    New impulse (noncausality) test for descriptor systems by Mobius-transformation

    Descriptor systems (DSs) are usually used to model very-large-scale integration (VLSI) circuit systems and multibody dynamics macromodeling. The analysis of DSs, however, is much more complicated than linear time-invariant (LTI) systems due to the poles at infinity. Mȯbius transformation (MT) provides a way to transform poles at infinity to finite poles and largely facilitates the reuse or adaptation of the standard techniques for LTI system to analyze DSs. Nonetheless, MT is well known in the literature and its potential use is currently less appreciated in the analysis of DSs. This paper gives a new way to the impulse (noncausality) test using the properties of the transformed LTI systems by MT. Moreover, the applications to the analysis of controllability, observability and regularity are given.     Gridding discretization-based multiple stability switching delay search algorithm: The movement of a human being on a controlled swaying bow

    Delay represents a significant phenomenon in the dynamics of many human-related systems - including biological ones. It has i.a. a decisive impact on system stability, and the study of this influence is often mathematically demanding. This paper presents a computationally simple numerical gridding algorithm for the determination of stability margin delay values in multiple-delay linear systems. The characteristic quasi-polynomial - the roots of which decide about stability - is subjected to iterative discretization by means of pre-warped bilinear transformation. Then, a linear and a quadratic interpolation are applied to obtain the associated characteristic polynomial with integer powers. The roots of the associated characteristic polynomial are closely related to the estimation of roots of the original characteristic quasi-polynomial which agrees with the system's eigenvalues. Since the stability border is crossed by the leading one, the switching root locus is enhanced using the Regula Falsi interpolation method. Our methodology is implemented on - and verified by - a numerical bio-cybernetic example of the stabilization of a human-being's movement on a controlled swaying bow. The advantage of the proposed novel algorithm lies in the possibility of the rapid computation of polynomial zeros by means of standard programs for technical computing; in the low level of mathematical knowledge required; and, in the sufficiently high precision of the roots loci estimation. The relationship to the direct search QuasiPolynomial (mapping) Rootfinder algorithm and computational complexity are discussed as well.     On the Reachability of a Feedback Controlled Leontief-Type Singular Model Involving Scheduled Production, Recycling and Non-Renewable Resources

    This paper proposes and studies the reachability of a singular regular dynamic discrete Leontief-type economic model which includes production industries, recycling industries, and non-renewable products in an integrated way. The designed prefixed final state to be reached, under discussed reachability conditions, is subject to necessary additional positivity-type constraints which depend on the initial conditions and the final time for the solution to match such a final prescribed state. It is assumed that the model may be driven by both the demand and an additional correcting control in order to achieve the final targeted state in finite time. Formal sufficiency-type conditions are established for the proposed singular Leontief model to be reachable under positive feedback, correcting controls designed for appropriate demand/supply regulation.     A state-of-the-art review on theory and engineering applications of eigenvalue and eigenvector derivatives

    Eigenvalue and eigenvector derivatives with respect to system design variables and their applications have been and continue to be one of the core issues in the design, control and identification of practical engineering systems. Many different numerical methods have been developed to compute accurately and efficiently these required derivatives from which, a wide range of successful applications have been established. This paper reviews and examines these methods of computing eigenderivatives for undamped, viscously damped, nonviscously damped, fractional and nonlinear vibration systems, as well as defective systems, for both distinct and repeated eigenvalues. The underlying mathematical relationships among these methods are discussed, together with new theoretical developments. Major important applications of eigenderivatives to finite element model updating, structural design and modification prediction, performance optimization of structures and systems, optimal control system design, damage detection and fault diagnosis, as well as turbine bladed disk vibrations are examined. Existing difficulties are identified and measures are proposed to rectify them. Various examples are given to demonstrate the key theoretical concepts and major practical applications of concern.
