COST EFFICIENT PROVISIONING OF MASS MOBILE MULTIMEDIA SERVICES IN HYBRID CELLULAR AND BROADCASTING SYSTEMS
This dissertation studies the performance of the hybrid HSDPA/MBMS and HSDPA/DVB-H
networks to provide mobile TV services in realistic scenarios. Moreover, an hybrid network planning has been done in order to provide Valencia city with a mobile TV service. On the one hand, the performance of the hybrid HSDPA/MBMS network is investigated. We study the requierement of implement MBMS in some of the cellular sites and we choose which of them have to implement it (hybrid planning) with the aim of maximizing the number of users correctly served, both TV users and voice and data users. On the other hand, it is also investigated the performance of the hybrid HSDPA/ DVB-H network. We optimize the location of the DVB-H transmiters with the same objective as before, maximize the number of users served. This study will be done for three different data rates and for three service probability of demand combinations.Fernández Aguilella, A. (2009). The new enhancement of UMTS: HSDPA and HSUPA
During the last two decades, the world of the mobile communications grew a lot, as a
consequence of the increasing necessity of people to communicate. Now, the mobile
communications still need to improve for satisfies the user demands.
The new enhancement of UMTS in concrete HSDPA and HSUPA is one of these
improvements that the society needs. HSDPA and HSUPA which together are called
HSPA, give to the users higher data rates in downlink and uplink. The higher data rates
permit to the operators give more different types of services and at the same time with
better quality. As a result, people can do several new applications with their mobile
terminals like applications that before a computer and internet connection were
required, now it is possible to do directly with the mobile terminal.
This thesis consists in study these new technologies denominated HSDPA and HSUPA
and thus know better the last tendencies in the mobile communications. Also it has a
roughly idea about the future tendencies
THROUGHPUT OPTIMIZATION AND ENERGY EFFICIENCY OF THE DOWNLINK IN THE LTE SYSTEM
Nowadays, the usage of smart phones is very popular. More and more people access the Internet with their smart phones. This demands higher data rates from the mobile network operators. Every year the number of users and the amount of information is increasing dramatically. The wireless technology should ensure high data rates to be able to compete with the wire-based technology. The main advantage of the wireless system is the ability for user to be mobile. The 4G LTE system made it possible to gain very high peak data rates. The purpose of this thesis was to investigate the improvement of the system performance for the downlink based on different antenna configurations and different scheduling algorithms. Moreover, the fairness between the users using different schedulers has been analyzed and evaluated. Furthermore, the energy efficiency of the scheduling algorithms in the downlink of LTE systems has been considered. Some important parts of the LTE system are described in the theoretical part of this thesis.fi=Opinnäytetyö kokotekstinä PDF-muodossa.|en=Thesis fulltext in PDF format.|sv=Lärdomsprov tillgängligt som fulltext i PDF-format
The strategies associated with the migration of networks to 4G
The networks need to provide higher speeds than those offered today.
For it, considering that in the spectrum radio technologies is the scarcest resource in the development of these technologies and the new developments is essential to maximize the performance of bits per hertz transmitted. Long Term Evolution optimize spectral efficiency modulations with new air interface, and more advanced algorithms radius. These capabilities is the fact that LTE is an IPbased
technology that enables end-to-end offer high transmission
rates per user and very low latency, ie delay in the response times of the network around only 10 milliseconds, so you can offer any realtime application.
LTE is the latest standard in mobile network technology and 3GPP ensure competitiveness in the future, may be considered a technology bridge between 3G networks - current 3.5G and future 4G networks, which are expected to reach speeds of up to 1G .
LTE operators provide a simplified architecture but both robust, supporting services on IP technology. The objectives to be achieved through its implementation are ambitious, first users have a wide range of added services like capabilities that currently enjoys with residential broadband access at competitive prices, while the operator
will have a network fully IP-based environment, reducing the
complexity and cost of the same, which will give operators the opportunity to migrate to LTE directly.
A major advantage of LTE is its ability to fuse with existing networks, ensuring interconnection with the same, increasing his current coverage and allowing a data connection established by a user in the environment continue when fade the coverage LTE. Moreover, the operator has the advantage of deploying network gradually, starting initially at areas of high demand for broadband services and expand progressively in line with this.
MAC Scheduling Strategies in LTE Advanced
An Efficient scheduling algorithm at the data link layer is needed in multiuser systems to efficiently exploit the benefits of multiuser multiple input multiple output (MIMO). The 3G partnership programme (3GPP) does not specify any specific scheduling for Long Term Evolution (LTE) Advanced; we can have any one of the scheduling strategies applicable for LTE Advanced. There is substantial amount of literature on scheduling algorithms for multiuser wireless systems. In this paper, we are presenting various types of scheduling schemes of LTE Advanced, their advantages, and inefficiencies. Keywords – Scheduling, MIMO, LTE Advanced, Channel state information (CSI) , Adaptive modulation and coding (AMC)

Multimedia delivery in the future internet
The term “Networked Media” implies that all kinds of media including text, image, 3D graphics, audio
and video are produced, distributed, shared, managed and consumed on-line through various networks,
like the Internet, Fiber, WiFi, WiMAX, GPRS, 3G and so on, in a convergent manner [1]. This white
paper is the contribution of the Media Delivery Platform (MDP) cluster and aims to cover the Networked
challenges of the Networked Media in the transition to the Future of the Internet.
Internet has evolved and changed the way we work and live. End users of the Internet have been confronted
with a bewildering range of media, services and applications and of technological innovations concerning
media formats, wireless networks, terminal types and capabilities. And there is little evidence that the pace
of this innovation is slowing. Today, over one billion of users access the Internet on regular basis, more
than 100 million users have downloaded at least one (multi)media file and over 47 millions of them do so
regularly, searching in more than 160 Exabytes1 of content. In the near future these numbers are expected
to exponentially rise. It is expected that the Internet content will be increased by at least a factor of 6, rising
to more than 990 Exabytes before 2012, fuelled mainly by the users themselves. Moreover, it is envisaged
that in a near- to mid-term future, the Internet will provide the means to share and distribute (new)
multimedia content and services with superior quality and striking flexibility, in a trusted and personalized
way, improving citizens’ quality of life, working conditions, edutainment and safety.
In this evolving environment, new transport protocols, new multimedia encoding schemes, cross-layer inthe
network adaptation, machine-to-machine communication (including RFIDs), rich 3D content as well as
community networks and the use of peer-to-peer (P2P) overlays are expected to generate new models of
interaction and cooperation, and be able to support enhanced perceived quality-of-experience (PQoE) and
innovative applications “on the move”, like virtual collaboration environments, personalised services/
media, virtual sport groups, on-line gaming, edutainment. In this context, the interaction with content
combined with interactive/multimedia search capabilities across distributed repositories, opportunistic P2P
networks and the dynamic adaptation to the characteristics of diverse mobile terminals are expected to
contribute towards such a vision.
Based on work that has taken place in a number of EC co-funded projects, in Framework Program 6 (FP6)
and Framework Program 7 (FP7), a group of experts and technology visionaries have voluntarily
contributed in this white paper aiming to describe the status, the state-of-the art, the challenges and the way
ahead in the area of Content Aware media delivery platforms
LTE performance study
Long Term Evolution (LTE) has been designed with new architecture and features to meet user’s high data rates demand for a longer term in the future. 3rd Generation Part-nership Project (3GPP) has set the goals and targets for LTE with better performance and data rates close to fixed networks.
In this thesis outdoor measurements have been conducted in three different environ-ments macro/rural, urban and suburban. This thesis study has been done with single user measurements and performance analysis scenario. The idea of measurements was to analyze LTE performance in three different types of environments. Performance analysis has been done using few key performance indicators and parameters including RSRP, RS SNR, MAC downlink throughput, timing advance and CQI. Vendor/operator specific key performance indicators and parameters were unknown.
The results and analysis of this thesis give an idea about LTE performance in three dif-ferent outdoor environments. The output of this thesis study can be beneficial in under-standing LTE behavior and performance in different environments, which can be further useful in planning and deployment phases for LTE
