    Get PDF
This paper succeeded in utilizing cellular automata (CA) model to simulate the process of the train operation under the four-aspect color light system and getting the nonperiodic diagram of the mixed passenger and freight tracks. Generally speaking, the concerned models could simulate well the situation of wagon in preventing trains from colliding when parking and restarting and of the real-time changes the situation of train speeds and displacement and get hold of the current train states in their departures and arrivals. Finally the model gets the train diagram that simulates the train operation in different ratios of the van and analyzes some parameter characters in the process of train running, such as time, speed, through capacity, interval departing time, and departing numbers

On the Influence of Piecewise Defined Contact Geometries on Friction Dampers

    Running Dynamics of Rail Vehicles

    Get PDF
The investigation of rail vehicle running dynamics plays an important role in the more than 200 year development of railway vehicles and infrastructure. Currently, there are a number of new requirements for rail transport associated with the reduced environmental impact, energy consumption and wear, whilst increasing train speed and passenger comfort. Therefore, the running dynamics of rail vehicles is still a research topic that requires improved simulation tools and experimental procedures. The book focuses on the current research topics in railway vehicles running dynamics. Special attention is given to high-speed railway transport, acoustic and vibrational impact of railway transport to the surroundings, optimization of energy supply systems for railway transport, traction drives optimization and wear of wheels and rails

    The runup of long waves

    Get PDF
This is a study of the fundamental physical processes of the runup of long waves with the objective to understand some coastal effects of tsunamis. The runup of nonbreaking long waves on plane beaches is studied and an exact solution is developed for the runup of solitary waves. The maximum runup predicted by this solution is compared to laboratory data from this and other investigations and it is found to be in good agreement. A runup transducer was developed and deployed in the laboratory to provide data for the shape of the runup tongue. The exact solution is shown to model the details of the climb of the wave satisfactorily. The runup of breaking long waves on plane beaches is investigated in the laboratory by studying different long waves and bores of [mite volume. The runup is shown to be a function of a momentum scale determined from the generation characteristics of the incoming wave. The runup number is introduced and it is demonstrated that it models the runup process adequately. It is also observed that arbitrary long waves have runup numbers smaller than, or at most equal to, the runup number of breaking solitary waves, suggesting that on a given plane beach breaking solitary waves run-up further than other long waves with similar generation characteristics. An exact result is established for the force on an accelerating plate in a fluid with a free surface. The result is used to explain some of the results of this study and other results on the hydrodynamic forces on moving partitions. A technique is developed to generate arbitrary, long, continuously evolving waves at any desired location in a laboratory model. The technique is applied in the laboratory and it is shown to be successful in reproducing complex waveforms

Everybody has been a part of a control system at some time. Some examples of this are when driving a car, balancing a broomstick on a hand, walking or standing up without falling, taking a glass to drink water, and so on. These control systems, however, arenotautomaticcontrolsystems, asapersonisrequiredtoperformarole in it. To explain this idea, in this section some more technical examples of control systems are described in which a person performs a rol

Analogic for code estimation and detection

Thesis (S.M.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, School of Architecture and Planning, Program in Media Arts and Sciences, 2005.Includes bibliographical references (p. 125-128).Analogic is a class of analog statistical signal processing circuits that dynamically solve an associated inference problem by locally propagating probabilities in a message-passing algorithm [29] [15]. In this thesis, we study an exemplary embodiment of analogic called Noise-Locked Loop(NLL) which is a pseudo-random code estimation system. The previous work shows NLL can perform direct-sequence spread-spectrum acquisition and tracking functionality and promises orders-of-magnitude win over digital implementations [29]. Most of the research [30] [2] [3] has been focused on the simulation and implementation of probability representation NLL derived from exact form message-passing algorithms. We propose an approximate message-passing algorithm for NLL in log-likelihood ratio(LLR) representation and have constructed its analogic implementation. The new approximate NLL gives shorter acquisition time comparing to the exact form NLL. The approximate message-passing algorithm makes it possible to construct analogic which is almost temperature independent. This is very useful in the design of robust large-scale analogic networks. Generalized belief propagation(GBP) has been proposed to improve the computational accuracy of Belief Propagation [31] [32] [33].(cont.) The application of GBP to NLL promises significantly improvement of the synchronization performance. However, there is no report on circuit implementation. In this thesis, we propose analogic circuits to implement the basic computations in GBP, which can be used to construct general GBP systems. Finally we propose a novel current-mode signal restoration circuit which will be important in scaling analogic to large networks.by Xu Sun.S.M
