    Adaptive neural network control of a robotic manipulator with unknown backlash-like hysteresis

    This study proposes an adaptive neural network controller for a 3-DOF robotic manipulator that is subject to backlashlike hysteresis and friction. Two neural networks are used to approximate the dynamics and the hysteresis non-linearity. A neural network, which utilises a radial basis function approximates the robot's dynamics. The other neural network, which employs a hyperbolic tangent activation function, is used to approximate the unknown backlash-like hysteresis. The authors also consider two cases: full state and output feedback control. For output feedback, where system states are unknown, a high gain observer is employed to estimate the states. The proposed controllers ensure the boundedness of the control signals. Simulations are also performed to show the effectiveness of the controllers

    Adaptive fuzzy control for coordinated multiple robots with constraint using impedance learning

    In this paper, we investigate fuzzy neural network (FNN) control using impedance learning for coordinated multiple constrained robots carrying a common object in the presence of the unknown robotic dynamics and the unknown environment with which the robot comes into contact. First, an FNN learning algorithm is developed to identify the unknown plant model. Second, impedance learning is introduced to regulate the control input in order to improve the environment-robot interaction, and the robot can track the desired trajectory generated by impedance learning. Third, in light of the condition requiring the robot to move in a finite space or to move at a limited velocity in a finite space, the algorithm based on the position constraint and the velocity constraint are proposed, respectively. To guarantee the position constraint and the velocity constraint, an integral barrier Lyapunov function is introduced to avoid the violation of the constraint. According to Lyapunov's stability theory, it can be proved that the tracking errors are uniformly bounded ultimately. At last, some simulation examples are carried out to verify the effectiveness of the designed control

    This article involves the adaptive inverse control of a coupled vessel-riser system with input backlash and system uncertainties. By introducing an adaptive inverse dynamics of backlash, the backlash control input is divided into a mismatch error and an expected control command, and then a novel adaptive inverse control strategy is established to eliminate vibration, tackle backlash, and compensate for system uncertainties. The bounded stability of the controlled system is analyzed and demonstrated by exploiting the Lyapunov’s criterion. The simulation comparison experiments are finally presented to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the control algorithm

    Robust Adaptive Controls of a Vehicle Seat Suspension System

    This work proposes two novel adaptive fuzzy controllers and applies them to vibration control of a vehicle seat suspension system subjected to severe road profiles. The first adaptive controller is designed by considering prescribed performance of the sliding surface and combined with adaptation laws so that robust stability is guaranteed in the presence of external disturbances. As for the second adaptive controller, both the H-infinity controller and sliding mode controller are combined using inversely fuzzified values of the fuzzy model. In order to evaluate control performances of the proposed two adaptive controllers, a semi-active vehicle suspension system installed with a magneto-rheological (MR) damper is adopted. After determining control gains, two controllers are applied to the system and vibration control performances such as displacement at the driver’s position are evaluated and presented in time domain. In this work, to demonstrate the control robustness two severe road profiles of regular bump and random step wave are imposed as external disturbances. It is shown that both adaptive controllers can enhance ride comfort of the driver by reducing the displacement and acceleration at the seat position. This excellent performance is achieved from each benefit of each adaptive controller; accurate tracking performance of the first controller and fast convergence time of the second controller
