    Disturbance observer-based fault-tolerant control for robotic systems with guaranteed prescribed performance

    The actuator failure compensation control problem of robotic systems possessing dynamic uncertainties has been investigated in this paper. Control design against partial loss of effectiveness (PLOE) and total loss of effectiveness (TLOE) of the actuator are considered and described, respectively, and a disturbance observer (DO) using neural networks is constructed to attenuate the influence of the unknown disturbance. Regarding the prescribed error bounds as time-varying constraints, the control design method based on barrier Lyapunov function (BLF) is used to strictly guarantee both the steady-state performance and the transient performance. A simulation study on a two-link planar manipulator verifies the effectiveness of the proposed controllers in dealing with the prescribed performance, the system uncertainties, and the unknown actuator failure simultaneously. Implementation on a Baxter robot gives an experimental verification of our controller

    A novel switched model predictive control of wind turbines using artificial neural network-Markov chains prediction with load mitigation

    The existing model predictive control algorithm based on continuous control using quadratic programming is currently one of the most used modern control strategies applied to wind turbines. However, heavy computational time involved and complexity in implementation are still obstructions in existing model predictive control algorithm. Owing to this, a new switched model predictive control technique is developed for the control of wind turbines with the ability to reduce complexity while maintaining better efficiency. The proposed technique combines model predictive control operating on finite control set and artificial intelligence with reinforcement techniques (Markov Chains, MC) to design a new effective control law which allows to achieve the control objectives in different wind speed zones with minimization of computational complexity. The proposed method is compared with the existing model predictive control algorithm, and it has been found that the proposed algorithm is better in terms of computational time, load mitigation, and dynamic response. The proposed research is a forward step towards refining modern control techniques to achieve optimization in nonlinear process control using novel hybrid structures based on conventional control laws and artificial intelligence.© 2021 THE AUTHORS.     Optimized state feedback regulation of 3DOF helicopter system via extremum seeking

    In this paper, an optimized state feedback regulation of a 3 degree of freedom (DOF) helicopter is designed via extremum seeking (ES) technique. Multi-parameter ES is applied to optimize the tracking performance via tuning State Vector Feedback with Integration of the Control Error (SVFBICE). Discrete multivariable version of ES is developed to minimize a cost function that measures the performance of the controller. The cost function is a function of the error between the actual and desired axis positions. The controller parameters are updated online as the optimization takes place. This method significantly decreases the time in obtaining optimal controller parameters. Simulations were conducted for the online optimization under both fixed and varying operating conditions. The results demonstrate the usefulness of using ES for preserving the maximum attainable performance

    Recent advances on recursive filtering and sliding mode design for networked nonlinear stochastic systems: A survey

The network-induced phenomena under consideration mainly include missing measurements, fading measurements, signal quantization, probabilistic sensor delays, sensor saturations, randomly occurring nonlinearities, and randomly occurring uncertainties. With respect to these network-induced phenomena, the developments on filtering and sliding mode design problems are systematically reviewed. In particular, concerning the network-induced phenomena, some recent results on the recursive filtering for time-varying nonlinear stochastic systems and sliding mode design for time-invariant nonlinear stochastic systems are given, respectively.     Adaptive neural network cascade control system with entropy-based design

    A neural network (NN) based cascade control system is developed, in which the primary PID controller is constructed by NN. A new entropy-based measure, named the centred error entropy (CEE) index, which is a weighted combination of the error cross correntropy (ECC) criterion and the error entropy criterion (EEC), is proposed to tune the NN-PID controller. The purpose of introducing CEE in controller design is to ensure that the uncertainty in the tracking error is minimised and also the peak value of the error probability density function (PDF) being controlled towards zero. The NN-controller design based on this new performance function is developed and the convergent conditions are. During the control process, the CEE index is estimated by a Gaussian kernel function. Adaptive rules are developed to update the kernel size in order to achieve more accurate estimation of the CEE index. This NN cascade control approach is applied to superheated steam temperature control of a simulated power plant system, from which the effectiveness and strength of the proposed strategy are discussed by comparison with NN-PID controllers tuned with EEC and ECC criterions
