    日本人大学生を対象にした英語学習ウエブアプリケーションの導入

    This case study examines the introduction of web-based apps to Japanese university students for skill-based English learning. The focus is on 32 students from the International Studies and Education departments at a private Japanese university. The course was an elective English course titled,“ Current Events English.” In class, activities consisted of analog speaking activities from the textbook. However, web-based applications were introduced to support class preparation, the midterm, and the final project. The Memrise app for vocab learning was optional for class preparation. Use of Google Classroom was required for accessing the initial class documents, and Cambridge Write & Improve was required or the final project. Data was collected from the applications as well as from student surveys. The findings provide insight into the efficacy of webbased applications for language learning in Japan. It also contributes to the body of knowledge regarding the reticence of Japanese university students to adopt digital modes of language learning.本事例研究では日本人大学生を対象にした英語学習のためのウエブアプリケーション(WA) の適用可能性を明らかにする。対象は国際教育学科と教育経営学科の学生32人である。時事英語(選択教科コース)では主に教科書からのアナログ・スピーキング・アクティビティーを行ったが,授業の事前準備,中間発表,およびファイナルプロジェクトために三つのWAを導入した。学生主体の 事前準備のためにMemriseの語彙学習アプリを使用し,授業のシラバスおよびプリントを手に入れるためにグーグル・クラスルームを必要とした。ファイナルプロジェクトのためにCambridge Write & Improveも必要とした。WAと学生アンケートからデータを収集して分析した。本研究の結果は,日本人学生が言語学習にWAを使用することに控えめであるにもかかわらず,WAが語学学習には有効であるという知識体系を得られた

    Simple methods for assessing groundwater resources in low permeability areas of Africa

    In many areas throughout Africa, a staggering proportion of wells and boreholes fail. Failure can occur for a number of reasons – inadequate maintenance and community involvement, poor engineering or a lack of water. Often it can be difficult to work out the exact reason after the event. However, in many geological environments the impacts of poorly sited and designed boreholes and wells are a major concern to funding agencies, implementing institutions and local communities. In such areas, good supplies of groundwater cannot be found everywhere, and boreholes and wells must be sited and designed carefully to make use of the available groundwater. To appropriately site and design water sources, the groundwater resources of an area need first to be investigated to understand how water occurs in the ground. In this manual we present some techniques that allow a quick assessment of groundwater resources without requiring much expertise or expense. Some of the techniques are old and established while others are new. However, all techniques have been tested by BGS (and others) in assessing groundwater resources in Africa. This manual does not claim to be a detailed textbook for hydrogeologists – there are enough already (see reading list at the end of the chapter). Rather it is meant as a practicalaid for those involved in the practice of rural water supply, particularly in Africa. Little training or equipment is required for the tests and they can all be carried out in a short space of time. The manual is divided into six sections. The first gives an overview of the groundwater resources of sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) and discusses the scope and detail of investigations required in different geological environments. The remaining chapters describe simple techniques for assessing groundwater resources, from basic reconnaissance to assessing the yield of a borehole. In the appendix are summary sheets of the most common techniques which can be photocopied and used in the field

    My goal is to prove a better data model can help us to work less. If we plan before work, we can save our resources, such as time, money, human resources and work. I would like to prove it with solving a reincurring problem: In Hungary students finishing their studies need to pass the final exam, which is organised twice a year, in each exam period. Some years ago we filed the reports by pen, nowadays we use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), but either way, administration remained a largely mechanical, tedious task. I developed a data model, and some software to automate the task. With this solution the administrators have less work in the exam period. They can save about 8 hours per exam. The solution I propose uses free softwares1. Not only because it is free of charge, but first of all because in this case I have the freedom to change even the program codes, and anybody can download and use them without any administrative tasks.
