    Vector control for a bearingless induction motor based on nonsingular terminal sliding mode structure

    © 2017 IEEE. To improve the performance of the bearingless induction motor (BIM) under disturbances, a nonsingular fast terminal sliding mode control (NFTSMC) strategy is proposed. The sliding mode surface is designed as a combination of linear sliding mode and nonsingular terminal sliding mode. Besides, considering the power function of the state variables, which make the approaching speed correlate with the state variables, so as to improve convergence performance of the linear sliding mode and solve the singularity of terminal sliding mode. Meanwhile, current signal and radial force are extracted by the electromagnetic torque and the equation of levitation force. Therefore, the convergence speed of system can be accelerated during the whole process, which contributes to chattering-free operating. The simulation and experiment results indicate that the proposed method can not only track the given value of the speed and radial displacement quickly, but also improve the operation quality and enhance the system robustness

    Nonsingular terminal sliding mode control for the speed regulation of permanent magnet synchronous motor with parameter uncertainties

    The drive performance of permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) can be deteriorated due to various disturbances. In this paper, the problem of speed control for a PMSM system with parameter uncertainties is investigated. A new control algorithm based on nonsingular terminal sliding mode control (NTSMC) is proposed, where the controller is developed for speed regulation. Compared with conventional strategies, this new controller provides improved performance for speed regulation of PMSM when subject to parameter uncertainties, in that it achieves fast dynamic response and strong robustness. Simulation studies are conducted to verify the effectiveness of this proposed method

    Synchronous control of double-containers for overhead crane

    The development and wide application of double spreaders overhead cranes have effectively improved the loading and unloading efficiency of the container terminals. However, due to the nonlinear time-varying characteristics and parameter perturbation of the lifting device of the double spreaders, the difficulty of synchronous and coordinated control of the double spreader overhead crane is increased. In order to solve the problem of synchronous control of double spreaders overhead cranes, this work establishes the mathematical model of the double spreaders overhead crane and proposes two main methods. The controller based on the fuzzy sliding mode method is established. Fuzzy logic control can effective estimate the parameters of the system, reduce the chattering of sliding mode control, and improve the performance of its control. Mean deviation coupling synchronization control combined with sliding mode control can effectively control the speed error between the two spreaders, so that they can keep working synchronously. The other controller is established which use fast non-singular terminal sliding mode control to ensure that the system can converge in a finite time. The combination of terminal sliding mode control and super twisting algorithm can enhance the stability of the system.O desenvolvimento e a vasta aplicação de pontes rolantes de duplo espalhamento tem melhorado a eficiência de carga e descarga dos terminais de contentores. Com o objetivo de resolver o problema do controlo síncrono das pontes rolantes de duplo espalhamento, este projeto usa o modelo matemático do guindaste de dupla propagação e propõe dois métodos de resolução. O controlo baseado no método do modo deslizante difuso. O controlo lógico difuso pode estimar eficazmente os parâmetros do sistema, reduzir a vibração do controlo do modo deslizante e melhorar o seu desempenho. O control de sincronização do acoplamento do desvio médio, combinado com o control do modo deslizante que pode controlar eficazmente o erro de velocidade entre os dois espalhadores, para que o seu trabalho possa continuar de forma síncrona. O outro controlador usa um controlo rápido e não singular do modo de deslizamento do terminal para garantir que o sistema possa convergir num tempo limitado. A combinação do control no modo deslizante do terminal e do algoritmo de super rotação pode melhorar a estabilidade do sistema

    Intelligent nonsingular terminal sliding-mode control via perturbed fuzzy neural network

    [[abstract]]In this paper, an intelligent nonsingular terminal sliding-mode control (INTSMC) system, which is composed of a terminal neural controller and a robust compensator, is proposed for an unknown nonlinear system. The terminal neural controller including a perturbed fuzzy neural network (PFNN) is the main controller and the robust compensator is designed to eliminate the effect of the approximation error introduced by the PFNN upon the system stability. The PFNN is used to approximate an unknown nonlinear term of the system dynamics and perturbed asymmetric membership functions are used to handle rule uncertainties when it is hard to exactly determine the grade of membership functions. In additional, Lyapunov stability theory is used to discuss the parameter learning and system stability of the INTSMC system. Finally, the proposed INTSMC system is applied to an inverted pendulum and a voice coil motor actuator. The simulation and experimental results show that the proposed INTSMC system can achieve favorable tracking performance and is robust against parameter variations in the plant

    Higher Order Sliding Mode Control of MIMO Induction Motors: A New Adaptive Approach

    In this paper the objective is to force the outputs of nonlinear nonaffine multi-input multi-output (MIMO) systems to track those of a linear system with the desired properties. The approach is based on designing higher order sliding mode controller (HOSMC) with the definition of a new proportional-integral (PI) sliding surface. To this end, a linear state feedback with an adaptive switching gain (ASG) is applied to the nonlinear MIMO systems. Therefore, the switching gain can increase or decrease based on the system conditions. Then, the chattering is completely removed using a combination of HOSMC and ASG. Moreover, the proposed procedure is independent from the upper bound of the matched uncertainty, which is in the direction of system inputs. The finite time convergence to the sliding surface is also proved, which provides an invariance property in finite time. Note that invariance is the most important property of SMC.     This paper presents a nonlinear sliding mode control (SMC) scheme with a variable damping ratio for interior permanent magnet synchronous motors (IPMSMs). First, a nonlinear sliding surface whose parameters change continuously with time is designed. Actually, the proposed SMC has the ability to reduce the settling time without an overshoot by giving a low damping ratio at the initial time and a high damping ratio as the output reaches the desired setpoint. At the same time, it enables a fast convergence in finite time and eliminates the singularity problem with the upper bound of an uncertain term, which cannot be measured in practice, by using a simple adaptation law. To improve the efficiency of a system in the constant torque region, the control system incorporates the maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) algorithm. The stability of the nonlinear sliding surface is guaranteed by Lyapunov stability theory. Moreover, a simple sliding mode observer is used to estimate the load torque and system uncertainties. The effectiveness of the proposed nonlinear SMC scheme is verified using comparative experimental results of the linear SMC scheme when the speed reference and load torque change under system uncertainties. From these experimental results, the proposed nonlinear SMC method reveals a faster transient response, smaller steady-state speed error, and less sensitivity to system uncertainties than the linear SMC metho

    PSO BASED TAKAGI-SUGENO FUZZY PID CONTROLLER DESIGN FOR SPEED CONTROL OF PERMANENT MAGNET SYNCHRONOUS MOTOR

    A permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is one kind of popular motor. They are utilized in industrial applications because their abilities included operation at a constant speed, no need for an excitation current, no rotor losses, and small size. In the following paper, a fuzzy evolutionary algorithm is combined with a proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller to control the speed of a PMSM. In this structure, to overcome the PMSM challenges, including nonlinear nature, cross-coupling, air gap flux, and cogging torque in operation, a Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy logic-PID (TSFL-PID) controller is designed. Additionally, the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is developed to optimize the membership functions' parameters and rule bases of the fuzzy logic PID controller. For evaluating the proposed controller's performance, the genetic algorithm (GA), as another evolutionary algorithm, is incorporated into the fuzzy PID controller. The results of the speed control of PMSM are compared. The obtained results demonstrate that although both controllers have excellent performance; however, the PSO based TSFL-PID controller indicates more superiority

    Direct thrust force control of primary permanent magnet linear motor based on improved extended state observer and model-free adaptive predictive control

    A model-free adaptive predictive control algorithm based on an improved extended state observer (IESO) is proposed to solve the problem that the primary permanent magnet linear motor is susceptible to time-varying parameters and unknown disturbances. Firstly, a model-free adaptive control algorithm based on compact format is designed to achieve high control precision of the system and reduce thrust fluctuation, only through the input/output data of the system. Because the traditional model-free adaptive control is too sensitive to the internal parameters of the controller, a combination of model-free adaptive control and predictive control is further developed. By predicting the data for a future time in advance, the sensitivity to the internal parameters of the controller is reduced and the control performance is further improved. Since the load change and other nonlinear disturbances in practical applications have a great impact on the control effect of the system, an improved extended state observer is further used to compensate for the impact of nonlinear disturbances on the control system. In addition, the stability of the closed-loop system is analyzed. Comparable simulation results clearly demonstrate the good tracking performance and strong robustness of the proposed control

    Fault Diagnosis and Fault Tolerant Control of Wind Turbines: An Overview

    Wind turbines are playing an increasingly important role in renewable power generation. Their complex and large-scale structure, however, and operation in remote locations with harsh environmental conditions and highly variable stochastic loads make fault occurrence inevitable. Early detection and location of faults are vital for maintaining a high degree of availability and reducing maintenance costs. Hence, the deployment of algorithms capable of continuously monitoring and diagnosing potential faults and mitigating their effects before they evolve into failures is crucial. Fault diagnosis and fault tolerant control designs have been the subject of intensive research in the past decades. Significant progress has been made and several methods and control algorithms have been proposed in the literature. This paper provides an overview of the most recent fault diagnosis and fault tolerant control techniques for wind turbines. Following a brief discussion of the typical faults, the most commonly used model-based, data-driven and signal-based approaches are discussed. Passive and active fault tolerant control approaches are also highlighted and relevant publications are discussed. Future development tendencies in fault diagnosis and fault tolerant control of wind turbines are also briefly stated. The paper is written in a tutorial manner to provide a comprehensive overview of this research topic
