Automating the transformation-based analysis of visual languages
The final publication is available at Springer via http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s00165-009-0114-yWe present a novel approach for the automatic generation of model-to-model transformations given a description of the operational semantics of the source language in the form of graph transformation rules. The approach is geared to the generation of transformations from Domain-Specific Visual Languages (DSVLs) into semantic domains with an explicit notion of transition, like for example Petri nets. The generated transformation is expressed in the form of operational triple graph grammar rules that transform the static information (initial model) and the dynamics (source rules and their execution control structure). We illustrate these techniques with a DSVL in the domain of production systems, for which we generate a transformation into Petri nets. We also tackle the description of timing aspects in graph transformation rules, and its analysis through their automatic translation into Time Petri netsWork sponsored by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, project METEORIC (TIN2008-02081/TIN) and by the Canadian Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC)
Testing real-time systems using TINA
The paper presents a technique for model-based black-box conformance testing of real-time systems using the Time Petri Net Analyzer TINA. Such test suites are derived from a prioritized time Petri net composed of two concurrent sub-nets specifying respectively the expected behaviour of the system under test and its environment. We describe how the toolbox TINA has been extended to support automatic generation of time-optimal test suites. The result is optimal in the sense that the set of test cases in the test suite have the shortest possible accumulated time to be executed. Input/output conformance serves as the notion of implementation correctness, essentially timed trace inclusion taking environment assumptions into account. Test cases selection is based either on using manually formulated test purposes or automatically from various coverage criteria specifying structural criteria of the model to be fulfilled by the test suite. We discuss how test purposes and coverage criterion are specified in the linear temporal logic SE-LTL, derive test sequences, and assign verdicts
Test of preemptive real-time systems
Time Petri nets with stopwatches not only model system/environment interactions and time constraints. They further enable modeling of suspend/resume operations in real-time systems. Assuming the modelled systems are non deterministic and partially observable, the paper proposes a test generation approach which implements an online testing policy and outputs test results that are valid for the (part of the) selected environment. A relativized conformance relation named rswtioco is defined and a test generation algorithm is presented. The proposed approach is illustrated on an example
Semantic Embedding of Petri Nets into Event-B
We present an embedding of Petri nets into B abstract systems. The embedding
is achieved by translating both the static structure (modelling aspect) and the
evolution semantics of Petri nets. The static structure of a Petri-net is
captured within a B abstract system through a graph structure. This abstract
system is then included in another abstract system which captures the evolution
semantics of Petri-nets. The evolution semantics results in some B events
depending on the chosen policies: basic nets or high level Petri nets. The
current embedding enables one to use conjointly Petri nets and Event-B in the
same system development, but at different steps and for various analysis.Comment: 16 pages, 3 figure
Subtyping for Hierarchical, Reconfigurable Petri Nets
Hierarchical Petri nets allow a more abstract view and reconfigurable Petri
nets model dynamic structural adaptation. In this contribution we present the
combination of reconfigurable Petri nets and hierarchical Petri nets yielding
hierarchical structure for reconfigurable Petri nets. Hierarchies are
established by substituting transitions by subnets. These subnets are
themselves reconfigurable, so they are supplied with their own set of rules.
Moreover, global rules that can be applied in all of the net, are provided
A survey of the PEPA tools
This paper surveys the history and the current state of tool support for modelling with the PEPA stochastic process algebra and the PEPA nets modelling language. We discuss future directions for tool support for the PEPA family of languages.

A Petri Nets Model for Blockchain Analysis
A Blockchain is a global shared infrastructure where cryptocurrency
transactions among addresses are recorded, validated and made publicly
available in a peer- to-peer network. To date the best known and important
cryptocurrency is the bitcoin. In this paper we focus on this cryptocurrency
and in particular on the modeling of the Bitcoin Blockchain by using the Petri
Nets formalism. The proposed model allows us to quickly collect information
about identities owning Bitcoin addresses and to recover measures and
statistics on the Bitcoin network. By exploiting algebraic formalism, we
reconstructed an Entities network associated to Blockchain transactions
gathering together Bitcoin addresses into the single entity holding permits to
manage Bitcoins held by those addresses. The model allows also to identify a
set of behaviours typical of Bitcoin owners, like that of using an address only
once, and to reconstruct chains for this behaviour together with the rate of
firing. Our model is highly flexible and can easily be adapted to include
different features of the Bitcoin crypto-currency system
