxiliary-Space Divergence Solver on the coarsest levels, obtaining complete multigrid cycles. Numerical results are presented, showing the parallel performance of the proposed methods. As a part of the exposition, this paper demonstrates some of the capabilities of ParELAG and outlines some of the components and procedures within the library
Adaptive Aggregation Based Domain Decomposition Multigrid for the Lattice Wilson Dirac Operator
In lattice QCD computations a substantial amount of work is spent in solving
discretized versions of the Dirac equation. Conventional Krylov solvers show
critical slowing down for large system sizes and physically interesting
parameter regions. We present a domain decomposition adaptive algebraic
multigrid method used as a precondtioner to solve the "clover improved" Wilson
discretization of the Dirac equation. This approach combines and improves two
approaches, namely domain decomposition and adaptive algebraic multigrid, that
have been used seperately in lattice QCD before. We show in extensive numerical
test conducted with a parallel production code implementation that considerable
speed-up over conventional Krylov subspace methods, domain decomposition
methods and other hierarchical approaches for realistic system sizes can be
achieved.Comment: Additional comparison to method of arXiv:1011.2775 and to

experiments changed slightly due to more systematic use of odd-even
