The Heirs of Avicenna: Philosophy in the Islamic East, 12-13th Centuries

This is the first in a series of sourcebooks charting the reception of Avicenna (Ibn Sīnā, d.1037) in the Islamic East (from Syria to central Asia) in the 12th-13th centuries CE. Avicenna was the dominant philosophical authority in this period, who provoked generations of thinkers to subtle critique, defense, and development of his ideas. The series will translate and analyze hundreds of passages from works by such figures as al-Ghazālī, al-Suhrawardī, Fakhr al-Dīn al-Rāzī, Naṣīr al-Dīn al-Ṭūsī, and many more. This volume focuses especially on issues in metaphysics, dealing with topics like the essence-existence distinction, the problem of universals, free will and determinism, Platonic Forms, good and evil, proofs of God’s existence, and the relationship between philosophy and theology

أحكام نفقة عمودي النسب مع اختلاف في الدين دراسة فقهية مقارنة

يهدف البحث: (أحكام نفقة عمودي النسب مع الاختلاف في الدين: دراسة فقهية مقارنة) إلى محاولة تعريف الأقليات الإسلامية بأحكام الشرع المتعلقة بشؤون الأسرة، والتصدي لرمي الشريعة بالقصور عن معالجتها للقضايا المستجدة، وقد تم تقسيمه إلى مقدمة، وتمهيد، وثلاثة مباحث؛ الأول: أثر اختلاف الدين في نفقة الزوجة، الثاني: أثر اختلاف الدين في نفقة الأصول والفروع، الثالث: أثر اختلاف الدين في نفقة الأقارب، وقد توصلت إلى أنه لا نفقة للزوجة إذا كانت غير كتابية مدة تخلفها عن الإسلام، وأن النفقة باقية للمرأة إذا أسلمت وتخلف الزوج عن الإسلام مدة تخلف الزوج، وأما إذا ارتد الزوج عن الإسلام دون امرأته فتجب نفقة الزوجة المسلمة حتى تنقضي عدتها، أو يقتل الزوج بسبب ردته، وأنه إذا ارتدت الزوجة عن الإسلام دون زوجها سقطت النفقة، وأن النفقة واجبة على الولد لوالديه المباشرين وعدم سقوطها بإسلام أحدهما أو ردته، ولا خلاف في أن اختلاف الدين غير مؤثر في نفقة الأب على ابنه المباشر، كما اتفق الفقهاء على وجوب النفقة عند اتحاد الدين على ابن الابن والجد، وقد اتبعت في هذا البحث المنهج الاستقرائي وذلك بتتبع المسائل التي لها صلة بعنوان البحث, وكذا المنهج التحليلي, لتحليل الآراء الفقهية ومناقشتها وترجيح أحدها على الأُخر

The Renaissance of Shi'i Islam

The renaissance of Shi’i Islam began in the 9th/15th century when the Ismailis experienced the Anjudan revival and Twelver Shi’i traditions were also renewed. This renaissance gained further strength when the Safavids succeeded in establishing a state in the early decades of the 10th/16th century, making Ithna’ashari Shi’i Islam their official religion. The chapters in this open access book represent the most recent scholarship on the intellectual and spiritual life of the age and discuss what prepared the ground for its appearance as well as its achievements. Although the political and artistic developments of the Safavid era of the 10th-12th/16th-18th centuries have been extensively studied, the complexities of the different groups, movements and strands of thought in the renaissance of Shi’i Islam still remain largely unexplored. The major themes that characterised the Shi’i renaissance are explored, including: popular reactions to messianic movements; the development of legal theories and concepts; the investigation of theological and philosophical problems, above all by the ‘School of Isfahan’; Shi’i-Sufi interactions and intra-Shi'i relations; the collection of Shi’i hadith and its application in Shi’i exegesis; and the interplay between political considerations and religious beliefs.
