DIFFERENTIAL EVOLUTION FOR OPTIMIZATION OF PID GAIN IN ELECTRICAL DISCHARGE MACHINING CONTROL SYSTEM
ABSTRACT
PID controller of servo control system maintains the gap between Electrode and workpiece in Electrical Dis- charge Machining (EDM). Capability of the controller is significant since machining process is a stochastic phenomenon and physical behaviour of the discharge is unpredictable. Therefore, a Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) controller using Differential Evolution (DE) algorithm is designed and applied to an EDM servo actuator system in order to find suitable gain parameters. Simulation results verify the capabilities and effectiveness of the DE algorithm to search the best configuration of PID gain to maintain the electrode position.

Quantifying the Impact of Parameter Tuning on Nature-Inspired Algorithms
The problem of parameterization is often central to the effective deployment
of nature-inspired algorithms. However, finding the optimal set of parameter
values for a combination of problem instance and solution method is highly
challenging, and few concrete guidelines exist on how and when such tuning may
be performed. Previous work tends to either focus on a specific algorithm or
use benchmark problems, and both of these restrictions limit the applicability
of any findings. Here, we examine a number of different algorithms, and study
them in a "problem agnostic" fashion (i.e., one that is not tied to specific
instances) by considering their performance on fitness landscapes with varying
characteristics. Using this approach, we make a number of observations on which
algorithms may (or may not) benefit from tuning, and in which specific
circumstances.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures. Accepted at the European Conference on Artificial

Bat Algorithm: Literature Review and Applications
Bat algorithm (BA) is a bio-inspired algorithm developed by Yang in 2010 and
BA has been found to be very efficient. As a result, the literature has
expanded significantly in the last 3 years. This paper provides a timely review
of the bat algorithm and its new variants. A wide range of diverse applications
and case studies are also reviewed and summarized briefly here. Further
research topics are also discussed.Comment: 10 page
PID Designs Using DE and PSO Algorithms for Damping Oscillations in a DC Motor Speed
In this paper, a design and a simulation of a PID controller are presented to control a DC motor speed. The design is proposed to increase a dynamic stability of the motor speed. Changing the speed setpoint values may generate oscillations, thus the controller is required to maintain a system stability. The PID controller is tuned using Differential Evolutionary (DE) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithms. Performance of both algorithms is compared by Integral Square Error (ISE) and rise time values. Experiments are performed by changing the speed setpoint values. In simulation results, the ISE and the rise time values of the DE algorithm are slower than the PSO algorithm
Optimal design of single-tuned passive filters using response surface methodology
This paper presents an approach based on Response Surface Methodology (RSM) to find the optimal parameters of the single-tuned passive filters for harmonic mitigation. The main advantages of RSM can be underlined as easy implementation and effective computation. Using RSM, the single-tuned harmonic filter is designed to minimize voltage total harmonic distortion (THDV) and current total harmonic distortion (THDI). Power factor (PF) is also incorporated in the design procedure as a constraint. To show the validity of the proposed approach, RSM and Classical Direct Search (Grid Search) methods are evaluated for a typical industrial power system
