A case study of green building in Malaysia: cost saving analysis

    Get PDF
The building sector consumes about forty percent of world energy, making energy efficiency in existing buildings an important issue. This study has been undertaken to investigate energy consumption of a building that has been redesigned to incorporate energy efficient features. It was found that the introduction of energy efficient features has helped to achieve savings up to 46% of the total spent on energy particularly based on electricity bills

A mathematical model development for the lateral collapse of octagonal tubes

    Get PDF
. Many researches has been done on the lateral collapse of tube. However, the previous researches only focus on cylindrical and square tubes. Then a research has been done discovering the collapse behaviour of hexagonal tube and the mathematic model of the deformation behaviour had been developed [8]. The purpose of this research is to study the lateral collapse behaviour of symmetric octagonal tubes and hence to develop a mathematical model of the collapse behaviour of these tubes. For that, a predictive mathematical model was developed and a finite element analysis procedure was conducted for the lateral collapse behaviour of symmetric octagonal tubes. Lastly, the mathematical model was verified by using the finite element analysis simulation results. It was discovered that these tubes performed different deformation behaviour than the cylindrical tube. Symmetric octagonal tubes perform 2 phases of elastic - plastic deformation behaviour patterns. The mathematical model had managed to show the fundamental of the deformation behaviour of octagonal tubes. However, further studies need to be conducted in order to further improve on the proposed mathematical mode

Development of a software application for machine tool reconfiguration using a knowledge-based engineering system approach

The automation processes industry has become increasingly expensive, which is why some small and medium sized enterprises are incapable of buying machine tools with automatic systems. This means that their processes are manual in many cases, and as a result they often have to rework their developed products due to the lack of precision and efficiency in their production processes. Considering that current manufacturing systems with variable machining and turning centers are gradually replacing dedicated systems for medium lot size production, the production systems' basic element, the machine tool, must be capable of working at high speeds with precision, and it must be reconfigurable. These systems must also be compatible and convertible in order to create economic benefits for customers. This article describes a specific software architecture designed to record all the data, information and knowledge concerning manufacturing systems. The software allows for the creation of a new knowledge database and works with it in the reconfiguration of machine tools depending on the rules, requirements and parameters needed to effectively modify production processes or products.Hincapie, M.; Guemes, D.; Contero González, MR.; Ramirez, M.; Diaz, C. International audienceCNC feature-based programming with STEP-NC standard extends the collaborative model of manufacturing data exchange all along the numerical data chain. This paper considers the mutations related to this approach from the manufacturing system level to the industrial enterprise as a whole. The eXtended Manufacturing Integrated System concept is introduced to fill in the gap of the current manufacturing data exchange bottleneck. It is composed of eXtended CAD and eXtended CNC systems to link the CAD model to the real machined part through the Manufacturing Information Pipeline. The contributions associated with these concepts are demonstrated through a validation platform implemented on industrial CNC manufacturing equipments

Modular industrial equipment in cyber-physical production system: Architecture and integration

    Get PDF
The design of numerical control systems for industrial machinery is a difficult task, especially when you create universal modular equipment with computer numerical control (CNC). This article presents a modular approach to the design of such systems. The modular control system under consideration is based on a multi-agent network, in which each entity (module) acts as an integral and indivisible part of the object as well as the enlarged structure. This approach allows one to combine the advantages of classical hierarchical control systems with the flexibility and reliability of decentralized multi-agent networks and also to carry out seamless integration of equipment built on the basis of this architecture into a cyber-physical production system (CPPS). The proposed architecture is implemented in the control system of a universal industrial platform. As an example, the apparatus for selective laser curing of a photopolymer to the surfaces of arbitrary shapes is represented. The general structure of the installation determined by the basic hardware and software modules and the network communication protocol are described

New Perspectives in Manufacturing: An Assessment for an Advanced Reconfigurable Machining System

Traditionally manufacturing cycle involves several production processes that are carried out according to the required technologies tacking into account the constraint due to the production capacity provided by machine tools and the customers' orders time schedule In this paper, a new modular, reconfigurable and scalable machining centre is presented. The resulting system is characterized by the possibility of modifying the machining capacity as well as exchanging the role between workpieces and machining/operating resources. This augmented flexibility creates new opportunities for efficient manufacturing; however, the increased system complexity demands a new approach for the jobs scheduling and machining control. An architecture based on agents modelling is proposed and discussed
