This is the post-print version of the paper. The official published version can be accessed from the link below - Copyright @ 2012 IEEEThis paper investigates the robust sliding mode control (SMC) problem for a class of uncertain nonlinear stochastic systems with mixed time delays. Both the sectorlike nonlinearities and the norm-bounded uncertainties enter into the system in random ways, and such randomly occurring uncertainties and randomly occurring nonlinearities obey certain mutually uncorrelated Bernoulli distributed white noise sequences. The mixed time delays consist of both the discrete and the distributed delays. The time-varying delays are allowed in state. By employing the idea of delay fractioning and constructing a new Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional, sufficient conditions are established to ensure the stability of the system dynamics in the specified sliding surface by solving a certain semidefinite programming problem. A full-state feedback SMC law is designed to guarantee the reaching condition. A simulation example is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed SMC scheme. This work was supported in part by the National Natural Science Foundation of China under Grants 61028008, 60825303 and 60834003, National 973 Project under Grant 2009CB320600, the Fok Ying Tung Education Fund under Grant 111064, the Special Fund for the Author of National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation of China under Grant 2007B4, the Key Laboratory of Integrated Automation for the Process Industry Northeastern University) from the Ministry of Education of China, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) of the U.K. under Grant GR/S27658/01, the Royal Society of the U.K., and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of Germany

Modelling and Fast Terminal Sliding Mode Control for Mirror-based Pointing Systems

In this paper, we present a new discrete-time Fast Terminal Sliding Mode (FTSM) controller for mirror-based pointing systems. We first derive the decoupled model of those systems and then estimate the parameters using a nonlinear least-square identification method. Based on the derived model, we design a FTSM sliding manifold in the continuous domain. We then exploit the Euler discretization on the designed FTSM sliding surfaces to synthesize a discrete-time controller. Furthermore, we improve the transient dynamics of the sliding surface by adding a linear term. Finally, we prove the stability of the proposed controller based on the Sarpturk reaching condition. Extensive simulations, followed by comparisons with the Terminal Sliding Mode (TSM) and Model Predictive Control (MPC) have been carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. A comparative study with data obtained from a real-time experiment was also conducted. The results indicate the advantage of the proposed method over the other techniques.Comment: In Proceedings of the 15th International Conference on Control, Automation, Robotics and Vision (ICARCV 2018

H ∞  sliding mode observer design for a class of nonlinear discrete time-delay systems: A delay-fractioning approach

    Get PDF
Copyright @ 2012 John Wiley & SonsIn this paper, the H ∞  sliding mode observer (SMO) design problem is investigated for a class of nonlinear discrete time-delay systems. The nonlinear descriptions quantify the maximum possible derivations from a linear model, and the system states are allowed to be immeasurable. Attention is focused on the design of a discrete-time SMO such that the asymptotic stability as well as the H ∞  performance requirement of the error dynamics can be guaranteed in the presence of nonlinearities, time delay and external disturbances. Firstly, a discrete-time discontinuous switched term is proposed to make sure that the reaching condition holds. Then, by constructing a new Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional based on the idea of ‘delay fractioning’ and by introducing some appropriate free-weighting matrices, a sufficient condition is established to guarantee the desired performance of the error dynamics in the specified sliding mode surface by solving a minimization problem. Finally, an illustrative example is given to show the effectiveness of the designed SMO design scheme

Analysis of explicit and implicit discrete-time equivalent-control based sliding mode controllers

Different time-discretization methods for equivalent-control based sliding mode control (ECB-SMC) are presented. A new discrete-time sliding mode control scheme is proposed for linear time-invariant (LTI) systems. It is error-free in the discretization of the equivalent part of the control input. Results from simulations using the various discretized SMC schemes are shown, with and without perturbations. They illustrate the different behaviours that can be observed. Stability results for the proposed scheme are derived

Circle grid fractal plate as a turbulent generator for premixed flame: an overview

    Get PDF
This review paper focuses to ascertain a new approach in turbulence generation on the structure of premixed flames and external combustion using a fractal grid pattern. This review paper discusses the relationship between fractal pattern and turbulence flow. Many researchers have explored the fractal pattern as a new concept of turbulence generators, but researchers rarely study fractal turbulence generators on the structure premixed flame. The turbulent flow field characteristics have been studied tand investigated in a premixed combustion application. In terms of turbulence intensity, most researchers used fractal grid that can be tailored so that they can design the characteristic needed in premixed flame. This approach makes it extremely difficult to determine the exact turbulent burning velocity on the velocity fluctuation of the flow. The decision to carry out additional research on the effect circle grid fractal plate as a turbulent generator for premixed flame should depends on the blockage ratio and fractal pattern of the grid. 1

The network-induced phenomena under consideration mainly include missing measurements, fading measurements, signal quantization, probabilistic sensor delays, sensor saturations, randomly occurring nonlinearities, and randomly occurring uncertainties. With respect to these network-induced phenomena, the developments on filtering and sliding mode design problems are systematically reviewed. In particular, concerning the network-induced phenomena, some recent results on the recursive filtering for time-varying nonlinear stochastic systems and sliding mode design for time-invariant nonlinear stochastic systems are given, respectively. Finally, conclusions are proposed and some potential future research works are pointed out. This work was supported in part by the National Natural Science Foundation of China under Grant nos. 61134009, 61329301, 61333012, 61374127 and 11301118, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) of the UK under Grant no. Multirate input based quasi-sliding mode control for permanent magnet synchronous motor

    Get PDF
Permanent magnet synchronous motor field oriented control system often uses dual-loop (speed and current) cascade structure, and the dynamics speeds of the two loops mismatch. The motor’s mechanical and electrical subsystems have the typical multirate characteristics. Based on the multirate control theory, this paper proposes multirate input quasi-sliding mode algorithm for the speed control loop. Under the situation of the output data loss, the proposed algorithm builds the extended input vector with the output prediction information. Due to the extended input vector, the proposed algorithm reduces the system steady state chatterring, and then improves the performance of the whole system. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm

Discrete‐Time Sliding Mode Control with Outputs of Relative Degree More than One

    Get PDF
This work deals with sliding mode control of discrete‐time systems where the outputs are defined or chosen to be of relative degrees more than one. The analysis brings forward important advancements in the direction of discrete‐time sliding mode control, such as improved robustness and performance of the system. It is proved that the ultimate band about the sliding surface could be greatly reduced by the choice of higher relative degree outputs, thus increasing the robustness of the system. Moreover, finite‐time stability in absence of uncertainties is proved for such a choice of higher relative degree output. In presence of uncertainties, the system states become finite time ultimately bounded in nature. The work presents in some detail the case with relative degree two outputs, deducing switching and non‐switching reaching laws for the same, while for arbitrary relative degree outputs, it shows a general formalisation of a control structure specific for a certain type of linear systems
