Link-State Based Decode-Forward Schemes for Two-way Relaying
In this paper, we analyze a composite decode-and-forward scheme for the
two-way relay channel with a direct link. During transmission, our scheme
combines both block Markov coding and an independent coding scheme similar to
network coding at the relay. The main contribution of this work is to examine
how link state impacts the allocation of power between these two distinct
techniques, which in turn governs the necessity of each technique in achieving
the largest transmission rate region. We analytically determine the link-state
regimes and associated relaying techniques. Our results illustrate an
interesting trend: when the user-to-relay link is marginally stronger than the
direct link, it is optimal to use only independent coding. In this case, the
relay need not use full power. However, for larger user-to-relay link gains,
the relay must supplement independent coding with block Markov coding to
achieve the largest rate region. These link-state regimes are important for the
application of two-way relaying in 5G networks, such as in D2D mode or
relay-aided transmission.Comment: To be presented at Globecom 2014, Emerging Technologies for 5G

Energy harvesting based two-way full-duplex relaying network over a Rician fading environment: performance analysis
Full-duplex transmission is a promising technique to enhance the capacity of communication systems. In this paper, we propose and investigate the system performance of an energy harvesting based two-way full-duplex relaying network over a Rician fading environment. Firstly, we analyse and demonstrate the analytical expressions of the achievable throughput, outage probability, optimal time switching factor, and symbol error ratio of the proposed system. In the second step, the effect of various parameters of the system on its performance is presented and investigated. In the final step, the analytical results are also demonstrated by Monte Carlo simulation. The numerical results proved that the analytical results and the simulation results agreed with each other.Web of Science68112311
Relay Selection with Network Coding in Two-Way Relay Channels
In this paper, we consider the design of joint network coding (NC)and relay
selection (RS) in two-way relay channels. In the proposed schemes, two users
first sequentially broadcast their respective information to all the relays. We
propose two RS schemes, a single relay selection with NC and a dual relay
selection with NC. For both schemes, the selected relay(s) perform NC on the
received signals sent from the two users and forward them to both users. The
proposed schemes are analyzed and the exact bit error rate (BER) expressions
are derived and verified through Monte Carlo simulations. It is shown that the
dual relay selection with NC outperforms other considered relay selection
schemes in two-way relay channels. The results also reveal that the proposed NC
relay selection schemes provide a selection gain compared to a NC scheme with
no relay selection, and a network coding gain relative to a conventional relay
selection scheme with no NC.Comment: 11 pages, 5 figure
On the Performance of the Relay-ARQ Networks
This paper investigates the performance of relay networks in the presence of
hybrid automatic repeat request (ARQ) feedback and adaptive power allocation.
The throughput and the outage probability of different hybrid ARQ protocols are
studied for independent and spatially-correlated fading channels. The results
are obtained for the cases where there is a sum power constraint on the source
and the relay or when each of the source and the relay are power-limited
individually. With adaptive power allocation, the results demonstrate the
efficiency of relay-ARQ techniques in different conditions.Comment: Accepted for publication in IEEE Trans. Veh. Technol. 201
Selective Combining for Hybrid Cooperative Networks
In this study, we consider the selective combining in hybrid cooperative
networks (SCHCNs scheme) with one source node, one destination node and
relay nodes. In the SCHCN scheme, each relay first adaptively chooses between
amplify-and-forward protocol and decode-and-forward protocol on a per frame
basis by examining the error-detecting code result, and () relays will be selected to forward their received signals to the
destination. We first develop a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) threshold-based
frame error rate (FER) approximation model. Then, the theoretical FER
expressions for the SCHCN scheme are derived by utilizing the proposed SNR
threshold-based FER approximation model. The analytical FER expressions are
validated through simulation results.Comment: 27 pages, 8 figures, IET Communications, 201
