On Life and Language:\ud Limit, Context and Belief in Wittgenstein and Ortega y Gasset

Despite both thinkers belonging to the tragic generation of\ud 1914, Ludwig Wittgenstein (1888-1951) and José Ortega y\ud Gasset (1883-1955) never actually met in their lives or in\ud their texts (neither those they wrote nor those they read).\ud Coming from very separate philosophical traditions – the\ud logical atomism of Wittgenstein and the neo-Kantianism\ud and phenomenology of Ortega – the works of these two\ud philosophers nevertheless show latent conceptual\ud affinities. We shall limit ourselves to suggesting three\ud possible conceptual keys: limit, context and belief. We\ud shall then finally take Wittgenstein"s distinction between\ud sagen and zeigen in the light of the difference Ortega\ud highlights between talking and saying, reflecting upon the\ud limits of language and the meaning each thinker gives to\ud silence

Treatment of Galium L. (Rubiaceae) in Flora Iberica

A taxonomic study of the genus Galium has shown the presence of 51 species and 14 subspecies in Flora Iberica. These taxa are gathered in 10 previously known sections, and in some of them new series are recognized: Galium sect. Galium ser. Trichogaliopsis (Lange) Ortega-Olivencia & Devesa, Galium sect. Galium ser. Andalusiana Ortega-Olivencia & Devesa, Galium sect. Platygalium ser. Platygalium (DC.) Ortega- Olivencia & Devesa, Galium sect. Platygalium ser. Ephedrogalium Ortega-Olivencia & Devesa and Galium sect. Leiogalium ser. Pulchra Ortega-Olivencia & Devesa. Ser. Ephedrogalium only comprises G. ephedroides, a species where a study of the foliar anatomy has been carried. Its leaves show three nerves and that character justifies its inclusion into section Platygalium. Also, a new variety is described in G. idubedae (Pau ex Debeaux) Pau ex Ehrend. (Galium sect. Derealization and difference: Fundamental concepts of Ortega y Gasset’s aesthetics

En este artículo pensamos críticamente la estética de Ortega y Gasset. Esa estética consiste básicamente en una filosofía del arte, cuyo tema principal es la pregunta por la esencia del arte. Ortega piensa que el arte es desrealización e irrealidad. Esto significa que el arte es algo esencialmente diferente de la realidad. Para Ortega, esa diferencia es estética y ontológica. Esa diferencia es su pensamiento estético fundamental y lo quedistingue su filosofía estética de la hermenéutica, la deconstrucción y el arte conceptual. Para Ortega, arte y realidad son dos mundos absolutamente diferentes, pero en la filosofía contemporánea hermenéutica y deconstructiva esta delimitación no es evidente. La pregunta ‘¿qué es el arte?’ es ya una respuesta.In this article we think critically the aesthetics of Ortega y Gasset. This aesthetics consists basicallyin a philosophy of art which main theme is the question of the essence of art. Ortega thinks that art is derealization and irreality. This means that art is something essentially different from the reality. For Ortega, this difference is aesthetic and ontological. This difference is his fundamental aesthetic thought, and this is what distinguishes his aesthetic philosophy from hermeneutics, deconstruction and from conceptual art. For Ortega, art and reality are two absolutely different worlds, but in the contemporary hermeneutic and deconstructionist philosophy this delimitation is not evident.
