On trees with a maximum proper partial 0-1 coloring containing a maximum matching
I prove that in a tree in which the distance between any two endpoints is
even, there is a maximum proper partial 0-1 coloring such that the edges
colored by 0 form a maximum matching.Comment: 4 page
Some results on the palette index of graphs
Given a proper edge coloring of a graph , we define the palette
of a vertex as the set of all colors appearing
on edges incident with . The palette index of is the
minimum number of distinct palettes occurring in a proper edge coloring of .
In this paper we give various upper and lower bounds on the palette index of
in terms of the vertex degrees of , particularly for the case when
is a bipartite graph with small vertex degrees. Some of our results concern
-biregular graphs; that is, bipartite graphs where all vertices in one
part have degree and all vertices in the other part have degree . We
conjecture that if is -biregular, then , and we prove that this conjecture holds for several families of
-biregular graphs. Additionally, we characterize the graphs whose
palette index equals the number of vertices
A general framework for coloring problems: old results, new results, and open problems
In this survey paper we present a general framework for coloring problems that was introduced in a joint paper which the author presented at WG2003. We show how a number of different types of coloring problems, most of which have been motivated from frequency assignment, fit into this framework. We give a survey of the existing results, mainly based on and strongly biased by joint work of the author with several different groups of coauthors, include some new results, and discuss several open problems for each of the variants
