Parallel based support vector regression for empirical modeling of nonlinear chemical process systems

    Get PDF
In this paper, a support vector regression (SVR) using radial basis function (RBF) kernel is proposed using an integrated parallel linear-and-nonlinear model framework for empirical modeling of nonlinear chemical process systems. Utilizing linear orthonormal basis filters (OBF) model to represent the linear structure, the developed empirical parallel model is tested for its performance under open-loop conditions in a nonlinear continuous stirred-tank reactor simulation case study as well as a highly nonlinear cascaded tank benchmark system. A comparative study between SVR and the parallel OBF-SVR models is then investigated. The results showed that the proposed parallel OBF-SVR model retained the same modelling efficiency as that of the SVR, whilst enhancing the generalization properties to out-of-sample data

Prediction of Spot Price of Iron Ore Based on PSR-WA-LSSVM Combined Model

Aiming at the problems that the existing single time series models are not accurate and robust enough when it comes to forecasting the iron ore prices and the parameters of the traditional LSSVM model are difficult to determine, we propose a combined model based on Phase Space Reconstruction (PSR), wavelet transform and LSSVM (PSR-WA-LSSVM) to tackle these issues. ARIMA model, LSTM model, PSR-LSSVM model, and PSR-WA-LSSVM models were used for contrast simulation to forecast the spot price data of 61.5%PB powder from January 30, 2019, to February 1, 2021, in Ningbo Zhoushan port. The experimental results show that the PSR-WA-LSSVM combination model achieves better prediction results. At the same time, the model has a good performance in the multistep prediction of the iron ore price

Simplex basis function based sparse least squares support vector regression

In this paper, a novel sparse least squares support vector regression algorithm, referred to as LSSVR-SBF, is introduced which uses a new low rank kernel based on simplex basis function, which has a set of nonlinear parameters. It is shown that the proposed model can be represented as a sparse linear regression model based on simplex basis functions. We propose a fast algorithm for least squares support vector regression solution at the cost of O(N) by avoiding direct kernel matrix inversion. An iterative estimation algorithm has been proposed to optimize the nonlinear parameters associated with the simplex basis functions with the aim of minimizing model mean square errors using the gradient descent algorithm. The proposed fast least square solution and the gradient descent algorithm are alternatively applied. Finally it is shown that the model has a dual representation as a piecewise linear model with respect to the system input. Numerical experiments are carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approaches

A hybrid prognostics approach for motorized spindle-tool holder remaining useful life prediction

    Get PDF
The quality and efficiency of high-speed machining are restricted by the matching performance of the motorized spindle-tool holder. In high speed cutting process, the mating surface is subjected to alternating torque, repeated clamping wear and centrifugal force, which results in serious degradation of mating performance. Therefore, for the purpose of the optimum maintenance time, periodic evaluation and prediction of remaining useful life (RUL) should be carried out. Firstly, the mapping model between the current of the motorized spindle and matching performance was extracted, and the degradation characteristics of spindle-tool holder were emphatically analyzed. After the original current is de-noised by an adaptive threshold function, the extent of degradation was identified by the amplitudes of wavelet packet entropy. A hybrid prognostics combining Relevance Vector Machine (RVM) i.e. AI-model with power regression i.e. statistical model was proposed to predict the RUL. Finally, the proposed scheme was verified based on a motorized spindle reliability test platform. The experimental results show that the current signal processing method based on wavelet packet and entropy can reflect the change of the degradation characteristics sensitively. Compared with other two similar models, the hybrid model proposed can accurately predict the RUL. This model is suitable for complex and high reliability equipment when Condition Monitoring (CM) data is scarcer

    Regularized System Identification

This open access book provides a comprehensive treatment of recent developments in kernel-based identification that are of interest to anyone engaged in learning dynamic systems from data. The reader is led step by step into understanding of a novel paradigm that leverages the power of machine learning without losing sight of the system-theoretical principles of black-box identification. The authors’ reformulation of the identification problem in the light of regularization theory not only offers new insight on classical questions, but paves the way to new and powerful algorithms for a variety of linear and nonlinear problems. Regression methods such as regularization networks and support vector machines are the basis of techniques that extend the function-estimation problem to the estimation of dynamic models. Many examples, also from real-world applications, illustrate the comparative advantages of the new nonparametric approach with respect to classic parametric prediction error methods. The challenges it addresses lie at the intersection of several disciplines so Regularized System Identification will be of interest to a variety of researchers and practitioners in the areas of control systems, machine learning, statistics, and data science.
