    A Quality Systems Economic-Risk Design Theoretical Framework

    Quality systems, including control charts theory and sampling plans, have become essential tools to develop business processes. Since 1928, research has been conducted in developing the economic-risk designs for specific types of control charts or sampling plans. However, there has been no theoretical or applied research attempts to combine these related theories into a synthesized theoretical framework of quality systems economic-risk design. This research proposes to develop a theoretical framework of quality systems economic-risk design from qualitative research synthesis of the economic-risk design of sampling plan models and control charts models. This theoretical framework will be useful in guiding future research into economic risk quality systems design theory and application

    Applying the Bayesian Technique in Designing a Single Sampling Plan

     The Bayesian sampling plans for production inspection are considered a technique of sampling inspection techniques for determining the characteristics of the sampling plan based on the assumption that the rate of defectives is a random variable that varies from one production batch to the next, resulting in a probability distribution f(p) that could be determined based on experience and the available quality information available. As part of this study, the parameters of a single Bayesian sampling plan (n,c) were derived by using the Beta-Binomial distribution and compared with those of other single sampling plans. Researchers have identified (ALA company for soft drinks), which handles product quality control. 120 production batches were selected, and the size of the batch and the number of defective items were used to determine the proportion of defective items, given that the variable varies randomly from one production batch to the next. Bayesian and decision-making models can be implemented to create a single sampling inspection process that is close to the actual quality level. The researchers discovered that when the decision-making model was used, the sample size was minimal compared to other inspection plans, leading to a low inspection cost

    Development of Probabilistic Corrosion Growth Models with Applications in Integrity Management of Pipelines

    Metal-loss corrosion is a major threat to the structural integrity and safe operation of underground oil and gas pipelines worldwide. The reliability-based corrosion management program has been increasingly used in the pipeline industry, which typically includes three tasks, namely periodic high-resolution inline inspections (ILIs) to detect and size corrosion defects on a given pipeline, engineering critical assessment of the corrosion defects reported by the inspection tool and mitigation of defects. This study addresses the core involved in the reliability-based corrosion management program. First, the stochastic process in conjunction with the hierarchical Bayesian methodology is used to characterize the growth of defect depth using imperfect ILI data. The biases, random scattering errors as well as the correlations between the random scattering errors associated with the ILI tools are accounted for in the Bayesian inference. The Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) simulation techniques are employed to carry out the Bayesian updating and numerically evaluate the posterior distributions of the parameters in the growth model. Second, a simulation-based methodology is presented to evaluate the time-dependent system reliability of pressurized energy pipelines containing multiple active metal-loss corrosion defects using the developed growth models. Lastly, a probabilistic investigation is carried out to determine the optimal inspection interval for the newly-built onshore underground natural gas pipelines with respect to external metal-loss corrosion by considering the generation of corrosion defects over time and time-dependent growth of individual defects. The proposed methodology will facilitate the reliability-based corrosion management for corroding pipelines
