Performance of CAM based Safety Applications using ITS-G5A MAC in High Dense Scenarios

ETSI ITS-G5 is the current vehicle-to-vehicle communication technology in Europe, which will be standardized by ETSI TC ITS. It is based on IEEE 802.11p and therefore uses a CSMA/CA scheme for Media Access Control (MAC). In this paper we analyze the performance of CAM based safety applications using the ETSI ITS-G5 MAC technology in a challenging scenario with respect to MAC issues: A suitable freeway segment with 6 lanes in each direction. The freeway scenario is thoroughly modeled and implemented in the well known ns-3 simulation environment. Based on this model, the paper shows the performance of CAM based safety applications under MAC challenging conditions. Therefore we provide a set of simulation results resting upon a particular performance metric which incorporates the key requirements of safety applications. Finally we analyze two concrete example scenarios to make a point how reliable CAM based safety applications are in high dense traffic scenarios

Prozeßverbesserung der Projektorganisation

Im Mittelpunkt steht die organisatorische sowie die informations- und kommunikationstechnische Gestaltung von (Teil-)Projekten. Es werden die Grundideen des Fertigungsinsel- und Planungsinselkozeptes aufgegriffen und ein Modell zur Prozeßverbesserung von Projekten, zum sogenannten ""Projektinselkonzept"" (PIK), zusammengefügt. Ein weiteres tragendes Elemente im PIK stellt eine Lernende Projektorganisation dar und gewährleistet damit Größenvorteile, Lern- bzw. Erfahrungskurven und damit eine Beschleunigung der Projektprozesse. Unterstützt wird das PIK durch eine Auswahl individueller Informations- und Kommunikationssysteme, wie bspw. Groupware- und Worflowanwendungen

Der Entwicklungsaufwand der Anwendungsintegration. Eine empirische Untersuchung der Einflussfaktoren

In den vergangenen Jahren hat die Anwendungsintegration zunehmend an praktischer Bedeutung gewonnen. Gleichwohl ist die wissenschaftliche Auseinandersetzung mit dieser spezifischen Ausprägung der Softwareentwicklung erst wenig fortgeschritten. Unter anderem sind keine geeigneten Methoden zur Schätzung des Entwicklungsaufwands der Anwendungsintegration verfügbar. Diese unzureichende methodische Unterstützung der Aufwandschätzung wird als wichtiger Grund dafür angesehen, dass viele Integrationsvorhaben durch große Termin- und Kostenüberschreitungen gekennzeichnet sind. Die Frage, welche Faktoren in die Aufwandschätzung einbezogen werden müssen, konnte bislang aufgrund des Mangels angemessener empirischer oder theoretischer Erkenntnisse nicht zuverlässig beantwortet werden. Diese Arbeit leistet einen Beitrag zur Behebung dieses Mangels. In einer empirischen Untersuchung wurden erstmals die Erfahrungswerte und Einschätzungen kompetenter Praktiker zu den maßgeblichen Einflussfaktoren auf den Entwicklungsaufwand der Anwendungsintegration in systematischer Weise erhoben und inhaltlich ausgewertet. Durch die angewandte Forschungsmethode, eine qualitative und idiographische Variante der Repertory Grid Technique, konnte ein umfangreicher Katalog persönlicher Konstrukte erhoben werden, der einen wertvollen wissenschaftlichen Beitrag zur Untersuchung der Einflussfaktoren auf den Entwicklungsaufwand der Anwendungsintegration darstellt. Die Untersuchungsergebnisse wurden darüber hinaus in eine Checkliste für die Durchführung von Aufwandschätzungen überführt. Auf diese Weise leistet die vorgelegte Arbeit einen unmittelbaren Beitrag zur Lösung des aufgezeigten Praxisproblems: sie bietet erstmalig eine spezifische Unterstützung zur Schätzung des Entwicklungsaufwands der Anwendungsintegration

Quality of experience management for YouTube: clouds, FoG and the AquareYoum

Over the last decade, Quality of Experience (QoE) has become a new, central paradigm for understanding the quality of networks and services. In particular, the concept has attracted the interest of communication network and service providers, since being able to guarantee good QoE to customers provides an opportunity for differentiation. In this paper we investigate the potential as well as the implementation challenges of QoE management in the Internet. Using YouTube video streaming service as example, we discuss the different elements that are required for the realization of the paradigm-shift towards truly user-centric network orchestration. To this end, we elaborate QoE management requirements for two complementary network scenarios (wireless mesh Internet access networks vs. global Internet delivery) and provide a QoE model for YouTube taking into account impairments like stalling and initial delay. We present two YouTube QoE monitoring approaches operating on the network and the end user level. Finally, we demonstrate how QoE can be dynamically optimized in both network scenarios with two exemplary concepts, AquareYoum and FoG, respectively. Our results show how QoE management can truly improve the user experience while at the same time increase the efficiency of network resource allocation
