    Multi-View Power Modeling based on UML MARTE and SysML

    The development of SoC involves different activities, usually driven by specialists. These specialists use specific languages and tools to manipulate their specific concepts. The problem is that the multiple views of the system are split into different tools with redundant information. It makes it difficult to ensure consistency as well as to change from one tool to another. We propose a multi-view model where each view represents the specialist concepts in a tool-agnostic manner. The model can be kept consistent by using explicit associations instead of redundancy and tool transformation can be performed to analysis-specific tools. The approach is based on UML and two of its extensions: MARTE and SysML. It is illustrated by adding specific views to specify power management techniques. The resulting model is then transformed into a tool-specific model; \ie a model for Docea Aceplorer, a power analysis tool

    Modeling and Simulation Methodologies for Digital Twin in Industry 4.0

    The concept of Industry 4.0 represents an innovative vision of what will be the factory of the future. The principles of this new paradigm are based on interoperability and data exchange between dierent industrial equipment. In this context, Cyber- Physical Systems (CPSs) cover one of the main roles in this revolution. The combination of models and the integration of real data coming from the field allows to obtain the virtual copy of the real plant, also called Digital Twin. The entire factory can be seen as a set of CPSs and the resulting system is also called Cyber-Physical Production System (CPPS). This CPPS represents the Digital Twin of the factory with which it would be possible analyze the real factory. The interoperability between the real industrial equipment and the Digital Twin allows to make predictions concerning the quality of the products. More in details, these analyses are related to the variability of production quality, prediction of the maintenance cycle, the accurate estimation of energy consumption and other extra-functional properties of the system. Several tools [2] allow to model a production line, considering dierent aspects of the factory (i.e. geometrical properties, the information flows etc.) However, these simulators do not provide natively any solution for the design integration of CPSs, making impossible to have precise analysis concerning the real factory. Furthermore, for the best of our knowledge, there are no solution regarding a clear integration of data coming from real equipment into CPS models that composes the entire production line. In this context, the goal of this thesis aims to define an unified methodology to design and simulate the Digital Twin of a plant, integrating data coming from real equipment. In detail, the presented methodologies focus mainly on: integration of heterogeneous models in production line simulators; Integration of heterogeneous models with ad-hoc simulation strategies; Multi-level simulation approach of CPS and integration of real data coming from sensors into models. All the presented contributions produce an environment that allows to perform simulation of the plant based not only on synthetic data, but also on real data coming from equipments

    Model Driven Engineering Benefits for High Level Synthesis

    This report presents the benefits of using the Model Driven Engineering (MDE) methodology to solve major difficulties encountered by usual high level synthesis (HLS) flows. These advantages are highlighted in a design space exploration environment we propose. MDE is the skeleton of our HLS flow dedicated to intensive signal processing to demonstrate the expected benefits of these software technologies extended to hardware design. Both users and designers of the design flow benefit from the MDE methodology, participating to a concrete and effective advancement in the high level synthesis research domain. The flow is automatized from UML specifications to VHDL code generation and has been successfully evaluated for the conception of a video processing application

    A generic debug interface for IP-integrated assertions

    Der Entwurf von Hardware/Software Systemen ist auf eine solide Verifikationsmethodik angewiesen, die den ganzen Design Flow durchzieht. Viele Konzepte haben eine Erhöhung des Abstraktionsniveaus bei der Entwurfseingabe gemeinsam, wobei der modell-basierte Hardware-Entwurf einen vielversprechenden und sich verbreitenenden Ansatz darstellt. Assertion basierte Verifikation ermöglicht dem Entwickler die Spezifikation von Eigenschaften des Entwurfes und die Aufdeckung von Fällen, in denen diese verletzt werden. Während Assertions in Entwurfs- und Simulationsstadien weit verbreitet sind, ist der Ansatz, diese mit auf dem integrierten Schaltkreis (IC) zu fertigen, neuartig. In dieser Diplomarbeit soll ein von Infineon Technologies entwickeltes, auf UML basierendes Datenmodell, welches zur Erfassung von Entwurfsspezifikation und zur automatischen Code-Generierung genutzt wird dahingehend erweitert werden, die Beschreibung für im IC integrierte Assertions zu ermöglichen. Für diese Zwecke wird ein abstraktes Datenmodell beschrieben werden. Das Assertion Interface soll die spezifikationsgetreue Modellintegration gewährleisten, sowie IC interne Assertionresultate dem umgebenen System über das Interface zugänglich machen und damit zum Debugging während der Laufzeit ermöglichen. Ferner werden die Codegenerierungs Templates erläutert und einBeispielsystem eingeführt, um die beschriebenden Konzepte zu validieren.Nowadays electronic systems design requires fast time to market and solid verification throughout the entire design flow. Many concepts have been researched to raise the level of abstraction during the design entry phase, whereas model-based design is the most promising one. Assertion-based verification enables the developer to specify properties of the design and to get report if these are violated. Assertions are common during development and simulation of electronic products but often are not included in the final silicon. In this thesis an UML-based model defined at Infineon Technologies for capturing design specification information and to generate code automatically using templates, will be extended to allow the description of an abstract debuggable assertion interface for silicon assertions. With help of the assertion interface it shall be possible to verify the correct module integration and to monitor IP-internal assertion checker results. Besides, the code-generation templates for the assertion interface model will be described.     Reconfigurable Computing Systems for Robotics using a Component-Oriented Approach

    Robotic platforms are becoming more complex due to the wide range of modern applications, including multiple heterogeneous sensors and actuators. In order to comply with real-time and power-consumption constraints, these systems need to process a large amount of heterogeneous data from multiple sensors and take action (via actuators), which represents a problem as the resources of these systems have limitations in memory storage, bandwidth, and computational power. Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) are programmable logic devices that offer high-speed parallel processing. FPGAs are particularly well-suited for applications that require real-time processing, high bandwidth, and low latency. One of the fundamental advantages of FPGAs is their flexibility in designing hardware tailored to specific needs, making them adaptable to a wide range of applications. They can be programmed to pre-process data close to sensors, which reduces the amount of data that needs to be transferred to other computing resources, improving overall system efficiency. Additionally, the reprogrammability of FPGAs enables them to be repurposed for different applications, providing a cost-effective solution that needs to adapt quickly to changing demands. FPGAs' performance per watt is close to that of Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs), with the added advantage of being reprogrammable. Despite all the advantages of FPGAs (e.g., energy efficiency, computing capabilities), the robotics community has not fully included them so far as part of their systems for several reasons. First, designing FPGA-based solutions requires hardware knowledge and longer development times as their programmability is more challenging than Central Processing Units (CPUs) or Graphics Processing Units (GPUs). Second, porting a robotics application (or parts of it) from software to an accelerator requires adequate interfaces between software and FPGAs. Third, the robotics workflow is already complex on its own, combining several fields such as mechanics, electronics, and software. There have been partial contributions in the state-of-the-art for FPGAs as part of robotics systems. However, a study of FPGAs as a whole for robotics systems is missing in the literature, which is the primary goal of this dissertation. Three main objectives have been established to accomplish this. (1) Define all components required for an FPGAs-based system for robotics applications as a whole. (2) Establish how all the defined components are related. (3) With the help of Model-Driven Engineering (MDE) techniques, generate these components, deploy them, and integrate them into existing solutions. The component-oriented approach proposed in this dissertation provides a proper solution for designing and implementing FPGA-based designs for robotics applications. The modular architecture, the tool 'FPGA Interfaces for Robotics Middlewares' (FIRM), and the toolchain 'FPGA Architectures for Robotics' (FAR) provide a set of tools and a comprehensive design process that enables the development of complex FPGA-based designs more straightforwardly and efficiently. The component-oriented approach contributed to the state-of-the-art in FPGA-based designs significantly for robotics applications and helps to promote their wider adoption and use by specialists with little FPGA knowledge

    Methoden und Beschreibungssprachen zur Modellierung und Verifikation vonSchaltungen und Systemen: MBMV 2015 - Tagungsband, Chemnitz, 03. - 04. März 2015

    Der Workshop Methoden und Beschreibungssprachen zur Modellierung und Verifikation von Schaltungen und Systemen (MBMV 2015) findet nun schon zum 18. mal statt. Ausrichter sind in diesem Jahr die Professur Schaltkreis- und Systementwurf der Technischen Universität Chemnitz und das Steinbeis-Forschungszentrum Systementwurf und Test. Der Workshop hat es sich zum Ziel gesetzt, neueste Trends, Ergebnisse und aktuelle Probleme auf dem Gebiet der Methoden zur Modellierung und Verifikation sowie der Beschreibungssprachen digitaler, analoger und Mixed-Signal-Schaltungen zu diskutieren. Er soll somit ein Forum zum Ideenaustausch sein. Weiterhin bietet der Workshop eine Plattform für den Austausch zwischen Forschung und Industrie sowie zur Pflege bestehender und zur Knüpfung neuer Kontakte. Jungen Wissenschaftlern erlaubt er, ihre Ideen und Ansätze einem breiten Publikum aus Wissenschaft und Wirtschaft zu präsentieren und im Rahmen der Veranstaltung auch fundiert zu diskutieren. Sein langjähriges Bestehen hat ihn zu einer festen Größe in vielen Veranstaltungskalendern gemacht. Traditionell sind auch die Treffen der ITGFachgruppen an den Workshop angegliedert. In diesem Jahr nutzen zwei im Rahmen der InnoProfile-Transfer-Initiative durch das Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung geförderte Projekte den Workshop, um in zwei eigenen Tracks ihre Forschungsergebnisse einem breiten Publikum zu präsentieren. Vertreter der Projekte Generische Plattform für Systemzuverlässigkeit und Verifikation (GPZV) und GINKO - Generische Infrastruktur zur nahtlosen energetischen Kopplung von Elektrofahrzeugen stellen Teile ihrer gegenwärtigen Arbeiten vor.     A framework for assertion-based timing verification and PC-based restbus simulation of automotive systems

    Innovation in der Automobilindustrie wird durch Elektronik und vor allem durch Software ermöglicht. In der Regel wird eine Vielzahl von verteilten Funktionen realisiert. Typischerweise, wird diese Software über mehrere Steuergeräte verteilt. Durch die Verteilung und die Vielzahl an Funktionen ensteht eine immer wachsende Komplexität, die den Verifikations- und Validierungsprozess anspruchsvoller und schwieriger gestaltet. Daher ist für Ingenieure in der Automobilindustrie die Entwicklung von effizienten und effektiven Design-Methoden von großem Interesse.Ein zentrales Element in der Entwicklung automobiler Software ist der komponentebasierten Ansatz. Derzeit ist AUTOSAR der wichtigste Standard, der dieses Paradigma unterstützt. Die Systembeschreibungssprache SystemC ist ebenfalls ein Mittel, um AUTOSAR-Komponenten simulieren zu können. Desweiteren stellt SystemC einen Satz von Bibliotheken zur Verfügung wie zum Beispiel die „SystemC Verification Library“ (SCV), und einen diskreten Event-Simulationskern. Inzwischen ist das Interesse an der Verwendung von SystemC in der automobile Softwareentwicklung stark gestiegen.In dieser Arbeit stellen wir eine SystemC-basierte Entwurfsmethodik für eine frühe Validierung zeitkritischer automobile Systeme vor. Die Methodik reicht von einer reinen SystemC-Simulation bis zu einer PC-basierten Restbussimulation. Um die Synchronisation bezüglich Überabtastung und Unterabtastung zwischen dem SystemC-Simulationsmodell und dem Restbus während der Restbussimulation zu gewährleisten, präsentieren wir ein Synchronisationsverfahren. Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wurde für die Integration von SystemC-Komponenten IP-XACT als Modelierungsstandard verwendet. Um eine Zeitanalyse ermöglichen zu können, stellen wir Erweiterungen für den IP-XACT-Standard vor, mit deren Hilfe Zeitanforderungen anAutomotive system innovation is mainly driven by software which can be distributed over a large number of functions typically deployed over several ECUs. This growing design complexity makes the verification and validation process challenging and difficult. Therefore, the development of efficient and effective design methodologies is of great interest for automotive engineers.A central concept in the development of automotive software is the component-based approach. Currently, the most prominent approach that supports this design paradigm is the AUTOSAR. The SLDL SystemC provides means to simulate the behavior of AUTOSAR software components by means of a discrete-event simulation kernel. Additionally, SystemC comes with a set of libraries such as the SCV. Meanwhile, the interest of using SystemC has grown in the automotive software development community. In this thesis we present a SystemC-based design methodology for early validation of time-critical automotive systems. The methodology spans from pure SystemC simulation to PC-based Restbus simulation. To deal with synchronization issues (oversampling and undersampling) that arise during Restbus simulation between the SystemC simulation model and the remaining bus network, we also present a new synchronization approach. Finally, we make use IP-XACT for SystemC component integration. To capture timing constraints on the simulation model, we propose timing extensions for the IP-XACT standard.     Re-use of tests and arguments for assesing dependable mixed-critically systems

    The safety assessment of mixed-criticality systems (MCS) is a challenging activity due to system heterogeneity, design constraints and increasing complexity. The foundation for MCSs is the integrated architecture paradigm, where a compact hardware comprises multiple execution platforms and communication interfaces to implement concurrent functions with different safety requirements. Besides a computing platform providing adequate isolation and fault tolerance mechanism, the development of an MCS application shall also comply with the guidelines defined by the safety standards. A way to lower the overall MCS certification cost is to adopt a platform-based design (PBD) development approach. PBD is a model-based development (MBD) approach, where separate models of logic, hardware and deployment support the analysis of the resulting system properties and behaviour. The PBD development of MCSs benefits from a composition of modular safety properties (e.g. modular safety cases), which support the derivation of mixed-criticality product lines. The validation and verification (V&V) activities claim a substantial effort during the development of programmable electronics for safety-critical applications. As for the MCS dependability assessment, the purpose of the V&V is to provide evidences supporting the safety claims. The model-based development of MCSs adds more V&V tasks, because additional analysis (e.g., simulations) need to be carried out during the design phase. During the MCS integration phase, typically hardware-in-the-loop (HiL) plant simulators support the V&V campaigns, where test automation and fault-injection are the key to test repeatability and thorough exercise of the safety mechanisms. This dissertation proposes several V&V artefacts re-use strategies to perform an early verification at system level for a distributed MCS, artefacts that later would be reused up to the final stages in the development process: a test code re-use to verify the fault-tolerance mechanisms on a functional model of the system combined with a non-intrusive software fault-injection, a model to X-in-the-loop (XiL) and code-to-XiL re-use to provide models of the plant and distributed embedded nodes suited to the HiL simulator, and finally, an argumentation framework to support the automated composition and staged completion of modular safety-cases for dependability assessment, in the context of the platform-based development of mixed-criticality systems relying on the DREAMS harmonized platform.La dificultad para evaluar la seguridad de los sistemas de criticidad mixta (SCM) aumenta con la heterogeneidad del sistema, las restricciones de diseño y una complejidad creciente. Los SCM adoptan el paradigma de arquitectura integrada, donde un hardware embebido compacto comprende múltiples plataformas de ejecución e interfaces de comunicación para implementar funciones concurrentes y con diferentes requisitos de seguridad. Además de una plataforma de computación que provea un aislamiento y mecanismos de tolerancia a fallos adecuados, el desarrollo de una aplicación SCM además debe cumplir con las directrices definidas por las normas de seguridad. Una forma de reducir el coste global de la certificación de un SCM es adoptar un enfoque de desarrollo basado en plataforma (DBP). DBP es un enfoque de desarrollo basado en modelos (DBM), en el que modelos separados de lógica, hardware y despliegue soportan el análisis de las propiedades y el comportamiento emergente del sistema diseñado. El desarrollo DBP de SCMs se beneficia de una composición modular de propiedades de seguridad (por ejemplo, casos de seguridad modulares), que facilitan la definición de líneas de productos de criticidad mixta. Las actividades de verificación y validación (V&V) representan un esfuerzo sustancial durante el desarrollo de aplicaciones basadas en electrónica confiable. En la evaluación de la seguridad de un SCM el propósito de las actividades de V&V es obtener las evidencias que apoyen las aseveraciones de seguridad. El desarrollo basado en modelos de un SCM incrementa las tareas de V&V, porque permite realizar análisis adicionales (por ejemplo, simulaciones) durante la fase de diseño. En las campañas de pruebas de integración de un SCM habitualmente se emplean simuladores de planta hardware-in-the-loop (HiL), en donde la automatización de pruebas y la inyección de faltas son la clave para la repetitividad de las pruebas y para ejercitar completamente los mecanismos de tolerancia a fallos. Esta tesis propone diversas estrategias de reutilización de artefactos de V&V para la verificación temprana de un MCS distribuido, artefactos que se emplearán en ulteriores fases del desarrollo: la reutilización de código de prueba para verificar los mecanismos de tolerancia a fallos sobre un modelo funcional del sistema combinado con una inyección de fallos de software no intrusiva, la reutilización de modelo a X-in-the-loop (XiL) y código a XiL para obtener modelos de planta y nodos distribuidos aptos para el simulador HiL y, finalmente, un marco de argumentación para la composición automatizada y la compleción escalonada de casos de seguridad modulares, en el contexto del desarrollo basado en plataformas de sistemas de criticidad mixta empleando la plataforma armonizada DREAMS.Kritikotasun nahastuko sistemen segurtasun ebaluazioa jarduera neketsua da beraien heterogeneotasuna dela eta.
