On Canonical Models for Rational Functions over Infinite Words

    Get PDF
This paper investigates canonical transducers for rational functions over infinite words, i.e. functions of infinite words defined by finite transducers. We first consider sequential functions, defined by finite transducers with a deterministic underlying automaton. We provide a Myhill-Nerodelike characterization, in the vein of Choffrut’s result over finite words, from which we derive an algorithm that computes a transducer realizing the function which is minimal and unique (up to the automaton for the domain). The main contribution of the paper is the notion of a canonical transducer for rational functions over infinite words, extending the notion of canonical bimachine due to Reutenauer and Schützenberger from finite to infinite words. As an application, we show that the canonical transducer is aperiodic whenever the function is definable by some aperiodic transducer, or equivalently, by a first-order transduction. This allows to decide whether a rational function of infinite words is first-order definable.SCOPUS: cp.pinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe

The structure of the infinite models in integer programming

    Get PDF
The infinite models in integer programming can be described as the convex hull of some points or as the intersection of halfspaces derived from valid functions. In this paper we study the relationships between these two descriptions. Our results have implications for corner polyhedra. One consequence is that nonnegative, continuous valid functions suffice to describe corner polyhedra (with or without rational data)

Holomorphic self-maps of singular rational surfaces

We give a new proof of the classification of normal singular surface germs admitting non-invertible holomorphic self-maps and due to J. Wahl. We then draw an analogy between the birational classification of singular holomorphic foliations on surfaces, and the dynamics of holomorphic maps. Following this analogy, we introduce the notion of minimal holomorphic model for holomorphic maps. We give sufficient conditions which ensure the uniqueness of such a model.Comment: 37 pages. Bäcklund transformations, energy shift and the plane wave limit

    Get PDF
We discuss basic properties of the Bäcklund transformations for the classical string in AdS space in the context of the null-surface perturbation theory. We explain the relation between the Bäcklund transformations and the energy shift of the dual field theory state. We show that the Bäcklund transformations can be represented as a finite-time evolution generated by a special linear combination of the Pohlmeyer charges. This is a manifestation of the general property of Bäcklund transformations known as spectrality. We also discuss the plane wave limit

    Quantum and Classical Integrable Systems

The key concept discussed in these lectures is the relation between the Hamiltonians of a quantum integrable system and the Casimir elements in the underlying hidden symmetry algebra. (In typical applications the latter is either the universal enveloping algebra of an affine Lie algebra, or its q-deformation.) A similar relation also holds in the classical case. We discuss different guises of this very important relation and its implication for the description of the spectrum and the eigenfunctions of the quantum system. Parallels between the classical and the quantum cases are thoroughly discussed.Comment: 59 pages, LaTeX2.09 with AMS symbols.
