    Parallel Multi-Hypothesis Algorithm for Criticality Estimation in Traffic and Collision Avoidance

    Due to the current developments towards autonomous driving and vehicle active safety, there is an increasing necessity for algorithms that are able to perform complex criticality predictions in real-time. Being able to process multi-object traffic scenarios aids the implementation of a variety of automotive applications such as driver assistance systems for collision prevention and mitigation as well as fall-back systems for autonomous vehicles. We present a fully model-based algorithm with a parallelizable architecture. The proposed algorithm can evaluate the criticality of complex, multi-modal (vehicles and pedestrians) traffic scenarios by simulating millions of trajectory combinations and detecting collisions between objects. The algorithm is able to estimate upcoming criticality at very early stages, demonstrating its potential for vehicle safety-systems and autonomous driving applications. An implementation on an embedded system in a test vehicle proves in a prototypical manner the compatibility of the algorithm with the hardware possibilities of modern cars. For a complex traffic scenario with 11 dynamic objects, more than 86 million pose combinations are evaluated in 21 ms on the GPU of a Drive PX~2

    Road pollution estimation using static cameras and neural networks

    Este artículo presenta una metodología para estimar la contaminación en carreteras mediante el análisis de secuencias de video de tráfico. El objetivo es aprovechar la gran red de cámaras IP existente en el sistema de carreteras de cualquier estado o país para estimar la contaminación en cada área. Esta propuesta utiliza redes neuronales de aprendizaje profundo para la detección de objetos, y un modelo de estimación de contaminación basado en la frecuencia de vehículos y su velocidad. Los experimentos muestran prometedores resultados que sugieren que el sistema se puede usar en solitario o combinado con los sistemas existentes para medir la contaminación en carreteras.Universidad de Málaga.     Co-Clustering Network-Constrained Trajectory Data

    Recently, clustering moving object trajectories kept gaining interest from both the data mining and machine learning communities. This problem, however, was studied mainly and extensively in the setting where moving objects can move freely on the euclidean space. In this paper, we study the problem of clustering trajectories of vehicles whose movement is restricted by the underlying road network. We model relations between these trajectories and road segments as a bipartite graph and we try to cluster its vertices. We demonstrate our approaches on synthetic data and show how it could be useful in inferring knowledge about the flow dynamics and the behavior of the drivers using the road network

    Modeling Checkpoint-Based Movement with the Earth Mover's Distance

    Movement data comes in various forms, including trajectory data and checkpoint data. While trajectories give detailed information about the movement of individual entities, checkpoint data in its simplest form does not give identities, just counts at checkpoints. However, checkpoint data is of increasing interest since it is readily available due to privacy reasons and as a by-product of other data collection. In this paper we propose to use the Earth Mover’s Distance as a versatile tool to reconstruct individual movements or flow based on checkpoint counts at different times. We analyze the modeling possibilities and provide experiments that validate model predictions, based on coarse-grained aggregations of data about actual movements of couriers in London, UK. While we cannot expect to reconstruct precise individual movements from highly granular checkpoint data, the evaluation does show that the approach can generate meaningful estimates of object movements.     A survey on Human Mobility and its applications

    Human Mobility has attracted attentions from different fields of studies such as epidemic modeling, traffic engineering, traffic prediction and urban planning. In this survey we review major characteristics of human mobility studies including from trajectory-based studies to studies using graph and network theory. In trajectory-based studies statistical measures such as jump length distribution and radius of gyration are analyzed in order to investigate how people move in their daily life, and if it is possible to model this individual movements and make prediction based on them. Using graph in mobility studies, helps to investigate the dynamic behavior of the system, such as diffusion and flow in the network and makes it easier to estimate how much one part of the network influences another by using metrics like centrality measures. We aim to study population flow in transportation networks using mobility data to derive models and patterns, and to develop new applications in predicting phenomena such as congestion. Human Mobility studies with the new generation of mobility data provided by cellular phone networks, arise new challenges such as data storing, data representation, data analysis and computation complexity. A comparative review of different data types used in current tools and applications of Human Mobility studies leads us to new approaches for dealing with mentioned challenges
