    This demo abstract describes the SmartWeb Ontology-based Information Extraction System (SOBIE). A key feature of SOBIE is that all information is extracted and stored with respect to the SmartWeb ontology. In this way, other components of the systems, which use the same ontology, can access this information in a straightforward way. We will show how information extracted by SOBIE is visualized within its original context, thus enhancing the browsing experience of the end user

    Ontology-based data management aims at managing data through the lens of an ontology, that is, a conceptual representation of the domain of interest in the underlying information system. This new paradigm provides several interesting features, many of which have already been proved effective in managing complex information systems. This article introduces the notion of ontology-based data management, illustrating the main ideas underlying the paradigm, and pointing out the importance of knowledge representation and automated reasoning for addressing the technical challenges it introduces

    The paper presents an ontology-based knowledge management system developed for a Romanian university. The university used a classic Management Information System (MIS), which was the starting point for developing the knowledge management system. The developed knowledge management system has a general ontology, containing terms which are valid for a public institution, and specific ontology for two process categories, didactic and research process.     Ontology-based data access with databases: a short course

    Ontology-based data access (OBDA) is regarded as a key ingredient of the new generation of information systems. In the OBDA paradigm, an ontology defines a high-level global schema of (already existing) data sources and provides a vocabulary for user queries. An OBDA system rewrites such queries and ontologies into the vocabulary of the data sources and then delegates the actual query evaluation to a suitable query answering system such as a relational database management system or a datalog engine. In this chapter, we mainly focus on OBDA with the ontology language OWL 2QL, one of the three profiles of the W3C standard Web Ontology Language OWL 2, and relational databases, although other possible languages will also be discussed. Adapting business data and management information to support specific user actions in context is an ongoing topic of research. Approaches typically focus on providing mechanisms to improve specific information access and transcoding but not on how the information can be accessed in a mobile, dynamic and ad-hoc manner. Although web ontology has been used to facilitate the loading of data warehouses, less research has been carried out on ontology based mobile reporting. This paper explores how business data can be modeled and accessed using the web ontology language and then re-used to provide the invisibility of pervasive access; uncovering more effective architectural models for adaptive information system strategies of this type. This exploratory work is guided in part by a vision of business intelligence that is highly distributed, mobile and fluid, adapting to sensory understanding of the underlying environment in which it operates. A proof-of concept mobile and ambient data access architecture is developed in order to further test the viability of such an approach.     AbstractHuman body systems are interconnected and dependent and they can’t function separately. Diseases which affect any of these systems will affect other systems as well. In existing disease diagnosis systems, diseases were classified based on different dimensions such as cause, treatment, types of diseases, etc. On the other hand the existing disease information systems are for pest control management and they cannot be extended to human diseases. In existing systems traditional database approach was used. A database provides queried information and the retrieval method is not efficient in the case of biomedical systems. The proposed system will classify the diseases into the ‘system-wise diseases’ instead of many dimensions. The system needs careful handling of disease information. A disease information system would be appreciable instead of databases since the information systems may provide more precise and descriptive information. Therefore it is required to develop a disease information system by providing more relevant information as per the user query. The ontology based disease information system is being build and semantic based rules are designed to respond to the corresponding user query. The proposed information system is mainly focusing on improving the query results and also supports ease of use to the user

The system is capable of manipulative ontology instances from the information repositories and information sources.
