Short Summary
The design of complex distributed embedded computer systems is often a big
challenge because they are large and contain many parallel working components
under real time conditions. The dynamic diagrams like Sequence Diagrams, State
Charts and Activity Diagrams are often not sufficient to model the high
complexity of these computer systems. There is no transformation possibility
from one description type into another. There are no or only limited
possibilities for formal analysis of system properties. Coloured dynamic
Sequence Diagrams, State Charts and Activity Diagrams will be developed in this
work to integrate the well-known object oriented modelling techniques into the
design process of complex distributed real time systems. Coloured diagrams
derive from folding several simple diagrams which are executed autonomously or
influence each other in some parts. The coloured diagram types have sufficient
means for the clear and unique description of the composition of several simple
diagrams and some additional mechanisms for description of the dependencies and
connections between the separate objects. A transformation of these diagrams
into one another which allows a parallel use of similar description means will
be developed. The colours which essentially model the different similar
components will be kept up the transformation of these diagram types into
Coloured Petri Nets as a temporary notation and will be kept up the
transformation in other diagram types. They are responsible for the clear
assignment and the identification of the several components of a model during
the whole design process. The transformation via Coloured Petri Nets is
effective because they also use the colour concept and they integrate the basic
concepts of the initial diagrams. The verification method for Coloured Time
Interval Petri Nets designed in this work allows assertions about the fulfilment
of time restrictions and about reachability of markings, liveness, about absence
of conflicts, boundedness and dynamic conflicts. The usability of these
extensions will be demonstrated with a real modelling example.
The dissertation is about principles, methods and techniques during the
systematic development of embedded systems in the domain of measurement
techniques. The considered domain contains fields of application with
challenging and specific requirements of the information processing system.
E.g. the dynamic weighing systems need solutions with very high resolution
and lowest achievable measurement uncertainty in order to perform
high-speed-measurements in a mechanically disturbed environment. In
particular, the abilities for official calibration and metrologic
reliability are considered. The complex and high-performance functions are
required to guarantee measurement results. FPGA-based systems are used for
the implementation of these functions. The especially designed certifiable
development process (ZEfIRA) provides a procedural method for the
development of complex embedded systems. The metrologic reliability, the
legal requirements like calibratability, the validation and the
verification are included as a general criteria in the entire development
process. ZEfIRA is based on the 3W-model and is designed in an evolutionary
manner. This process starts with the analysis of a predecessor system
followed by the model-based development of a prototype, which leads into an
optimized and application-specific product solution. The study emphasizes
the influence of challenging requirements on the measurement system. It
will be presented, how these can be integrated into the modelling level
during the design and the implementation on a FPGA-based target platform.
The stages of the functional and technical design of the system are
analysed, whereas the realization of the partitions “FPGA logic” and “FPGA
softcore solutions” are discussed in detail.Based on the preliminary design
of the information processing in an electromagnetic force compensation
(EMC) scale, the applicability of the process ZEfIRA and its developed
methods and principles are proved. On the one hand, the optimal
system-specific algorithms of signal processing, control and safety and on
the other hand whose technical implementation are essential. This was
realized with different performance parameters. In addition, the prototype
allows the possible comprehensive analysis for embedding system. In the
conclusion, the performance of ZEfIRA based on the prototype development is
evaluated.
Communication Infrastructure for high-dynamic Parallel Kinematic Machines
The goal of this thesis is the concept development, implementation and testing of a centrally organized communication infrastructure. It aims to support the development of control systems for high-dynamic robot applications, and thus provides a uniform, modular and real-time capable application programming interface (API) for all software modules involved. The development and application is performed using the operating system QNX Neutrino together with C/C++ programming language. The background of this thesis is the Collaborative Research Center (CRS) 562. Here, foundations for the development of parallel kinematic machines (PKMs) are worked out regarding necessary methods and components. The application of PKMs make high demands on the performance of robot control: coupled kinematic structures together with resulting special singularities require more and efficient control functions for motion control; additional sensors (integrated within the robot structure) increase the necessary data traffic while aiming to reduce calculational complexity; requirements for the synchronisation of drives necessitate high-speed communication mechanisms. Additional requirements regard the performance of the overall robot system: positioning accuracy, acceleration and velocity of the robot end-effector, which are expected to outsell those realised with conventional (serial) robot structures. Commercially available solutions for control systems do not suit all of these demands which calls for a unique control system design from standard components (computer hardware, operating system, communication system and programming language). The object of this thesis is, at first, the examination of fundamental mechanisms from the domain of software and communication technology in order to select suitable mechanisms for process organisation, inter process communication, synchronisation, configuration and presentation of data flow. These are to be provided for the control function modules in a uniform way. In the main part of this thesis the concept of the communication infrastructure is introduced in detail as well as the overall description of its implementation in hardware and software. The infrastructure consists of three main components which work together as a functional unit: the middleware MiRPA-X, the communication protocol IAP and the FireWire communication system (IEEE 1394). They form an efficient framework in order to provide transparent, modular and uniform communication and synchronisation mechanisms for the development of powerful and real-time control functionality. Within the project work in the Collaborative Research Center this novel communication infrastructure proved of indispensable value. For other robot control systems outside the CRS, it should thus be considered when using standard components
