European Higher Education Area: Challenges for a New Decade

    Get PDF
This open access book presents the major outcomes of the fourth edition of the Future of Higher Education – Bologna Process Researchers Conference (FOHE-BPRC 4) which was held in January 2020 and which has already established itself as a landmark in the European higher education environment. The conference is part of the official calendar of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) for events that promote and sustain the development of EHEA. The conference provides a unique forum for dialogue between researchers, experts and policy makers in the field of higher education, all of which is documented in this proceedings volume. The book focuses on the following five sub-themes: - Furthering the Internationalization of Higher Education: Particular - Challenges in the EHEA - Access and Success for Every Learner in Higher Education - Advancing Learning and Teaching in the EHEA: Innovation and Links With Research - The Future of the EHEA - Principles, Challenges and Ways Forward - Bologna Process in the Global Higher Education Arena. Going Digital? While acknowledging the efforts and achievements so far at EHEA level, the Paris Ministerial Communiqué highlights the need to intensify crossdisciplinary and cross-border cooperation. One of the ways to achieve this objective is to develop more efficient peer-learning activities, involving policymakers and other stakeholders from as many member states as possible for which this book provides a platform. It acknowledges the importance of a continued dialogue between researchers and decisionmakers and benefits from the experience already acquired, this way enabling the higher education community to bring its input into the 2020. European Higher Education Area (EHEA) priorities for 2020 onwards. European Higher Education Area: Challenges for a New Decade marks 21 years of Bologna Process and 10 years of EHEA and brings together an unique collection of contributions that not only reflect on all that has been achieved in these years, but more importantly, shape directions for the future. A Survey on Security and Privacy of 5G Technologies: Potential Solutions, Recent Advancements, and Future Directions

Security has become the primary concern in many telecommunications industries today as risks can have high consequences. Especially, as the core and enable technologies will be associated with 5G network, the confidential information will move at all layers in future wireless systems. Several incidents revealed that the hazard encountered by an infected wireless network, not only affects the security and privacy concerns, but also impedes the complex dynamics of the communications ecosystem. Consequently, the complexity and strength of security attacks have increased in the recent past making the detection or prevention of sabotage a global challenge. From the security and privacy perspectives, this paper presents a comprehensive detail on the core and enabling technologies, which are used to build the 5G security model; network softwarization security, PHY (Physical) layer security and 5G privacy concerns, among others. Additionally, the paper includes discussion on security monitoring and management of 5G networks. This paper also evaluates the related security measures and standards of core 5G technologies by resorting to different standardization bodies and provide a brief overview of 5G standardization security forces. Furthermore, the key projects of international significance, in line with the security concerns of 5G and beyond are also presented. Finally, a future directions and open challenges section has included to encourage future research.European CommissionNational Research Tomsk Polytechnic UniversityUpdate citation details during checkdate report - A

Toward Authentication Mechanisms for Wi-Fi Mesh Networks

    >Magister Scientiae - MScWi-Fi authentication mechanisms include central authentication, dynamic and distributed authentication and some encryption methods. Most of the existing authentication methods were designed for single-hop networks, as opposed to multihop Wi-Fi mesh networks. This research endeavors to characterize and compare existing Wi-Fi authentication mechanisms to find the best secure connection mechanism associated with Wi-Fi mesh network fragmentation and distributed authentication. The methodology is experimental and empirical, based on actual network testing. This thesis characterizes five different types of Wrt54gl firmware, three types of Wi-Fi routing protocols, and besides the eight Wi-Fi mesh network authentication protocols related to this research, it also characterizes and compares 14 existing authentication protocols. Most existing authentication protocols are not applicable to Wi-Fi mesh networks since they are based on Layer 2 of the OSI model and are not designed for Wi-Fi mesh networks. We propose using TincVPN which provides distributed authentication, fragmentation, and can provide secure connections for backbone Wi-Fi mesh networks

The conference Portugal SB10 - Sustainable Building Affordable to All is organized by University of Minho – UM, Technical University of Lisbon – IST and the Portuguese delegation of the International Initiative for a Sustainable Built Environment – iiSBE Portugal in Vilamoura, Algarve - Portugal, from the 17th till the 19th of March 2010. This conference is included in the “SB10” series of international conferences that are being organized all over the world. The event is supported by high prestige partners, such as the International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction (CIB), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the International Initiative for a Sustainable Built Environment (iiSBE), Ordem dos Engenheiros (OE – Portuguese Engineers Professional Association) and Ordem dos Arquitectos (OA – Portuguese Architects Professional Association). Currently it is undeniable the importance of buildings on sustainable development due to their potential environmental impacts. It is also undeniable the role that the construction sector can play against climatic changes through the integration of high performance and low emission construction solutions, contributing to the reduction of the environmental impacts throughout the buildings life cycle. Several solutions are already available on the market that allow performance improvements, proving that it is actually possible to contribute to the formulation of new construction strategies, not only with improved technical and environmental quality, but also economically feasible, innovative and capable of promoting the sustainable development. The international conference Portugal SB10 is an excellent opportunity to discuss and reflect on good technical practices applicable not only to buildings but also to urban areas and communities. With the organization of this event, we expect to share knowledge, examples and strategies, to formulate proposals that include new principles and initiatives for the creation of a more sustainable environment and to stimulate sustainable construction policies that can lead to more responsible construction, affordable to all. The subjects discussed in this conference cover a wide range of important issues related with sustainable construction. The contributions given by the authors are the reflection of profound work and critical research that will give an important contribution towards sustainable development. The issues presented include: - Six invited keynote papers (Chapter 1); - Policies to low cost sustainable construction (Chapter 2); - Low cost sustainable building solutions (Chapter 3); - High performance sustainable building solutions (Chapter 4); - Monitoring and evaluation (Chapter 5); - Case-studies (Chapter 6). Sustainable Construction, affordable to all, undeniably responds to the actual strategies of responsible and sustainable development, strongly contributing to innovative partnerships and for local employment, becoming thus an engine of social cohesion and an important instrument of economic, environmental and social policy for present societies. Besides the keynote papers in Chapter 1, all the other papers selected for presentation and published in these proceedings, went through a systematic process of revision and were evaluated by at least, two reviewers. The Organizers want to thank all the authors who have contributed with papers for publication in the proceedings and to all reviewers, whose efforts and hard work secured the high quality of all contributions to this conference. The Organizers want also to thank the support given by InCI (Instituto da Construção e do Imobiliário) that sponsored and made possible the edition of these Proceedings. A special gratitude is also addressed to Eng. José Amarílio Barbosa that coordinated the Secretariat of the Conference, to Eng. Miguel Silva that prepared and made available the Conference Webpage and to Eng. Catarina Araújo, Eng. Daniel Pinheiro and Eng. Deolinda Chaves for their help in administrative matters. Finally, “Portugal SB10 - Sustainable Building Affordable to All” wants to address a special thank to CIB, UNEP, iiSBE, OE and OA and wish great success for all the other SB10 events that are taking place all over the world.
