Performance of cluster-based cognitive multihop networks under joint impact of hardware noises and non-identical primary co-channel interference
In this paper, we evaluate outage probability (OP) of a cluster-based multi-hop protocol operating on an underlay cognitive radio (CR) mode. The primary network consists of multiple independent transmit/receive pairs, and the primary transmitters seriously cause co-channel interference (CCI) to the secondary receivers. To improve the outage performance for the secondary network under the joint impact of the CCI and hardware imperfection, we employ the best relay selection at each hop. Moreover, the destination is equipped with multiple antennas and uses the selection combining (SC) technique to enhance the reliability of the data transmission at the last hop. For performance evaluation, we first derive an exact formula of OP for the primary network which is used to calculate the transmit power of the secondary transmitters. Next, an exact closed-form expression of the end-to-end OP for the secondary network is derived over Rayleigh fading channels. We then perform Monte-Carlo simulations to validate the derivations. The results present that the CCI caused by the primary operations significantly impacts on the outage performance of the secondary network
Cooperative Feedback for Multi-Antenna Cognitive Radio Networks
Cognitive beamforming (CB) is a multi-antenna technique for efficient
spectrum sharing between primary users (PUs) and secondary users (SUs) in a
cognitive radio network. Specifically, a multi-antenna SU transmitter applies
CB to suppress the interference to the PU receivers as well as enhance the
corresponding SU-link performance. In this paper, for a
multiple-input-single-output (MISO) SU channel coexisting with a
single-input-single-output (SISO) PU channel, we propose a new and practical
paradigm for designing CB based on the finite-rate cooperative feedback from
the PU receiver to the SU transmitter. Specifically, the PU receiver
communicates to the SU transmitter the quantized SU-to-PU channel direction
information (CDI) for computing the SU transmit beamformer, and the
interference power control (IPC) signal that regulates the SU transmission
power according to the tolerable interference margin at the PU receiver. Two CB
algorithms based on cooperative feedback are proposed: one restricts the SU
transmit beamformer to be orthogonal to the quantized SU-to-PU channel
direction and the other relaxes such a constraint. In addition, cooperative
feedforward of the SU CDI from the SU transmitter to the PU receiver is
exploited to allow more efficient cooperative feedback. The outage
probabilities of the SU link for different CB and cooperative
feedback/feedforward algorithms are analyzed, from which the optimal
bit-allocation tradeoff between the CDI and IPC feedback is characterized.Comment: 26 pages; to appear in IEEE Trans. Signal Processin
Maximum Throughput of a Secondary User Cooperating with an Energy-Aware Primary User
This paper proposes a cooperation protocol between a secondary user (SU) and
a primary user (PU) which dedicates a free frequency subband for the SU if
cooperation results in energy saving. Time is slotted and users are equipped
with buffers. Under the proposed protocol, the PU releases portion of its
bandwidth for secondary transmission. Moreover, it assigns a portion of the
time slot duration for the SU to relay primary packets and achieve a higher
successful packet reception probability at the primary receiver. We assume that
the PU has three states: idle, forward, and retransmission states. At each of
these states, the SU accesses the channel with adaptive transmission
parameters. The PU cooperates with the SU if and only if the achievable average
number of transmitted primary packets per joule is higher than the number of
transmitted packets per joule when it operates alone. The numerical results
show the beneficial gains of the proposed cooperative cognitive protocol.Comment: Accepted WiOpt 201
