    Near-Optimal Zero Correlation Zone Sequence Sets from Paraunitary Matrices

    Zero correlation zone (ZCZ) sequence sets play an important role in interference-free quasi-synchronous code-division multiple access communications. In this paper, for the first time, we investigate the periodic correlation properties of polyphase sequences obtained from paraunitary (PU) matrices, which shows the inherent relationship between PU matrix and ZCZ sequence sets. Our investigation suggests that any arbitrary PU matrix can produce ZCZ sequence sets by controlling its expanded form. The key idea is to impose certain restrictions on the expanded forms of the PU matrices to enable precise computation of the periodic correlation functions of the constructed sequences. We show that our proposed construction leads to near-optimal ZCZ sequence sets with regard to the ZCZ set size upper bound

    A listing of the Earth Observatory Satellite (EOS) candidate missions is presented for use as a baseline in describing the EOS payloads. The missions are identified in terms of first, second, and third generation payloads. The specific applications of the EOS satellites are defined. The subjects considered are: (1) orbit analysis, (2) space shuttle interfaces, (3) thematic mapping subsystem, (4) high resolution pointable imager subsystem, (5) the data collection system, (6) the synthetic aperture radar, (7) the passive multichannel microwave radiometer, and (8) the wideband communications and handling equipment. Also included are standards activity at JPL for space data and information systems and reimbursable DSN work performed for other space agencies through NASA.     In the study of the Multiple Beam Antenna/Switch for the space to ground link (SGL) uplink and downlink services, several issues related to system engineering, antenna, transmit/receive, and switch systems were addressed and the results are provided. Bandwidth allocation at Ku band is inadequate to serve the data rate requirements for the forward and return services. Rain and depolarization effects at EHF, especially at Ka band, pose a significant threat to the link availabilities at heavy rain areas. Hardware induced effects such as the nonlinear characteristics of the power amplifier may necessitate the use of linearizers and limiters. It is also important to identify the components that are susceptible to the space radiation effects and shield or redesign them with rad-hard technologies for meeting the requirements of the space environment
