Neurofuzzy controller based full vehicle nonlinear active suspension systems
To design a robust controller for active suspension systems is very important for guaranteeing the riding comfort for passengers and road handling quality for a vehicle. In this thesis, the mathematical model of full vehicle nonlinear active suspension systems with hydraulic actuators is derived to take into account all the motions of the vehicle and the nonlinearity behaviours of the active suspension system and hydraulic actuators. Four robust control types are designed and the comparisons among the robustness of
those controllers against different disturbance types are investigated to select the best controller among them. The MATLAB SIMULINK toolboxes are used to simulate the proposed controllers with the controlled model and to display the responses of the controlled model under different types of disturbance. The results show that the neurofuzzy controller is more effective and robust than the other controller types. The implementation of the neurofuzzy controller using FPGA boards has been investigated in this work. The Xilinx ISE program is employed to synthesis the VHDL codes that describe the operation of the neurofuzzy controller and to generate the configuration file used to program the FPGA. The ModelSim program is used to simulate the operation of the VHDL codes and to obtain the expected output data of the FPGA boards. To confirm that FPGA the board used as the neurofuzzy controller system operated as expected, a MATLAB script file is used to compare the set of data obtained from the ModelSim program and the set of data obtained from the MATLAB SIMULINK model. The results show that the FPGA board is effective to be used as a neurofuzzy controller for full vehicle nonlinear active suspension systems. The active suspension system has a great performance for vibration isolation. However the main drawback of the active suspension is that it is high energy consumptive. Therefore, to use this suspension system in the proposed model, this drawback should be solved. Electromagnetic actuators are used to convert the vibration energy that arises from the rough road to useful electrical energy to reduce the energy consumption by the active suspension systems. The results show that the electromagnetic devices act as a power generator, i.e. the vibration energy excited by the rough road surface has been converted to a useful electrical energy supply for the actuators. Furthermore, when the nonlinear damper models are replaced by the electromagnetic actuators, riding comfort and the road handling quality are improved. As a result, two targets have been achieved by using hydraulic actuators with electromagnetic suspension systems: increasing fuel economy and improving the vehicle performance

An Adaptive Fuzzy Logic System for the Compensation of Nonlinear Distortion in Wireless Power Amplifiers
Computational intelligent systems are becoming an increasingly attractive solution for power amplifier (PA) behavioural modelling, due to their excellent approximation capability. This paper utilizes an adaptive fuzzy logic system (AFLS) for the modelling of the highly nonlinear MIMIX CFH2162-P3 PA. Moreover, PA’s inverse model based also on AFLS has been developed in order to act as a pre-distorter unit. Driving an LTE 1.4 MHz 64 QAM signal at 880 MHz as centre frequency at PA’s input, very good modelling performance was achieved, for both PA’s forward and inverse dynamics. A comparative study of AFLS and neural networks (NN) has been carried out to establish AFLS as an effective, robust, and easy-to-implement baseband model, which is suitable for inverse modelling of PAs and capable to be used as an effective digital pre-distorter. Pre-distortion system based on AFLS, achieved distortion suppression of 84.2%, compared to the 48.4% gained using the NN-based equivalent schem
A wavelet-based CMAC for enhanced multidimensional learning
The CMAC (Cerebellar Model Articulation Controller) neural network has been successfully used in control systems and other applications for many years. The network structure is modular and associative, allowing for rapid learning convergence with an ease of implementation in either hardware or software. The rate of convergence of the network is determined largely by the choice of the receptive field shape and the generalization parameter. This research contains a rigorous analysis of the rate of convergence with the standard CMAC, as well as the rate of convergence of networks using other receptive field shape. The effects of decimation from state-space to weight space are examined in detail. This analysis shows CMAC to be an adaptive lowpass filter, where the filter dynamics are governed by the generalization parameter. A more general CMAC is derived using wavelet-based receptive fields and a controllable decimation scheme, that is capable of convergence at any frequency within the Nyquist limits. The flexible decimation structure facilitates the optimization of computation for complex multidimensional problems. The stability of the wavelet-based CMAC is also examined
Robust detection of incipient faults in VSI-fed induction motors using quality control charts.
A considerable amount of papers have been published in recent years proposing supervised classifiers to diagnose the health of a machine. The usual procedure with these classifiers is to train them using data acquired through controlled experiments, expecting them to perform well on new data, classifying correctly the condition of a motor. But, obviously, the new motor to be diagnosed cannot be the same that has been used during the training process; it may be a motor with different characteristics and fed from a completely different source. These different conditions between the training process and the testing one can deeply influence the diagnosis. To avoid these drawbacks, in this paper a new method is proposed which is based on robust statistical techniques applied in Quality Control applications. The proposed method is based on the online diagnosis of the operating motor and can detect deviations from the normal operational conditions. A robust approach has been implemented using high-breakdown statistical techniques which can reliably detect anomalous data that often cause an unexpected overestimation of the data variability, reducing the ability of standard procedures to detect faulty conditions in earlier stages. A case study is presented to prove the validity of the proposed approach. Motors of different characteristics, fed from the power line and several different inverters, are tested. Three different fault conditions are provoked, broken bar, a faulty bearing and mixed eccentricity. Experimental results prove that the proposed approach can detect incipient faults
Energy and Area Efficient Machine Learning Architectures using Spin-Based Neurons
Recently, spintronic devices with low energy barrier nanomagnets such as spin orbit torque-Magnetic Tunnel Junctions (SOT-MTJs) and embedded magnetoresistive random access memory (MRAM) devices are being leveraged as a natural building block to provide probabilistic sigmoidal activation functions for RBMs. In this dissertation research, we use the Probabilistic Inference Network Simulator (PIN-Sim) to realize a circuit-level implementation of deep belief networks (DBNs) using memristive crossbars as weighted connections and embedded MRAM-based neurons as activation functions. Herein, a probabilistic interpolation recoder (PIR) circuit is developed for DBNs with probabilistic spin logic (p-bit)-based neurons to interpolate the probabilistic output of the neurons in the last hidden layer which are representing different output classes. Moreover, the impact of reducing the Magnetic Tunnel Junction\u27s (MTJ\u27s) energy barrier is assessed and optimized for the resulting stochasticity present in the learning system. In p-bit based DBNs, different defects such as variation of the nanomagnet thickness can undermine functionality by decreasing the fluctuation speed of the p-bit realized using a nanomagnet. A method is developed and refined to control the fluctuation frequency of the output of a p-bit device by employing a feedback mechanism. The feedback can alleviate this process variation sensitivity of p-bit based DBNs. This compact and low complexity method which is presented by introducing the self-compensating circuit can alleviate the influences of process variation in fabrication and practical implementation. Furthermore, this research presents an innovative image recognition technique for MNIST dataset on the basis of p-bit-based DBNs and TSK rule-based fuzzy systems. The proposed DBN-fuzzy system is introduced to benefit from low energy and area consumption of p-bit-based DBNs and high accuracy of TSK rule-based fuzzy systems. This system initially recognizes the top results through the p-bit-based DBN and then, the fuzzy system is employed to attain the top-1 recognition results from the obtained top outputs. Simulation results exhibit that a DBN-Fuzzy neural network not only has lower energy and area consumption than bigger DBN topologies while also achieving higher accuracy
