The Novel Approach of Adaptive Twin Probability for Genetic Algorithm

The performance of GA is measured and analyzed in terms of its performance parameters against variations in its genetic operators and associated parameters. Since last four decades huge numbers of researchers have been working on the performance of GA and its enhancement. This earlier research work on analyzing the performance of GA enforces the need to further investigate the exploration and exploitation characteristics and observe its impact on the behavior and overall performance of GA. This paper introduces the novel approach of adaptive twin probability associated with the advanced twin operator that enhances the performance of GA. The design of the advanced twin operator is extrapolated from the twin offspring birth due to single ovulation in natural genetic systems as mentioned in the earlier works. The twin probability of this operator is adaptively varied based on the fitness of best individual thereby relieving the GA user from statically defining its value. This novel approach of adaptive twin probability is experimented and tested on the standard benchmark optimization test functions. The experimental results show the increased accuracy in terms of the best individual and reduced convergence time.Comment: 7 pages, International Journal of Advanced Studies in Computer Science and Engineering (IJASCSE), Volume 2, Special Issue 2, 201

Enhancing evolutionary algorithms through recombination and parallelism

Evolutionary computation (EC) has been recently recognized as a research field, which studies a new type of algorithms: Evolutionary Algorithms (EAs). These algorithms process populations of solutions as opposed to most traditional approaches which improve a single solution. All these algorithms share common features: reproduction, random variation, competition and selection of individuals. During our research it was evident that some components of EAs should be re-examined. Hence, specific topics such as multiple crossovers per couple and its enhancements, multiplicity of parents and crossovers and their application to single and multiple criteria optimization problems, adaptability, and parallel genetic algorithms, were proposed and investigated carefully. This paper show the most relevant and recent enhancements on recombination for a genetic-algorithm-based EA and migration control strategies for parallel genetic algorithms. Details of implementation and results are discussed.I Workshop de Agentes y Sistemas Inteligentes (WASI)Red de Universidades con Carreras en Informática (RedUNCI

This is done by transforming the topology of the hyper-rectangular real space by gluing opposite boundaries and designing a boundary extension method for making the fitness function smooth at the glued boundary. We show the advantages of the proposed crossover by comparing its performance with those of existing ones on test functions that are commonly used in the literature, and a nonlinear regression on a real-world dataset

Hybrid adaptive evolutionary algorithm based on decomposition

The performance of search operators varies across the different stages of the search/optimization process of evolutionary algorithms (EAs). In general, a single search operator may not do well in all these stages when dealing with different optimization and search problems. To mitigate this, adaptive search operator schemes have been introduced. The idea is that when a search operator hits a difficult patch (under-performs) in the search space, the EA scheme “reacts” to that by potentially calling upon a different search operator. Hence, several multiple-search operator schemes have been proposed and employed within EA. In this paper, a hybrid adaptive evolutionary algorithm based on decomposition (HAEA/D) that employs four different crossover operators is suggested. Its performance has been evaluated on the well-known IEEE CEC’09 test instances. HAEA/D has generated promising results which compare well against several well-known algorithms including MOEA/D, on a number of metrics such as the inverted generational distance (IGD), the hyper-volume, the Gamma and Delta functions. These results are included and discussed in this paper

Diversity-based adaptive genetic algorithm for a workforce scheduling and routing problem

The Workforce Scheduling and Routing Problem refers to the assignment of personnel to visits across various geographical locations. Solving this problem demands tackling numerous scheduling and routing constraints while aiming to minimise total operational cost. One of the main obstacles in designing a genetic algorithm for this highly-constrained combinatorial optimisation problem is the amount of empirical tests required for parameter tuning. This paper presents a genetic algorithm that uses a diversity-based adaptive parameter control method. Experimental results show the effectiveness of this parameter control method to enhance the performance of the genetic algorithm. This study makes a contribution to research on adaptive evolutionary algorithms applied to real-world problems
