    This open access book presents an interdisciplinary, multi-authored, edited collection of chapters on Artificial Intelligence (‘AI’) and the Law. AI technology has come to play a central role in the modern data economy. Through a combination of increased computing power, the growing availability of data and the advancement of algorithms, AI has now become an umbrella term for some of the most transformational technological breakthroughs of this age. The importance of AI stems from both the opportunities that it offers and the challenges that it entails. While AI applications hold the promise of economic growth and efficiency gains, they also create significant risks and uncertainty. The potential and perils of AI have thus come to dominate modern discussions of technology and ethics – and although AI was initially allowed to largely develop without guidelines or rules, few would deny that the law is set to play a fundamental role in shaping the future of AI. As the debate over AI is far from over, the need for rigorous analysis has never been greater. This book thus brings together contributors from different fields and backgrounds to explore how the law might provide answers to some of the most pressing questions raised by AI.     This fifth volume on Advances and Applications of DSmT for Information Fusion collects theoretical and applied contributions of researchers working in different fields of applications and in mathematics, and is available in open-access. The collected contributions of this volume have either been published or presented after disseminating the fourth volume in 2015 in international conferences, seminars, workshops and journals, or they are new. The contributions of each part of this volume are chronologically ordered. First Part of this book presents some theoretical advances on DSmT, dealing mainly with modified Proportional Conflict Redistribution Rules (PCR) of combination with degree of intersection, coarsening techniques, interval calculus for PCR thanks to set inversion via interval analysis (SIVIA), rough set classifiers, canonical decomposition of dichotomous belief functions, fast PCR fusion, fast inter-criteria analysis with PCR, and improved PCR5 and PCR6 rules preserving the (quasi-)neutrality of (quasi-)vacuous belief assignment in the fusion of sources of evidence with their Matlab codes.     Pre-Trained Driving in Localized Surroundings with Semantic Radar Information and Machine Learning

    Entlang der Signalverarbeitungskette von Radar Detektionen bis zur Fahrzeugansteuerung, diskutiert diese Arbeit eine semantischen Radar Segmentierung, einen darauf aufbauenden Radar SLAM, sowie eine im Verbund realisierte autonome Parkfunktion. Die Radarsegmentierung der (statischen) Umgebung wird durch ein Radar-spezifisches neuronales Netzwerk RadarNet erreicht. Diese Segmentierung ermöglicht die Entwicklung des semantischen Radar Graph-SLAM SERALOC. Auf der Grundlage der semantischen Radar SLAM Karte wird eine beispielhafte autonome Parkfunktionalität in einem realen Versuchsträger umgesetzt. Entlang eines aufgezeichneten Referenzfades parkt die Funktion ausschließlich auf Basis der Radar Wahrnehmung mit bisher unerreichter Positioniergenauigkeit. Im ersten Schritt wird ein Datensatz von 8.2 · 10^6 punktweise semantisch gelabelten Radarpunktwolken über eine Strecke von 2507.35m generiert. Es sind keine vergleichbaren Datensätze dieser Annotationsebene und Radarspezifikation öffentlich verfügbar. Das überwachte Training der semantischen Segmentierung RadarNet erreicht 28.97% mIoU auf sechs Klassen. Außerdem wird ein automatisiertes Radar-Labeling-Framework SeRaLF vorgestellt, welches das Radarlabeling multimodal mittels Referenzkameras und LiDAR unterstützt. Für die kohärente Kartierung wird ein Radarsignal-Vorfilter auf der Grundlage einer Aktivierungskarte entworfen, welcher Rauschen und andere dynamische Mehrwegreflektionen unterdrückt. Ein speziell für Radar angepasstes Graph-SLAM-Frontend mit Radar-Odometrie Kanten zwischen Teil-Karten und semantisch separater NDT Registrierung setzt die vorgefilterten semantischen Radarscans zu einer konsistenten metrischen Karte zusammen. Die Kartierungsgenauigkeit und die Datenassoziation werden somit erhöht und der erste semantische Radar Graph-SLAM für beliebige statische Umgebungen realisiert. Integriert in ein reales Testfahrzeug, wird das Zusammenspiel der live RadarNet Segmentierung und des semantischen Radar Graph-SLAM anhand einer rein Radar-basierten autonomen Parkfunktionalität evaluiert. Im Durchschnitt über 42 autonome Parkmanöver (∅3.73 km/h) bei durchschnittlicher Manöverlänge von ∅172.75m wird ein Median absoluter Posenfehler von 0.235m und End-Posenfehler von 0.2443m erreicht, der vergleichbare Radar-Lokalisierungsergebnisse um ≈ 50% übertrifft. Die Kartengenauigkeit von veränderlichen, neukartierten Orten über eine Kartierungsdistanz von ∅165m ergibt eine ≈ 56%-ige Kartenkonsistenz bei einer Abweichung von ∅0.163m. Für das autonome Parken wurde ein gegebener Trajektorienplaner und Regleransatz verwendet

    Integrating artificial intelligence with food category recognition has been a field of interest for research for the past few decades. It is potentially one of the next steps in revolutionizing human interaction with food. The modern advent of big data and the development of data-oriented fields like deep learning have provided advancements in food category recognition. With increasing computational power and ever-larger food datasets, the approach’s potential has yet to be realized. This survey provides an overview of methods that can be applied to various food category recognition tasks, including detecting type, ingredients, quality, and quantity. We survey the core components for constructing a machine learning system for food category recognition, including datasets, data augmentation, hand-crafted feature extraction, and machine learning algorithms. We place a particular focus on the field of deep learning, including the utilization of convolutional neural networks, transfer learning, and semi-supervised learning.     Applications in Monocular Computer Vision using Geometry and Learning : Map Merging, 3D Reconstruction and Detection of Geometric Primitives

    As the dream of autonomous vehicles moving around in our world comes closer, the problem of robust localization and mapping is essential to solve. In this inherently structured and geometric problem we also want the agents to learn from experience in a data driven fashion. How the modern Neural Network models can be combined with Structure from Motion (SfM) is an interesting research question and this thesis studies some related problems in 3D reconstruction, feature detection, SfM and map merging.In Paper I we study how a Bayesian Neural Network (BNN) performs in Semantic Scene Completion, where the task is to predict a semantic 3D voxel grid for the Field of View of a single RGBD image. We propose an extended task and evaluate the benefits of the BNN when encountering new classes at inference time. It is shown that the BNN outperforms the deterministic baseline.Papers II-­III are about detection of points, lines and planes defining a Room Layout in an RGB image. Due to the repeated textures and homogeneous colours of indoor surfaces it is not ideal to only use point features for Structure from Motion. The idea is to complement the point features by detecting a Wireframe – a connected set of line segments – which marks the intersection of planes in the Room Layout. Paper II concerns a task for detecting a Semantic Room Wireframe and implements a Neural Network model utilizing a Graph Convolutional Network module. The experiments show that the method is more flexible than previous Room Layout Estimation methods and perform better than previous Wireframe Parsing methods. Paper III takes the task closer to Room Layout Estimation by detecting a connected set of semantic polygons in an RGB image. The end­-to-­end trainable model is a combination of a Wireframe Parsing model and a Heterogeneous Graph Neural Network. We show promising results by outperforming state of the art models for Room Layout Estimation using synthetic Wireframe detections. However, the joint Wireframe and Polygon detector requires further research to compete with the state of the art models.In Paper IV we propose minimal solvers for SfM with parallel cylinders. The problem may be reduced to estimating circles in 2D and the paper contributes with theory for the two­view relative motion and two­-circle relative structure problem. Fast solvers are derived and experiments show good performance in both simulation and on real data.Papers V-­VII cover the task of map merging. That is, given a set of individually optimized point clouds with camera poses from a SfM pipeline, how can the solutions be effectively merged without completely re­solving the Structure from Motion problem? Papers V­-VI introduce an effective method for merging and shows the effectiveness through experiments of real and simulated data. Paper VII considers the matching problem for point clouds and proposes minimal solvers that allows for deformation ofeach point cloud. Experiments show that the method robustly matches point clouds with drift in the SfM solution

    Tracking and Mapping in Medical Computer Vision: A Review

    As computer vision algorithms are becoming more capable, their applications in clinical systems will become more pervasive. These applications include diagnostics such as colonoscopy and bronchoscopy, guiding biopsies and minimally invasive interventions and surgery, automating instrument motion and providing image guidance using pre-operative scans. Many of these applications depend on the specific visual nature of medical scenes and require designing and applying algorithms to perform in this environment. In this review, we provide an update to the field of camera-based tracking and scene mapping in surgery and diagnostics in medical computer vision. We begin with describing our review process, which results in a final list of 515 papers that we cover. We then give a high-level summary of the state of the art and provide relevant background for those who need tracking and mapping for their clinical applications. We then review datasets provided in the field and the clinical needs therein. Then, we delve in depth into the algorithmic side, and summarize recent developments, which should be especially useful for algorithm designers and to those looking to understand the capability of off-the-shelf methods. We focus on algorithms for deformable environments while also reviewing the essential building blocks in rigid tracking and mapping since there is a large amount of crossover in methods. Finally, we discuss the current state of the tracking and mapping methods along with needs for future algorithms, needs for quantification, and the viability of clinical applications in the field. We conclude that new methods need to be designed or combined to support clinical applications in deformable environments, and more focus needs to be put into collecting datasets for training and evaluation.Comment: 31 pages, 17 figure

    Localization in urban environments. A hybrid interval-probabilistic method

    Ensuring safety has become a paramount concern with the increasing autonomy of vehicles and the advent of autonomous driving. One of the most fundamental tasks of increased autonomy is localization, which is essential for safe operation. To quantify safety requirements, the concept of integrity has been introduced in aviation, based on the ability of the system to provide timely and correct alerts when the safe operation of the systems can no longer be guaranteed. Therefore, it is necessary to assess the localization's uncertainty to determine the system's operability. In the literature, probability and set-membership theory are two predominant approaches that provide mathematical tools to assess uncertainty. Probabilistic approaches often provide accurate point-valued results but tend to underestimate the uncertainty. Set-membership approaches reliably estimate the uncertainty but can be overly pessimistic, producing inappropriately large uncertainties and no point-valued results. While underestimating the uncertainty can lead to misleading information and dangerous system failure without warnings, overly pessimistic uncertainty estimates render the system inoperative for practical purposes as warnings are fired more often. This doctoral thesis aims to study the symbiotic relationship between set-membership-based and probabilistic localization approaches and combine them into a unified hybrid localization approach. This approach enables safe operation while not being overly pessimistic regarding the uncertainty estimation. In the scope of this work, a novel Hybrid Probabilistic- and Set-Membership-based Coarse and Refined (HyPaSCoRe) Localization method is introduced. This method localizes a robot in a building map in real-time and considers two types of hybridizations. On the one hand, set-membership approaches are used to robustify and control probabilistic approaches. On the other hand, probabilistic approaches are used to reduce the pessimism of set-membership approaches by augmenting them with further probabilistic constraints. The method consists of three modules - visual odometry, coarse localization, and refined localization. The HyPaSCoRe Localization uses a stereo camera system, a LiDAR sensor, and GNSS data, focusing on localization in urban canyons where GNSS data can be inaccurate. The visual odometry module computes the relative motion of the vehicle. In contrast, the coarse localization module uses set-membership approaches to narrow down the feasible set of poses and provides the set of most likely poses inside the feasible set using a probabilistic approach. The refined localization module further refines the coarse localization result by reducing the pessimism of the uncertainty estimate by incorporating probabilistic constraints into the set-membership approach. The experimental evaluation of the HyPaSCoRe shows that it maintains the integrity of the uncertainty estimation while providing accurate, most likely point-valued solutions in real-time. Introducing this new hybrid localization approach contributes to developing safe and reliable algorithms in the context of autonomous driving
