Facebook and print magazines: A Study on the benefits of single- and cross-media advertising

    Get PDF
Research regarding the utilization of Facebook as a marketing communication tool and effectiveness of cross-media advertising are vital as Facebook continues its eminent growth as a communication phenomenon and marketers look for enhanced ways to increase ad effectiveness. Drawing on extant website research (Schlosser & Kanfer, 1996; Kanso, Nelson & LeBlanc, 2005), this study examines the extent that marketers leverage the potential benefits of Facebook (data collection, mass collaboration, relationship and brand management, networking, global accessibility) and extent of integration between Facebook and print magazine ads. Content analysis results suggest that marketers are not equally and fully utilizing all benefits. Findings also reveal correlation between product category and utilization of benefit and lack of integration between print ads and Facebook

Plant responses to abiotic stress: the chromatin context of transcriptional regulation

    Get PDF
The ability of plants to cope with abiotic environmental stresses such as drought, salinity, heat, cold or flooding relies on flexible mechanisms for re-programming gene expression. Over recent years it has become apparent that transcriptional regulation needs to be understood within its structural context. Chromatin, the assembly of DNA with histone proteins, generates a local higher-order structure that impacts on the accessibility and effectiveness of the transcriptional machinery, as well as providing a hub for multiple protein interactions. Several studies have shown that chromatin features such as histone variants and post-translational histone modifications are altered by environmental stress, and they could therefore be primary stress targets that initiate transcriptional stress responses. Alternatively, they could act downstream of stress-induced transcription factors as an integral part of transcriptional activity. A few experimental studies have addressed this ‘chicken-and-egg’ problem in plants and other systems, but to date the causal relationship between dynamic chromatin changes and transcriptional responses under stress is still unclear. In this review we have collated the existing information on concurrent epigenetic and transcriptional responses of plants to abiotic stress, and we have assessed the evidence using a simple theoretical framework of causality scenarios

Impact of Online Education on Student Success Outcomes and Institutional Effectiveness: Study of Florida State University System

Online education has been around for several decades, but only recently has there been a boom in it integration into the public higher education sector on a larger scale. It proved instrumental to student education continuity and progression toward graduation during the COVID-19 health crisis and campus closures. Technological advances produce higher quality online courses that keep students engaged and allow for greater flexibility and accessibility, evident by its dramatic enrollment increase that outpaced the total enrollment at postsecondary institutions. Nine public universities in the State University System of Florida are analyzed to determine if greater enrollment in undergraduate online courses improves students\u27 success outcomes and institutional effectiveness. A standard measure of these outcomes is graduation, retention, and time-to-degree rates. They are frequently used by policymakers, academic leaders, and students to evaluate institutional performance and effectiveness at meeting students\u27 academic needs. Florida also ties its higher education funding model to these outcome measures to allocate funds integral to the institutional operation. A one-way ANOVA and panel data analysis is performed to evaluate the relationship between student enrollment in online courses and its impact on graduation, retention, and time to degree rates. The results show evidence that larger enrollment in at least some online courses positively affects graduation and retention while reducing the time to degree. These findings support that online education has more to offer than flexibility and accessibility and can improve student success outcomes and institutional effectiveness

The Relationship Between Healthcare and Education and Their Impact Global Health

There is often a direct correlation between the access , affordability, and quality of healthcare and quality of education , which can be seen on an international scale. Education, defined both in terms of formal classroom education , as well as patient education conducted by physicians and hea lth care providers, consistent ly relates to the accessibility and qu ality of healthcare globally . The relationship between healthcare and education often results a cycle in which individuals experience little to no accessibility and affo rdability to either of these basic rights . Further, in cases in which one system is available, the other is significantly deficient in the sense that an individual cannot perform fully in school if he or she is in poor health. In such cases, a health concern may be left improperly treated due to a lack of education. This correlation warrants serious ethical considerations concern ing both insufficient healthcare provisions and inadequate education of the patient. T his project included an evaluatio n of three countries : Kenya, India, and the United States focusing on the ways in which effectiveness of education and he althcare relate to one another

The Relationship Between Information and Communication Technologies and Country Governance: An Exploratory Study

    Get PDF
In this exploratory study we investigate the relationship between information and communication technologies (ICTs) and country-level governance. We include in our framework the five factors of ICTs: access, quality, affordability, applications and institutional efficiency & sustainability. Governance indicators include voice and accountability, political stability and absence of violence, government effectiveness, regulatory quality, rule of law, and control of corruption. Using secondary data on ICTs and governance indicators for countries from the World Bank, and controlling for the wealth effect, our main multivariate result indicates that ICTs—with the exception of the institutional efficiency and sustainability factor—have a positive relationship with governance indicators. ICTs therefore, have the potential to promote good governance. We also find that accessibility is the most important ICTs’ factor to enhance governance. Our results are useful in shaping policy decisions involving the nature and extent of investment in ICT infrastructure at the country level

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study is to examine the role of technology and organizations change in service delivery to meet customer expectations in the movie rental industry. This research provides a review of relevant literature and presents a theoretical framework of the relationship between technology accessibility, customer technology preference, organizations change in service delivery, organization effectiveness in service delivery, and customer technology adoption. The following research question is addressed in the study: What is the role of technology as it relates to service delivery in the movie rental industry? The study offers four hypotheses derived from the theoretical framework and the literature. Survey data collected from customers is analyzed using exploratory data analysis. Four hypotheses were tested using regression models. All four hypotheses were supported based on the items included in the regression models. This study fills a gap in the literature on service delivery and technology changes. It differs from other studies by focusing on the customers' perspective of technology and the organizations effectiveness in service delivery

The Pursuit of Happiness: Texting and Romantic Relationships

In this paper, I will be discussing how texting is a flawed medium when acting as a main form of communication in a romantic relationship. This paper is based on the theoretical framework of Dacher Keltner’s second principle of power and James A. Mackin Jr.’s takes on communication ethics. To understand the effectiveness and ethics behind these frameworks, I utilized scholarly articles and conducted a survey of over 100 participants to support my findings. These findings were categorized into strengths and limitations as they pertained to the overall happiness impacted from texting in romantic relationships. The strengths and limitations listed in this paper include: texts of affirmation, consideration and informative texts, interpretation of tone, conflict resolution, and accessibility between partners. After further analysis of these categories, I have concluded that texting in romantic relationships should be utilized with caution due to the complexity of romantic relationships. While living in a technologically advanced society, it is easy to overlook the potential harms that texting has in our romantic relationships. The sensitivity that exists between texting and romantic relationships has led me to conclude that texting provides ethical concerns when discussing the promotion of happiness in a romantic relationship

    Get PDF
Received the best full paper award in the performance management trackAdopting the human capital theory as a lens, this study investigates the impact of managerial training on the performance of the managers of Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) in Ghana. The study uses primary data collected from 506 MSEs who are clients of Financial Non- Governmental Organisations (FNGOs) in the Volta Region of Ghana. Managerial Training (MT) and Performance has been measured on a five-point Likert scale anchored by strongly disagree (1) and strongly agree (5). MT has been measured using 4 main constructs namely, training content, training efficiency, training frequency and training accessibility whilst performance was measured using 12 items. The study controlled for business age, industry category, manager’s educational level and gender. The study shows that managerial training content, efficiency, frequency, and accessibility are statistically significant in explaining performance among MSE managers in Ghana. Secondly, the study also shows that industry category, managers educational level, and business age influences the performance of managers. However, gender is statistically insignificant and does not have any impact on the performance of MSE managers in Ghana. The study, therefore, argues for the delivery of managerial training which is content-rich, efficient, frequent and accessible to MSE managers to develop their managerial capabilities (Fatoki, 2011; Newman et al., 2014)
