These failures are described by a model that considers possible outages or partial failures in every single actuator of each decentralised controller.     Disturbance-observer-based robust control for time delay uncertain systems

    A robust control scheme is proposed for a class of systems with uncertainty and time delay based on disturbance observer technique. A disturbance observer is developed to estimate the disturbance generated by an exogenous system, and the design parameters of the disturbance observer are determined by solving linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Based on the output of the disturbance observer, a robust control scheme is proposed for the time delay uncertain system. The disturbance-observer-based robust controller is combined of two parts: one is a linear feedback controller designed using LMIs and the other is a compensatory controller designed with the output of the disturbance observer. By choosing an appropriate Lyapunov function candidate, the stability of the closed-loop system is proved. Finally, simulation example is presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme

    The design of the dynamic output feedback H∞ control for uncertain interconnected systems of neutral type is investigated. In the framework of Lyapunov stability theory, a mathematical technique dealing with the nonlinearity on certain matrix variables is developed to obtain the solvability conditions for the anticipated controller. Based on the corresponding LMIs, the anticipated gains for dynamic output feedback can be achieved by solving some algebraic equations. Also, the norm of the transfer function from the disturbance input to the controlled output is less than the given index. A numerical example and the simulation results are given to show the effectiveness of the proposed method

    Stability analysis and stabilization for discrete-time fuzzy systems with time-varying delay

    This paper is concerned with the problems of stability analysis and stabilization for discrete-time Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy systems with time-varying state delay. By constructing a new fuzzy Lyapunov function and by making use of novel techniques, an improved delay-dependent stability condition is obtained, which is dependent on the lower and upper delay bounds. The merit of the proposed stability condition lies in its reduced conservatism, which is achieved by avoiding the utilization of some bounding inequalities for the cross products between two vectors. Then, delay-dependent stabilization approach based on a parallel distributed compensation scheme is developed for both state feedback and observer-based output feedback cases. The proposed stability and stabilization conditions are formulated in terms of linear matrix inequalities, which can be solved efficiently by using existing optimization techniques. Two illustrative examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the results proposed in this paper. © 2008 IEEE.published_or_final_versio

    Design and implementation of a dual-input single-output photovoltaic converter

    In many solar inverters, a dc/dc converter is mainly located between the solar arrays and the inverter. This study presents an enhanced maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm for photovoltaic (PV) systems that drives solar array voltages to track a reference value and decreases fluctuations and oscillations in PV voltage. Different from the previously presented methods, a novel MPPT method is proposed that ensures tracking accuracy by considering output voltage in addition to input voltage and currents. The proposed method detects dI/dV variations, compares the output voltage with the desired reference to shift operation mode and refreshes step size. The digital filtering, enhanced PI, and perturb-and-observe (P&O) tracking features of the proposed MPPT method make it robust to mitigate source fluctuations and sensitivity to partial shading based oscillations. In order to validate the success of the proposed method, a test rig has been installed with dual boost converters. The performance improvements have been verified by both simulation and experimental results that are compared to InCon and P&O MPPT methods. It is also confirmed by experimental results that the proposed MPPT method provides robust control capability in terms of tracking the reference voltage and rejecting the effects of various shading situations on solar arrays

    Human-Computer Interaction for BCI Games: Usability and User Experience

    Brain-computer interfaces (BCI) come with a lot of issues, such as delays, bad recognition, long training times, and cumbersome hardware. Gamers are a large potential target group for this new interaction modality, but why would healthy subjects want to use it? BCI provides a combination of information and features that no other input modality can offer. But for general acceptance of this technology, usability and user experience will need to be taken into account when designing such systems. This paper discusses the consequences of applying knowledge from Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) to the design of BCI for games. The integration of HCI with BCI is illustrated by research examples and showcases, intended to take this promising technology out of the lab. Future research needs to move beyond feasibility tests, to prove that BCI is also applicable in realistic, real-world settings
