The official published version can be accessed from the links below - Copyright @ 2013 IEEE.In this paper, the synchronization problem is studied for an array of N identical delayed neutral-type neural networks with Markovian jumping parameters. The coupled networks involve both the mode-dependent discrete-time delays and the mode-dependent unbounded distributed time delays. All the network parameters including the coupling matrix are also dependent on the Markovian jumping mode. By introducing novel Lyapunov-Krasovskii functionals and using some analytical techniques, sufficient conditions are derived to guarantee that the coupled networks are asymptotically synchronized in mean square. The derived sufficient conditions are closely related with the discrete-time delays, the distributed time delays, the mode transition probability, and the coupling structure of the networks. The obtained criteria are given in terms of matrix inequalities that can be efficiently solved by employing the semidefinite program method. Numerical simulations are presented to further demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. This work was supported in part by the Royal Society of the U.K., the National Natural Science Foundation of China under Grants 61074129, 61174136 and 61134009, and the Natural Science Foundation of Jiangsu Province of China under Grants BK2010313 and BK2011598

Delay-dependent criterion for exponential stability analysis of neural networks with time-varying delays

    Get PDF
This note investigates the problem of exponential stability of neural networks with time-varying delays. To derive a less conservative stability condition, a novel augmented Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional (LKF) which includes triple and quadruple-integral terms is employed. In order to reduce the complexity of the stability test, the convex combination method is utilized to derive an improved delay dependent stability criterion in the form of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). The superiority of the proposed approach is demonstrated by two comparative examples

Design and analysis of three nonlinearly activated ZNN models for solving time-varying linear matrix inequalities in finite time

    Get PDF
To obtain the superiority property of solving time-varying linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), three novel finite-time convergence zeroing neural network (FTCZNN) models are designed and analyzed in this paper. First, to make the Matlab toolbox calculation processing more conveniently, the matrix vectorization technique is used to transform matrix-valued FTCZNN models into vector-valued FTCZNN models. Then, considering the importance of nonlinear activation functions on the conventional zeroing neural network (ZNN), the sign-bi-power activation function (AF), the improved sign-bi-power AF and the tunable sign-bi-power AF are explored to establish the FTCZNN models. Theoretical analysis shows that the FTCZNN models not only can accelerate the convergence speed, but also can achieve finite-time convergence. Computer numerical results ulteriorly confirm the effectiveness and advantages of the FTCZNN models for finding the solution set of time-varying LMIs

Open Mathematics is a challenging notion for theoretical modeling, technical analysis, and numerical simulation in physics and mathematics, as well as in many other fields, as highly correlated nonlinear phenomena, evolving over a large range of time scales and length scales, control the underlying systems and processes in their spatiotemporal evolution. Indeed, available data, be they physical, biological, or financial, and technologically complex systems and stochastic systems, such as mechanical or electronic devices, can be managed from the same conceptual approach, both analytically and through computer simulation, using effective nonlinear dynamics methods. The aim of this Special Issue is to highlight papers that show the dynamics, control, optimization and applications of nonlinear systems. This has recently become an increasingly popular subject, with impressive growth concerning applications in engineering, economics, biology, and medicine, and can be considered a veritable contribution to the literature. Original papers relating to the objective presented above are especially welcome subjects. Potential topics include, but are not limited to: Stability analysis of discrete and continuous dynamical systems; Nonlinear dynamics in biological complex systems; Stability and stabilization of stochastic systems; Mathematical models in statistics and probability; Synchronization of oscillators and chaotic systems; Optimization methods of complex systems; Reliability modeling and system optimization; Computation and control over networked systems

A vision-based optical character recognition system for real-time identification of tractors in a port container terminal

Automation has been seen as a promising solution to increase the productivity of modern sea port container terminals. The potential of increase in throughput, work efficiency and reduction of labor cost have lured stick holders to strive for the introduction of automation in the overall terminal operation. A specific container handling process that is readily amenable to automation is the deployment and control of gantry cranes in the container yard of a container terminal where typical operations of truck identification, loading and unloading containers, and job management are primarily performed manually in a typical terminal. To facilitate the overall automation of the gantry crane operation, we devised an approach for the real-time identification of tractors through the recognition of the corresponding number plates that are located on top of the tractor cabin. With this crucial piece of information, remote or automated yard operations can then be performed. A machine vision-based system is introduced whereby these number plates are read and identified in real-time while the tractors are operating in the terminal. In this paper, we present the design and implementation of the system and highlight the major difficulties encountered including the recognition of character information printed on the number plates due to poor image integrity. Working solutions are proposed to address these problems which are incorporated in the overall identification system.postprin
