Covariance-Based Estimation from Multisensor Delayed Measurements with Random Parameter Matrices and Correlated Noises
The optimal least-squares linear estimation problem is addressed for a class of discrete-time multisensor linear stochastic systems subject to randomly delayed measurements with different delay rates. For each sensor, a different binary sequence is used to model the delay process. The measured outputs are perturbed by both random parameter matrices and one-step autocorrelated and cross correlated noises. Using an innovation approach, computationally simple recursive algorithms are obtained for the prediction, filtering, and smoothing problems, without requiring full knowledge of the state-space model generating the signal process, but only the information provided by the delay probabilities and the mean and covariance functions of the processes (signal, random parameter matrices, and noises) involved in the observation model. The accuracy of the estimators is measured by their error covariance matrices, which allow us to analyze the estimator performance in a numerical simulation example that illustrates the feasibility of the proposed algorithms
H∞ filter design for vehicle tracking under delayed and noisy measurements
In many intelligent vehicles applications tracking plays an important role. This paper considers tracking of a vehicle under delayed and noisy measurements. For this purpose we design an H∞ optimal filter for linear systems with time delays in the state and output variables. By using the duality between filtering and control, the problem at hand is transformed to a robust controller design for systems with time delays. The skew Toeplitz method developed earlier for the robust control of infinite dimensional systems is used to solve the H∞ filtering problem. The results are illustrated with simulations and effects of the time delay on the tracking performance are demonstrated. ©2007 IEEE
Recent advances on filtering and control for nonlinear stochastic complex systems with incomplete information: A survey
This Article is provided by the Brunel Open Access Publishing Fund - Copyright @ 2012 Hindawi PublishingSome recent advances on the filtering and control problems for nonlinear stochastic complex systems with incomplete information are surveyed. The incomplete information under consideration mainly includes missing measurements, randomly varying sensor delays, signal quantization, sensor saturations, and signal sampling. With such incomplete information, the developments on various filtering and control issues are reviewed in great detail. In particular, the addressed nonlinear stochastic complex systems are so comprehensive that they include conventional nonlinear stochastic systems, different kinds of complex networks, and a large class of sensor networks. The corresponding filtering and control technologies for such nonlinear stochastic complex systems are then discussed. Subsequently, some latest results on the filtering and control problems for the complex systems with incomplete information are given. Finally, conclusions are drawn and several possible future research directions are pointed out. This work was supported in part by the National Natural Science Foundation of China under Grant nos. 61134009, 61104125, 61028008, 61174136, 60974030, and 61074129, the Qing Lan Project of Jiangsu Province of China, the Project sponsored by SRF for ROCS of SEM of China, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council EPSRC of the UK under Grant GR/S27658/01, the Royal Society of the UK, and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of Germany

The network-induced phenomena under consideration mainly include missing measurements, fading measurements, signal quantization, probabilistic sensor delays, sensor saturations, randomly occurring nonlinearities, and randomly occurring uncertainties. With respect to these network-induced phenomena, the developments on filtering and sliding mode design problems are systematically reviewed. In particular, concerning the network-induced phenomena, some recent results on the recursive filtering for time-varying nonlinear stochastic systems and sliding mode design for time-invariant nonlinear stochastic systems are given, respectively. Both time-invariant and time-varying cases are considered. For the time-invariant case, an algebraic Riccati matrix inequality approach is proposed to design a robust H∞ filter such that the filtering process remains asymptotically stable for all admissible uncertainties, and the transfer function from the disturbance inputs to error state outputs satisfies the prespecified H∞ norm upper bound constraint. We establish the conditions under which the desired robust H ∞ filters exist, and derive the explicit expression of these filters. For the time-varying case, we develop a differential Riccati inequality method to design the robust filters. A numerical example is provided to demonstrate the validity of the proposed design approac

The system under study involves stochastics, unknown state time-delay, parameter uncertainties, and unknown nonlinear disturbances, which are all often encountered in practice and the sources of instability. The aim of this problem is to design a linear, delayless, uncertainty-independent state estimator such that for all admissible uncertainties as well as nonlinear disturbances, the dynamics of the estimation error is stochastically exponentially stable in the mean square, independent of the time delay. Sufficient conditions are proposed to guarantee the existence of desired robust exponential filters, which are derived in terms of the solutions to algebraic Riccati inequalities. The developed theory is illustrated by numerical simulatio

Robust H∞ filtering for networked systems with multiple state delays

The official published version can be obtained from the link below - Copyright 2007 Taylor & Francis Ltd.In this paper, a new robust H∞ filter design problem is studied for a class of networked systems with multiple state-delays. Two kinds of incomplete measurements, namely, measurements with random delays and measurements with stochastic missing phenomenon, are simultaneously considered. Such incomplete measurements are induced by the limited bandwidth of communication networks, and are modelled as a linear function of a certain set of indicator functions that depend on the same stochastic variable. Attention is focused on the analysis and design problems of a full-order robust H∞ filter such that, for all admissible parameter uncertainties and all possible incomplete measurements, the filtering error dynamics is exponentially mean-square stable and a prescribed H∞ attenuation level is guaranteed. Some recently reported methodologies, such as delay-dependent and parameter-dependent stability analysis approaches, are employed to obtain less conservative results. Sufficient conditions, which are dependent on the occurrence probability of both the random sensor delay and missing measurement, are established for the existence of the desired filters in terms of certain linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). When these LMIs are feasible, the explicit expression of the desired filter can also be characterized. Finally, numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness and applicability of the proposed design method. This work was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China under Grant 60574084, the National 863 Project of China under Grant 2006AA04Z428, and the National 973 Program of China under Grant 2002CB312200

The delayed sensor measurement is assumed to be a linear function of a stochastic variable that satisfies the Bernoulli random binary distribution law. An upper bound for the actual covariance of the uncertain stochastic parameter system is derived and used for estimation variance constraints. Such an upper bound is then minimized over the filter parameters for all stochastic sensor delays and admissible deterministic uncertainties. It is shown that the desired filter can be obtained in terms of solutions to two discrete Riccati difference equations of a form suitable for recursive computation in online applications. An illustrative example is presented to show the applicability of the proposed method
