    Event-triggered sliding mode control for a class of uncertain switching systems

    We discuss the problem of event-triggered sliding mode control for a class of uncertain switched systems. First, through the pre-designed sliding mode surface, the corresponding sliding mode dynamics of the switched system are obtained. Second, based on the Lyapunov function technique and average dwell time strategy, the exponential stability of the correlated sliding mode dynamics is analyzed. Then, a sliding mode control law is designed by using the event-triggered mechanism, which can drive the state trajectories of the uncertain switched system to the bounded sliding mode region and maintain it there for subsequent time. Finally, a simulation example is given to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method

    Trust-based fault detection and robust fault-tolerant control of uncertain cyber-physical systems against time-delay injection attacks

    Control systems need to be able to operate under uncertainty and especially under attacks. To address such challenges, this paper formulates the solution of robust control for uncertain systems under time-varying and unknown time-delay attacks in cyber-physical systems (CPSs). A novel control method able to deal with thwart time-delay attacks on closed-loop control systems is proposed. Using a descriptor model and an appropriate Lyapunov functional, sufficient conditions for closed-loop stability are derived based on linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). A design procedure is proposed to obtain an optimal state feedback control gain such that the uncertain system can be resistant under an injection time-delay attack with variable delay. Furthermore, various fault detection frameworks are proposed by following the dynamics of the measured data at the system's input and output using statistical analysis such as correlation analysis and K-L (Kullback-Leibler) divergence criteria to detect attack's existence and to prevent possible instability. Finally, an example is provided to evaluate the proposed design method's effectiveness

    Optimized state feedback regulation of 3DOF helicopter system via extremum seeking

    In this paper, an optimized state feedback regulation of a 3 degree of freedom (DOF) helicopter is designed via extremum seeking (ES) technique. Multi-parameter ES is applied to optimize the tracking performance via tuning State Vector Feedback with Integration of the Control Error (SVFBICE). Discrete multivariable version of ES is developed to minimize a cost function that measures the performance of the controller. The cost function is a function of the error between the actual and desired axis positions. The controller parameters are updated online as the optimization takes place. This method significantly decreases the time in obtaining optimal controller parameters. Simulations were conducted for the online optimization under both fixed and varying operating conditions. The results demonstrate the usefulness of using ES for preserving the maximum attainable performance

    Survey on time-delay approach to networked control

    This paper provides a survey on time-delay approach to networked control systems (NCSs). The survey begins from a brief summary on fundamental network-induced issues in NCSs and the main approaches to the modelling of NCSs. In particular, a comprehensive introduction to time-delay approach to sampled-data and networked control is provided. Then, recent results on time-delay approach to event-triggered control are recalled. The survey highlights time-delay approach developed to modelling, analysis and synthesis of NCSs, under communication constraints, with a particular focus on Round-Robin, Try-once-discard and stochastic protocols. The time-delay approach allows communication delays to be larger than the sampling intervals in the presence of scheduling protocols. Moreover, some results on networked control of distributed parameter systems are surveyed. Finally, conclusions and some future research directions are briefly addressed

    Research on Advanced Control Strategies for Vehicle Active Seat Suspension Systems

    Vehicle seat suspensions play a very important role in vibration reduction for vehicle drivers, especially for some heavy vehicles. Compared with small vehicles, these heavy vehicle drivers suffer much more from vibrations, which influence driving comfort and may cause health problems, so seat suspensions are necessary for those heavy vehicle drivers to reduce vibrations and improve driving comfort. Advanced control systems and control strategies are investigated for vehicle seat suspensions in this project. Firstly, for an active single-degree of freedom (single-DOF) seat suspension, a singular system-based approach for active vibration control of vehicle seat suspensions is proposed, where the drivers’ acceleration is augmented into the conventional seat suspension model together with seat suspension deflection and relative velocity as system states to make the suspen- sion model as a singular system. Then, an event-triggered H∞ controller is designed for an active seat suspension, where both the continuous and discrete-time event-triggered schemes are considered, respectively. The proposed control method can reduce the work- load of data transmission of the seat suspension system and work as a filter to remove the effect of noise, so it can decrease the precision requirement of the actuator, which can help to reduce the cost of the seat suspension. For complicated seat suspension systems, a singular active seat suspension system with a human body model is also established and an output-feedback event-triggered H∞ controller is designed. The accelerations of each part are considered as part of the system states, which makes the system a singular sys- tem. The seat suspension deflection, relative velocity, the accelerations of the seat frame, body torso, and head are defined as the system outputs. At last, to deal with whole-body vibration, a control system and a robust H∞ control strategy are designed for a 2-DOF seat suspension system. Two H∞ controllers are designed to reduce vertical and rotational vibrations simultaneously. All the proposed seat suspension systems and control methods are verified by simulations and some are also tested by experiments. These simulation and experimental results show their effectiveness and advantages of the proposed methods to improve the driving comfort and some can reduce the workload of data transmission

    Decentralised sliding mode control for nonlinear interconnected systems with uncertainties

    With the advances in science and technology, nonlinear large-scale interconnected systems have widely appeared in the real life. Traditional centralised control methods have inevitable disadvantages when they are used to deal with complex nonlinear interconnected systems with uncertainties. In connection with this, people desire to develop the novel control strategy which can be applied to complex interconnected systems. Therefore, decentralised sliding mode control (SMC) for interconnected systems has attracted great attention in related fields due to its advantages, for instance, simple structure, low cost of calculation, fast response, reduced-order sliding mode dynamics and insensitivity to matched variation of parameters and disturbances in systems. This thesis focuses on the development of decentralised SMC for nonlinear interconnected systems with uncertainties under certain assumptions. Several methods and different techniques have been considered in design of the controller to improve the robustness. The main contributions of this thesis include: • The state feedback decentralised SMC is developed for nonlinear interconnected systems with matched uncertainty and mismatched unknown interconnections. A state feedback decentralised SMC strategy, under the assumption that all system states are accessible, is proposed to attenuate the impact of the uncertainties by using bounds on uncertainties and interconnections. The bounds used in the design are fully nonlinear which provide higher applicability for different complex interconnected systems. Especially, for this fully nonlinear system, the proposed method does not need to use the technique of linearisation, which is widely used in existing work to deal with nonlinear interconnected systems with uncertainties. • The dynamic observer is applied to complex nonlinear interconnected systems with matched and mismatched uncertainties. This dynamic observer can estimate the system states which can not be achieved during the controller design. The proposed method has great identification ability with small estimated errors for the states of nonlinear interconnected systems with matched and mismatched uncertainties. It should be pointed out that the considered uncertainties of nonlinear interconnected systems have general forms, which means that the proposed method can be effectively used in more generalised nonlinear interconnected systems. • A variable structure observer-based decentralised SMC is proposed to control a class of nonlinear interconnected systems with matched and mismatched uncertainties. Based on the designed dynamic observer, a dynamic decentralised output feedback SMC using outputs and estimated states is presented to control the interconnected systems with matched and mismatched uncertainties. The nonlinear interconnections are employed in the control design to reduce the conservatism of the developed results. The bounds of the uncertainties are relaxed which are nonlinear and take more general forms. Moreover, the limitation for the interconnected system is reduced when compared with the existing results in which the proposed strategies adopt the full-order observer. Besides that, the presented method improves the robustness of nonlinear interconnected systems to be against the effects of uncertainties. This thesis also provides several numerical and practical simulations to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed decentralised SMC for nonlinear interconnected systems with matched uncertainty, mismatched uncertainty and nonlinear interconnections
