    Get PDF

In: conference proceedings, edulearn 2010, Barcelona 5.-7.7.2010. In order to design and tutor online and blended learning courses, trainers and teachers need to obtain appropriate qualification. In this paper different competency models for online teaching which developed in Germany 2005 – 2008 will be addressed as well as different settings to qualify teachers and trainers appropriately. Finally the results of an evaluation of two different training settings will be presented in order to compare an in house versus a transorganisational training program

Wikis in elearning and student projects

The paper presents a study which was based on the hypothesis that wikis that are initiated bottom up by students might be used more deliberately than wikis which are introduced top down by teachers. Therefore it examines the specific effects observed in nine different wiki projects at the university of Frankfurt ranging from student wiki projects up to wikis used in seminars and as information tool for institutions

(DIPF/ Orig.

Digital fluency for Open Educational Resources: The active role of libraries in establishing OER in Germany\u27s higher education sector

    Get PDF
Free access to education, information and knowledge is a declared educational policy goal that all state universities in Germany strive to achieve. Open Educational Resources (OER) make an important contribution to this, as their use is open to all teaching staff and learners. The development, use and distribution of OER is currently focused by several government funding grants, but still has not fully arrived in the country’s educational practices. Reasons for this include the fact that dealing with OER requires sound knowledge much of which relates to copyright and licensing law. In addition, for the technical design and provision of extensive OER (e.g. courses, self-learning modules), competencies for dealing with (complex) digital systems are particularly necessary. In order to develop competencies for OER and thus promote their establishment, incentive and support measures are of particular relevance. While legal and didactic topics are focused on in a wide range of continuing education programs from established institutions, the technical design of OER (e.g., using Markdown or Git) is often not taken into account. This is where libraries come in: Since they are key actors in the field of Open Science and - as infrastructure institutions - possess a high level of technical expertise, they also play a crucial role in supporting the development of digital fluency for the technical creation of OER. The paper states the current status of the implementation of OER in the Germany higher education sector. In particular, the role of libraries as multipliers for a culture of open access to education and knowledge is taken into focus. As a practical example to support competence development for using OER - with special regard to their technical creation - a digital training concept of the TIB (Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology | University Library) in Hanover, Germany is presented and reflected upon

    Get PDF
Our model for a new course design in the field of Higher Education transfers the widely discussed concept of the Flipped Classroom to the strands of staff development and especially to university teacher training. We will show how lecturers or professors can benefit from the positive effects of an up-to-date training including digital interactive learning settings. Moreover, our model will promote more intensive participation and exchange among the participants along the lines of three sequential phases. The article describes the state of research and offers an insight into the conceptual design of a flipped classroom model for teacher training in the field of higher education

Hochschulbildung und Hochschuldidaktik - (K)ein Thema in der Erziehungswissenschaft? Eine historische Spurensuche

    Get PDF

What is it like to teach philosophy online? Experiences and satisfaction of lecturers at german universities in the first “Corona semester”

    Get PDF
In an online survey we conducted subsequently to the first so-called “Corona semester” we asked university lecturers in philosophy at German universities to share their experiences with digital teaching. In the questionnaire, the respondents were asked questions concerning the use of digital media in a specific course they taught and how satisfied they were with their course. We also asked them about the advantages and disadvantages of teaching philosophy online and about their assessment of whether the use of digital media is suitable for teaching philosophy. In our article, we present some of our findings based on the data and statements of 87 respondents. We identify the main factors influencing satisfaction with online teaching and point out some assumptions underlying the widespread fear that core elements might get lost by teaching philosophy online. In a second step we will discuss our findings and we will also derive recommendations from our results that may help to overcome key difficulties of teaching philosophy online
