A Systematic Review of LPWAN and Short-Range Network using AI to Enhance Internet of Things

    Get PDF
Artificial intelligence (AI) has recently been used frequently, especially concerning the Internet of Things (IoT). However, IoT devices cannot work alone, assisted by Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) for long-distance communication and Short-Range Network for a short distance. However, few reviews about AI can help LPWAN and Short-Range Network. Therefore, the author took the opportunity to do this review. This study aims to review LPWAN and Short-Range Networks AI papers in systematically enhancing IoT performance. Reviews are also used to systematically maximize LPWAN systems and Short-Range networks to enhance IoT quality and discuss results that can be applied to a specific scope. The author utilizes selected reporting items for systematic review and meta-analysis (PRISMA). The authors conducted a systematic review of all study results in support of the authors' objectives. Also, the authors identify development and related study opportunities. The author found 79 suitable papers in this systematic review, so a discussion of the presented papers was carried out. Several technologies are widely used, such as LPWAN in general, with several papers originating from China. Many reports from conferences last year and papers related to this matter were from 2020-2021. The study is expected to inspire experimental studies in finding relevant scientific papers and become another review

The vision of highly parallel, automated manufacturing systems that can build macroscopic products by heterogeneous assembly of many small devices will have a major impact in manufacturing. In this study, a novel milli-scale robotic assembly machine with parallel capabilities, assisted with programmable magnetic field, is developed. The machine prototype consists of a 16x16 array of electromagnets. The dimensions of the electromagnets are 5mm high with an inner diameter of 1.1mm and outer diameter of 2.5mm. All the electromagnets are driven by a 16x16 array of H-Bridges, and an Arduino microcontroller is used to control and program the arrays. Using the machine to manipulate up to nine milli-scale robots simultaneously is demonstrated. The robot is designed with a 3x3 electromagnets array to operate and it consists of two parts: a polycarbonate chassis and five grade N42 NdFeB permanent magnets located at four corners and center of the chassis. The capability of pick-and-place millimeter size devices, such as SMD (Surface Mounted Device) LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes), specifically 0805 LEDs, is demonstrated by using the prototype machine. A milli-scale tweezer is designed using AutoCAD Fusion 360 and simulated with COMSOL Multiphysics. The milli-scale tweezer is fabricated using a home-built Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine. The tweezer is subsequently mounted to the robots. For proof-of-concept, simultaneous operation for pick-and-place two LEDs is carried out by two milli robots. Furthermore, an 8x8 LED array is assembled by operating a single robot, which proves the potential capability of assembling an LED screen with the presented technology. The problems and challenges as well as the future outlook are discussed in the last chapter

Analysis on swarm robot coordination using fuzzy logic

    Get PDF
In this paper, coordination among individual of swarm robot in communicating to maintain the safe distance between robots is analyzed. Each robot coordinates their movements to avoid obstacles and moving simultaneously. Evaluation of swarm robot performance is analyzed in this paper, namely: the coordination among robots to share information in safe distance determination. In controlling the coordination of motion, each robot has a sensor that provides several inputs about its surrounding environment. Fuzzy logic control in this paper allows uncertain input, and produces unlimited commands to control motion direction with speed settings according to environmental conditions. In this experiment, it is obtained that the size of the environment affects the coordination of robots

Wireless distributed intelligence in personal applications

The development of computing is moving from mainframe computers to distributed intelligence with wireless features. The automated functions around us, in the form of small electronic devices, are increasing and the pace is continuously accelerating. The number of these applications will increase in the future, but suitable features needed are lacking and suitable technology development is still ongoing. The existing wireless short-range standards are mostly suitable for use in industry and in multimedia applications, but they are only partly suitable for the new network feature demands of the ambient intelligence applications. The ambient intelligent applications will serve us in our daily lives: security, access control and exercise services. Ambient intelligence is also adopted by industry in distributed amorphous automation, in access monitoring and the control of machines and devices. During this research, at Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences, we have researched, designed and developed short-range wireless technology: low-power radio buttons with a programming environment for them as well as synchronization, data collecting and routing features for the wireless network. We have simulated different routing methods, indoor positioning and excavator calibration using for example neurocomputing. In addition, we have tested the technology in practical applications. The ambient intelligent applications are perhaps the area growing the most in information technology in the future. There will be many new challenges to face to increase welfare, health, security, as well as industrial applications (for example, at factories and in smart grids) in the future.fi=vertaisarvioitu|en=peerReviewed
