    Management in all business areas and organisational activities are the acts of getting people together to accomplish desired goals and objectives. Service is intangible, therefore, it is not too easy to define the theory application in varieties of service industries. Service Management usually incorporates automated systems along with skilled labour; it also provides service development. Due to enormous demand of service industries and management development, the book under the title "Management and Services" would create a milestone in management arena for all categories of readers including Business Administration, Engineering and Architecture. This book covers educational service development, service-oriented-architecture and case research analysis, including theory application in network security, GRID technology, integrated circuit application. The book is comprised of five chapters and has been divided into two parts. Part A contains chapters on service development in educational institutions and it depicts the application of supply chain management concept in service industries like tertiary educational institutions and multiple ways of web 2.0 applications transforming learning patterns and pathways. To understand the subject in a practical manner, Part B of this book consists of noteworthy case studies and research papers on management and services and represents theory application of Data mining, Fuzzy Cluster, Game theory, GRID Technology, simulation of Operational Amplifier and Current Controlled Conveyor II in network security, architecture, and integrated circuit application

    XATA 2006: XML: aplicações e tecnologias associadas

    Esta é a quarta conferência sobre XML e Tecnologias Associadas. Este evento tem-se tornado um ponto de encontro para quem se interessa pela temática e tem sido engraçado observar que os participantes gostam e tentam voltar nos anos posteriores. O grupo base de trabalho, a comissão científica, também tem vindo a ser alargada e todos os que têm colaborado com vontade e com uma qualidade crescente ano após ano. Pela quarta vez estou a redigir este prefácio e não consigo evitar a redacção de uma descrição da evolução da XATA ao longo destes quatro anos: 2003 Nesta "reunião", houve uma vintena de trabalhos submetidos, maioritariamente da autoria ou da supervisão dos membros que integravam a comissão organizadora o que não envalidou uma grande participação e acesas discussões. 2004 Houve uma participação mais forte da comunidade portuguesa mas ainda com números pouco expressivos. Nesta altura, apostou-se também numa forte participação da indústria, o que se traduziu num conjunto apreciável de apresentações de casos reais. Foi introduzido o processo de revisão formal dos trabalhos submetidos. 2005 Houve uma forte adesão nacional e internacional (Espanha e Brasil, o que para um evento onde se pretende privilegiar a língua portuguesa é ainda mais significativo). A distribuição geográfica em Portugal também aumentou, havendo mais instituições participantes. Automatizaram-se várias tarefas como o processo de submissão e de revisão de artigos. 2006 Nesta edição actual, e contrariamente ao que acontece no plano nacional, houve um crescimento significativo. Em todas as edições, tem sido objectivo da comissão organizadora, previlegiar a produção científica e dar voz ao máximo número de participantes. Nesse sentido, este ano, não haverá oradores convidados, sendo o programa integralmente preenchido com as apresentações dos trabalhos seleccionados. Apesar disso ainda houve uma taxa significativa de rejeições, principalmente devido ao elevado número de submissões. Foi introduzido também, nesta edição, um dia de tutoriais com o objectivo de fornecer competências mínimas a quem quer começar a trabalhar na área e também poder assistir de uma forma mais informada à conferência. Se analisarmos as temáticas, abordadas nas quatro conferências, percebemos que também aqui há uma evolução no sentido de uma maior maturidade. Enquanto que no primeiro encontro, os trabalhos abordavam problemas emergentes na utilização da tecnologia, no segundo encontro a grande incidência foi nos Web Services, uma nova tecnologia baseada em XML, no terceiro, a maior incidência foi na construção de repositórios, motores de pesquisa e linguagens de interrogação, nesta quarta edição há uma distribuição quase homogénea por todas as áreas temáticas tendo mesmo aparecido trabalhos que abordam aspectos científicos e tecnológicos da base da tecnologia XML. Desta forma, podemos concluir que a tecnologia sob o ponto de vista de utilização e aplicação está dominada e que a comunidade portuguesa começa a fazer contributos para a ciência de base.Microsoft

    Geospatial Computing: Architectures and Algorithms for Mapping Applications

    Beginning with the MapTube website (1), which was launched in 2007 for crowd-sourcing maps, this project investigates approaches to exploratory Geographic Information Systems (GIS) using web-based mapping, or ‘web GIS’. Users can log in to upload their own maps and overlay different layers of GIS data sets. This work looks into the theory behind how web-based mapping systems function and whether their performance can be modelled and predicted. One of the important questions when dealing with different geospatial data sets is how they relate to one another. Internet data stores provide another source of information, which can be exploited if more generic geospatial data mining techniques are developed. The identification of similarities between thousands of maps is a GIS technique that can give structure to the overall fabric of the data, once the problems of scalability and comparisons between different geographies are solved. After running MapTube for nine years to crowd-source data, this would mark a natural progression from visualisation of individual maps to wider questions about what additional knowledge can be discovered from the data collected. In the new ‘data science’ age, the introduction of real-time data sets introduces a new challenge for web-based mapping applications. The mapping of real-time geospatial systems is technically challenging, but has the potential to show inter-dependencies as they emerge in the time series. Combined geospatial and temporal data mining of realtime sources can provide archives of transport and environmental data from which to accurately model the systems under investigation. By using techniques from machine learning, the models can be built directly from the real-time data stream. These models can then be used for analysis and experimentation, being derived directly from city data. This then leads to an analysis of the behaviours of the interacting systems.     This volume holds the papers from the 18th annual GIS Research UK (GISRUK). This year the conference, hosted at University College London (UCL), from Wednesday 14 to Friday 16 April 2010. The conference covered the areas of core geographic information science research as well as applications domains such as crime and health and technological developments in LBS and the geoweb. UCL’s research mission as a global university is based around a series of Grand Challenges that affect us all, and these were accommodated in GISRUK 2010. The overarching theme this year was “Global Challenges”, with specific focus on the following themes: * Crime and Place * Environmental Change * Intelligent Transport * Public Health and Epidemiology * Simulation and Modelling * London as a global city * The geoweb and neo-geography * Open GIS and Volunteered Geographic Information * Human-Computer Interaction and GIS Traditionally, GISRUK has provided a platform for early career researchers as well as those with a significant track record of achievement in the area. As such, the conference provides a welcome blend of innovative thinking and mature reflection. GISRUK is the premier academic GIS conference in the UK and we are keen to maintain its outstanding record of achievement in developing GIS in the UK and beyond

    Service-Interoperabilität für naturwissenschaftliche Anwendungen : Identifikation und Anpassung von komponentenbasierten Service-Mediatoren

    In der Softwareentwicklung wird die Serviceorientierung als neues Realisierungsparadigma propagiert. Sie erlaubt lose gekoppelte Services bedarfsbezogen in Workflows zu aggregieren. Hierbei ist die Überbrückung der Heterogenität dieser Services ein anerkanntes Problem von hohem wirtschaftlichem Interesse. Es besteht der Bedarf die Service-Interoperabilität weitestgehend automatisch herzustellen. In dieser Arbeit wurde ein Konzept für Service-Mediatoren entwickelt, die über eine offene und erweiterbare, software-unterstützte Prozedur (semi-)automatisch identifiziert und problembezogen in einen Workflow eingebettet werden können. Service-Mediatoren über\-brücken die Heterogenität der einzelnen Services und erzielen so die geforderte Service-Interoperabilität. Die offene Architektur und Entwicklung dieser Prozedur erlaubt erstmals die Vorteile gängiger Ansätze zu integrieren. Um einmal entwickelte Service-Mediatoren in verschiedenen Workflows einsetzen und wiederverwenden zu können, bedarf es ihrer gezielten Identifikation und Anpassung. Leider stellt gerade die Suche nach benötigten Service-Mediatoren ein besonders schwieriges Problem da. Dies gilt insbesondere, wenn erst mehrere geeignet verknüpfte Service-Mediatoren zusammen die Service-Interoperabilität erreichen und bereits bei der Suche diese Kombination identifiziert werden muss. Die Aspekte der Suche und der Anpassung erfordern eine Beschreibungssprache, die die Fähig\-keiten eines Service-Mediators sowohl syntaktisch als auch semantisch beschreiben kann. Mit der Mediator Profile Language (MPL) wurde eine derartige, auf OWL basierende Beschreibungssprache entwickelt, die die Grundlage des entworfenen Komponentenmodells der Service-Mediatoren bildet. Sie erlaubt u. a. die Beschreibung der Komposition mehrerer Service-Mediatoren, sowie deren Konfiguration über zustandsbehaftete Eigenschaftsfelder. Die semantische Annotation eines Service-Mediators geschieht hierbei über Konzepte einer Domänenontologie. Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wurden Matchmaking-Algorithmen zur Suche entwickelt, die eine Identifikation adäquater Service-Mediatoren und deren Komposition erlauben. Durch den Einsatz von Ontologien zur semantischen Annotation der Service-Mediatoren kann die Suche auch über rein syntaktische Merkmale hinaus durchgeführt werden. Trotz der den Servicebeschreibungen innewohnenden Unschärfe wurde ein Verfahren realisiert, welches die Servicebeschreibungen auf MPL abbildet und dabei eine automatische Annotation durch die Konzepte einer Ontologie vornimmt. Die Matchmaking-Algorithmen wurden auch auf das Problem der semantischen Suche nach Service-Operationen übertragen. Die entwickelten ontologiebasierten Matchmaking-Verfahren liefern im Vergleich zu Standard-IR-Techniken signifikant bessere Ergebnisse, wie durch entsprechende Benchmarks mit anschließender Messung von Precision und Recall gezeigt werden konnte.Service Interoperability for Science Applications - Identification and Adaptation of Component-Based Service MediatorsService-orientation is a new software paradigm for building distributed, component-based software. It allows the aggregation of loosely coupled services into value-added workflows. In this context the gap between heterogeneous services is an accepted problem with particular commercial interest. Thus, there is the need to create service interoperability semi-automatically. In this thesis the concept of service mediators is developed. Through a software-aided procedure service mediators are identified, adapted and integrated into workflows in order to bridge the heterogeneity of different services. Service mediators are software components realizing for instance transformation facilities. The open architecture of the developed procedure allows the integration of benefits from current approaches. The discovery of relevant service mediators is a difficult problem, especially if several service mediators have to be combined adequately to reach the desired service interoperability. One major challenge is that such compositions have to be identified during discovery. The discovery and adaptation phases of the software-aided procedure require a suitable description of the capabilities of service mediators. Such a description should contain both syntactical and semantical information. The OWL-based Mediator Profile Language (MPL) addresses these issues. MPL permits among other things the description of compositions of service mediators as well as their customization by stateful properties. Semantical information is assigned by concepts of a domain ontology. In this dissertation different matchmaking algorithms were developed supporting the user in identifying relevant service mediators as well as new compositions of service mediators. Requirements for service mediators are derived from service descriptions and represented by query profiles in MPL. Even though the service descriptions are fuzzy the query generation algorithm automatically creates semantical annotations by mapping syntactical information to concepts of the domain ontology. These annotations are also stored within the query profile. Due to the application of the domain ontology the discovery process enables not only syntactical matchmaking but also semantical matchmaking. Furthermore, the matchmaking algorithms were transferred to the problem of discovering service operations. By measuring precision and recall it could be shown that ontology-based matchmaking is advantageously over standard information retrieval techniques
