A Novel Gesture-based CAPTCHA Design for Smart Devices

CAPTCHAs have been widely used in Web applications to prevent service abuse. With the evolution of computing environment from desktop computing to ubiquitous computing, more and more users are accessing Web applications on smart devices where touch based interactions are dominant. However, the majority of CAPTCHAs are designed for use on computers and laptops which do not reflect the shift of interaction style very well. In this paper, we propose a novel CAPTCHA design to utilise the convenience of touch interface while retaining the needed security. This is achieved through using a hybrid challenge to take advantages of human’s cognitive abilities. A prototype is also developed and found to be more user friendly than conventional CAPTCHAs in the preliminary user acceptance test

Picketing for Area Standards: An Exception to Section 8(b)(7)

A union\u27s picketing for area standards, requesting a non-union employer to provide the prevailing employment benefits offered by unionized operations in the locale, has been held by the National Labor Relations Board to be non-recognitional and hence beyond the purview of section 8(b)(7) of the LMRDA. In addition to evaluating the Board\u27s distinction between bona fide area standards picketing and disguised recognitional picketing, this comment seeks to anticipate difficulties which the Board will encounter in attempting to specify the components of the economic package to which non-union employers may be requested to conform

Contributive Justice: An exploration of a wider provision of meaningful work

Extreme inequality of opportunity leads to a number of social tensions, inefficiencies and injustices. One issue of increasing concern is the effect inequality is having on people’s fair chances of attaining meaningful work, thus limiting opportunities to make a significant positive contribution to society and reducing the chances of living a flourishing life and developing their potential. On a global scale we can observe an increasingly uneven provision of meaningful work, raising a series of ethical concerns that need detailed examination. The aim of this article is to explore the potential of a normative framework based upon the idea of contributive justice to defend a fairer provision of meaningful work

[From Introduction] This country study for Australia is part of the ILO project \u27Employment of People with Disabilities – the Impact of Legislation’ which aims to enhance the capacity of national governments in selected countries of Asia and East Africa to implement effective legislation concerning the employment of people with disabilities. Starting with a systematic examination of laws in place to promote employment and training opportunities for people with disabilities in selected countries of Asia and the Pacific (Australia, Cambodia, China, Fiji, Japan, India, Mongolia, Sri Lanka and Thailand), the project sets out to examine the operation of such legislation, identify the implementation mechanisms in place and suggest improvements Technical assistance is provided to selected national governments in implementing necessary improvements
