One of the most promising mechanisms in the field of security and information safety is authentication based on palm vein. The main reasons that vein palm becomes an authentication method is because of its distinctive privacy, as it is difficult to manipulate or change its results, because of the location of the vein within the palm. With the use of this technology, it has become easy to maintain data from unauthorized access and unwanted persons. In this work proposed model are suggested that contain four stages to reach the results: in the first stage is the pre-processing stage where histogram equation was used to enhance the image and the properties are shown, the second stage is the extracting the properties where, Gabor filter and 2-discrete wavelet filters are suggested for features extraction, where it is considered one of the most important filters used to extract the features, as well as in the third stage "PCA" are used for data or features reduction, because of its advantages in analyzing the features and reducing the spacing between them. As for the last stage, the Euclidean distance used to measure the spacing. The results were acceptable and convincing, since the similarity ratio 96.2%. These results were obtained after several tests and using the Gabor filter with 2D-discrete wavelet transform and principal component analysis (PCA), I got the best results

LEARNING-FREE DEEP FEATURES FOR MULTISPECTRAL PALM-PRINT CLASSIFICATION

The feature extraction step is a major and crucial step in analyzing and understanding raw data as it has a considerable impact on the system accuracy. Unfortunately, despite the very acceptable results obtained by many handcrafted methods, they can have difficulty representing the features in the case of large databases or with strongly correlated samples. In this context, we proposed a new, simple and lightweight method for deep feature extraction. Our method can be configured to produce four different deep features, each controlled to tune the system accuracy. We have evaluated the performance of our method using a multispectral palmprint based biometric system and the experimental results, using the CASIA database, have shown that our method has high accuracy compared to many current handcrafted feature extraction methods and many well known deep learning based methods

The fundamentals of unimodal palmprint authentication based on a biometric system: A review

Biometric system can be defined as the automated method of identifying or authenticating the identity of a living person based on physiological or behavioral traits. Palmprint biometric-based authentication has gained considerable attention in recent years. Globally, enterprises have been exploring biometric authorization for some time, for the purpose of security, payment processing, law enforcement CCTV systems, and even access to offices, buildings, and gyms via the entry doors. Palmprint biometric system can be divided into unimodal and multimodal. This paper will investigate the biometric system and provide a detailed overview of the palmprint technology with existing recognition approaches. Finally, we introduce a review of previous works based on a unimodal palmprint system using different databases

Region of interest extraction for biometric cryptosystem

    Get PDF
Biometric technology is becoming more and more significant these days. Most of the application in store today are using biometric as a means of person authentication as it offer a convenient and easy way of authentication. Palm vein biometry is mostly used in many authentication system as it offer better security as veins are located on the subcutaneous layer of the skin and is impossible to be forged. However, there are still some issues in order to obtain high accuracy in palm vein authentication system such as some feature are not correctly extracted because of poor preprocessing process. Poor preprocessing process will produce weak keys for authentication purpose. Therefore, this paper proposed a hybrid of Gabor filter and maximum inscribe circle to obtain better region of interest for feature extraction as well as improving the accuracy of the authentication system

Multi-modal palm-print and hand-vein biometric recognition at sensor level fusion

When it is important to authenticate a person based on his or her biometric qualities, most systems use a single modality (e.g. fingerprint or palm print) for further analysis at higher levels. Rather than using higher levels, this research recommends using two biometric features at the sensor level. The Log-Gabor filter is used to extract features and, as a result, recognize the pattern, because the data acquired from images is sampled at various spacing. Using the two fused modalities, the suggested system attained greater accuracy. Principal component analysis (PCA) was performed to reduce the dimensionality of the data. To get the optimum performance between the two classifiers, fusion was performed at the sensor level utilizing different classifiers, including K-nearest neighbors (K-NN) and support vector machines (SVMs). The technology collects palm prints and veins from sensors and combines them into consolidated images that take up less disk space. The amount of memory needed to store such photos has been lowered. The amount of memory is determined by the number of modalities fused

    Handbook of Vascular Biometrics

This open access handbook provides the first comprehensive overview of biometrics exploiting the shape of human blood vessels for biometric recognition, i.e. vascular biometrics, including finger vein recognition, hand/palm vein recognition, retina recognition, and sclera recognition. After an introductory chapter summarizing the state of the art in and availability of commercial systems and open datasets/open source software, individual chapters focus on specific aspects of one of the biometric modalities, including questions of usability, security, and privacy. The book features contributions from both academia and major industrial manufacturers

Bimodal Biometric Verification Mechanism using fingerprint and face images(BBVMFF)

An increased demand of biometric authentication coupled with automation of systems is observed in the recent times. Generally biometric recognition systems currently used consider only a single biometric characteristic for verification or authentication. Researchers have proved the inefficiencies in unimodal biometric systems and propagated the adoption of multimodal biometric systems for verification. This paper introduces Bi-modal Biometric Verification Mechanism using Fingerprint and Face (BBVMFF). The BBVMFF considers the frontal face and fingerprint biometric characteristics of users for verification. The BBVMFF Considers both the Gabor phase and magnitude features as biometric trait definitions and simple lightweight feature level fusion algorithm. The fusion algorithm proposed enables the applicability of the proposed BBVMFF in unimodal and Bi-modal modes proved by the experimental results presented
