    Higher Order Sliding Mode Control of MIMO Induction Motors: A New Adaptive Approach

    In this paper the objective is to force the outputs of nonlinear nonaffine multi-input multi-output (MIMO) systems to track those of a linear system with the desired properties. The approach is based on designing higher order sliding mode controller (HOSMC) with the definition of a new proportional-integral (PI) sliding surface. To this end, a linear state feedback with an adaptive switching gain (ASG) is applied to the nonlinear MIMO systems. Therefore, the switching gain can increase or decrease based on the system conditions. Then, the chattering is completely removed using a combination of HOSMC and ASG. Moreover, the proposed procedure is independent from the upper bound of the matched uncertainty, which is in the direction of system inputs. The finite time convergence to the sliding surface is also proved, which provides an invariance property in finite time. Note that invariance is the most important property of SMC.     Synchronization and antisynchronization protocol design of chaotic nonlinear gyros: an adaptive integral sliding mode approach

    A novel control protocol design, via integral sliding mode control with parameter update laws, for synchronization and desynchronization of a chaotic nonlinear gyro with unknown parameters is the focus of this work. The error dynamics of the actual system are substructured into nominal and uncertain parts to employ adaptive integral sliding mode (AISM) control. The uncertain parameters are estimated via devised adaptive laws. Then the disagreement dynamics are guided to origin via AISM control. The stabilizing controller is also designed in terms of nominal control along with a compensating component. The control and the parameter update laws are constructed to ensure the strictly negative derivative of a Lyapunov function. Graphical results related to synchronization, desynchronization, and chaos suppression are displayed to demonstrate the potential of the proposed control

    Prescribed performance control of underactuated surface vessels' trajectory using a neural network and integral time-delay sliding mode

    summary:To tackle the underactuated surface vessel (USV) trajectory tracking challenge with input delays and composite disturbances, an integral time-delay sliding mode controller based on backstepping is discussed. First, the law of virtual velocity control is established by coordinate transformation and the position error is caused to converge utilizing the performance function. At the same time, based on the estimation of velocity vector by the high-gain observer (HGO), radial basis function (RBF) neural network is applied to compensate for both the uncertainty of model parameters and external disturbances. The longitudinal and heading control laws are presented in combination with the integral time-delay sliding mode control. Then, on the basis of Lyapunov - Krasovskii functional and stability proof, virtual velocity error is guaranteed to converge to 0 in finite time. Finally, the outcomes of the numerical simulation demonstrate the reliability and efficiency of the proposed approach

    Backstepping control with fixed-time prescribed performance for fixed wing UAV under model uncertainties and external disturbances

    In this paper, a novel backstepping control scheme with fixed-time prescribed performance is proposed for the longitudinal model of fixed wing UAV subject to model uncertainties and external disturbances. The novel performance function with arbitrarily preassigned fixed-time convergence property is developed, which imposes priori performance envelops on both altitude and airspeed tracking errors. By using error transformed technology, the constrained fixed-time performance envelops are changed into unconstrained equivalent errors. Based on modified error compensation mechanism, a novel backstepping approach is proposed to guarantee altitude tracking equivalent error converges to the specified small neighborhood and presents excellent robustness against model uncertainties and external disturbances, and airspeed controller with fixed-time prescribed performance is designed. The proposed methodology guarantees the transient and steady-state performance of altitude and airspeed tracking errors within constrained fixed-time performance envelops in spite of lumped disturbances. Finally, numerical simulations are used to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control schem

    Development of U-model enhanced nonlinear dynamic control systems —Framework, algorithms and validation

    This study aims to develop the classical model-based U-control design framework to enhance its robustness and reduce its dependence on model accuracy. By absorbing the design concepts of other advanced control algorithms, firstly, based on the discrete-time U-control algorithm, a continuous-time (CT) U-model based dynamic inversion algorithm is proposed. Then the CT U-control system design procedures are presented and explained step by step with numerical and simulation demonstrations of the linear and nonlinear U-control system design examples. Secondly, the U-control algorithm develops two mainstream nonlinear robust control algorithms, disturbances suppression and disturbances compensation, while maintaining its system dynamic cancellation characteristics, including two-degree-of-freedom U-model-based internal model control (UTDF-IMC), Disturbance observer-based U-control (DOBUC), sliding mode enhanced U-control (U-SMC) and U-model based double sliding mode control (UDSMC) algorithms. At the same time this study first developed and applied the U-control method to a practical industry application: robust quadrotor trajectory tracking control. The proposed UDSMC method and multiple-input and multiple-output extended-state-observer (MIMO-ESO) established the quadrotor flight control system. The difficulties associated with quadrotor velocity measurement disturbances and uncertain aerodynamics are successfully addressed in this control design. A rigorous theoretical analysis has been carried out to determine whether the proposed control system can achieve stable trajectory tracking performance, and a comparative real-time experimental study has also been carried out to verify the better effectiveness of the proposed control system than the classical SMC and built-in PID control system. This study is clearly novel as the methods and experiments it proposed have not been researched before

    Performances comparison between ultra-local model control, integral iliding mode control and PID control for a coupled tanks system

    This paper deals with the comparison of robust control approaches for the level water control of coupled tanks system. A new ultra-local model control (ULMC) approach leading to adaptive controller is proposed. The parameter identification of the ultra-local model is based on the algebraic derivation techniques. The main advantages of this control strategy are its simplicity and robustness. A comparison study with the integral sliding mode control (ISMC) approach is carried out. The perfect knowledge of the output variable degree, which is a standard assumption for sliding modes, is assumed here. The comparison of the simulation results for the proposed adaptive controller with the ISMC controller and the classical PID controller has a better performances in the presence of external perturbations and parameter uncertainties
