    Knowledge formalization in experience feedback processes : an ontology-based approach

    Because of the current trend of integration and interoperability of industrial systems, their size and complexity continue to grow making it more difficult to analyze, to understand and to solve the problems that happen in their organizations. Continuous improvement methodologies are powerful tools in order to understand and to solve problems, to control the effects of changes and finally to capitalize knowledge about changes and improvements. These tools involve suitably represent knowledge relating to the concerned system. Consequently, knowledge management (KM) is an increasingly important source of competitive advantage for organizations. Particularly, the capitalization and sharing of knowledge resulting from experience feedback are elements which play an essential role in the continuous improvement of industrial activities. In this paper, the contribution deals with semantic interoperability and relates to the structuring and the formalization of an experience feedback (EF) process aiming at transforming information or understanding gained by experience into explicit knowledge. The reuse of such knowledge has proved to have significant impact on achieving themissions of companies. However, the means of describing the knowledge objects of an experience generally remain informal. Based on an experience feedback process model and conceptual graphs, this paper takes domain ontology as a framework for the clarification of explicit knowledge and know-how, the aim of which is to get lessons learned descriptions that are significant, correct and applicable

    An ontology co-design method for the co-creation of a continuous care ontology

    Ontology engineering methodologies tend to emphasize the role of the knowledge engineer or require a very active role of domain experts. In this paper, a participatory ontology engineering method is described that holds the middle ground between these two 'extremes'. After thorough ethnographic research, an interdisciplinary group of domain experts closely interacted with ontology engineers and social scientists in a series of workshops. Once a preliminary ontology was developed, a dynamic care request system was built using the ontology. Additional workshops were organized involving a broader group of domain experts to ensure the applicability of the ontology across continuous care settings. The proposed method successfully actively engaged domain experts in constructing the ontology, without overburdening them. Its applicability is illustrated by presenting the co-created continuous care ontology. The lessons learned during the design and execution of the approach are also presented

    ICT INDUSTRY INTEGRATED CURRICULA: TOWARDS AN ONTOLOGY BASED COMPETENCY MODEL

    As technology advances rapidly, the ever changing industry needs for skills and competencies keeps changing in efforts to seize the nearest competitive advantage. This creates a great burden on higher education institutions to accurately be able to supply what the industry currently demands. Understanding and analyzing the gap between the supplied and demanded competencies has been always a topic of debate and research between both domains of knowledge. In this thesis, we have proposed developing an ontology that would help in identifying the gap between the employee and occupation competencies. The objective is to be able to generate the gap analysis utilizing the ontology and provide users with information that would help them in gaining more knowledge about the domain and taking informative decisions based on facts. Two separate ontologies representing classes and object properties of the Education and the Industry domain were successfully modeled. The validation shows that the ontology correctly classifies the employees as Fit or Un-fit to the set of occupations they applied for according to the competency gap analysis.     Current trends on ICT technologies for enterprise information s²ystems

    The proposed paper discusses the current trends on ICT technologies for Enterprise Information Systems. The paper starts by defining four big challenges of the next generation of information systems: (1) Data Value Chain Management; (2) Context Awareness; (3) Interaction and Visualization; and (4) Human Learning. The major contributions towards the next generation of information systems are elaborated based on the work and experience of the authors and their teams. This includes: (1) Ontology based solutions for semantic interoperability; (2) Context aware infrastructures; (3) Product Avatar based interactions; and (4) Human learning.
