Research and design of corporate networks infrastructure using SDN technologies with emphasis to virtual switch

Software Defined Networking has brought revolution to the world of Network technology which replaces most of the physical devices and control layer of the cloud computing reference model takes control of many Networking Devices. A Virtual Switch is a software by the virtue of which communication between several virtual machines take place. In contrast to physical switch is, it does not only forwards data packets but also checks the data for security before it is forwarded to other virtual machines. Interrelated components of software components work together to form a virtual network infrastructure. Out of the software components, the emphasis is targeted on Virtual switch functions and how it differs from the traditional switches

Piloting mixed reality in ICT networking to visualize complex theoretical multi-step problems

This paper presents insights from the implementation of a mixed reality intervention using 3d printed physical objects and a mobile augmented reality application in an ICT networking classroom. The intervention aims to assist student understanding of complex theoretical multi-step problems without a corresponding real world physical analog model. This is important because these concepts are difficult to conceptualise without a corresponding mental model. The simulation works by using physical models to represent networking equipment and allows learners to build a network that can then be simulated using a mobile app to observe underlying packet traversal and routing theory between the different devices as data travels from the source to the destination. Outcomes from usability testing show great student interest in the intervention and a feeling that it helped with clarity, but also demonstrated the need to scaffold the use of the intervention for students rather than providing a freeform experience in the classroom

Libraries and Museums in the Flat World: Are They Becoming Virtual Destinations?

In his recent book, “TheWorld is Flat”, Thomas L. Friedman reviews the impact of networks on globalization. The emergence of the Internet, web browsers, computer applications talking to each other through the Internet, and the open source software, among others, made the world flatter and created an opportunity for individuals to collaborate and compete globally. Friedman predicts that “connecting all the knowledge centers on the planet together into a single global network…could usher in an amazing era of prosperity and innovation”. Networking also is changing the ways by which libraries and museums provide access to information sources and services. In the flat world, libraries and museums are no longer a physical “place” only: they are becoming “virtual destinations”. This paper discusses the implications of this transformation for the digitization and preservation of, and access to, cultural heritage resources

On the decidability of linear bounded periodic cyber-physical systems

Cyber-Physical Systems (CPSs) are integrations of distributed computing systems with physical processes via a networking with actuators and sensors, where feedback loops among the components allow the physical processes to affect the computations and vice versa. Although CPSs can be found in several complex and sometimes critical real-world domains, their verification and validation often relies on simulation-test systems rather then automatic methodologies to formally verify safety requirements. In this work, we prove the decidability of the reachability problem for discrete-time linear CPSs whose physical process in isolation has a periodic behavior, up to an initial transitory phase

Electronic forms of entertainment in the context of physical activity and addiction risk – a knowledge review

A new way of spending leisure time browsing the Internet, using social networking sites, and playing games has created a new health problem: cell phone addiction. So-called phonoholism or netholism is most thriving among young people, who prioritize entertainment in the real world, which most often necessitates physical activity, over entertainment in the virtual world, which requires a more static approach. However, some companies have gone against the traditional use of phone games by creating multimedia city games that require a dynamic-movement approach. The aim of this review is to gather current theoretical knowledge about electronic forms of entertainment in the context of their influence on users' physical activity, creation of health potential and formation of risk of addiction to such forms of entertainment

An Energy-Efficient Scheme for IoT Networks

With the advent of the Internet of Things era, "things-things interconnection" has become a new concept, that is, through the informatization and networking of the physical world, the traditionally separated physical world and the information world are interconnected and integrated. Different from the concept of connecting people in the information world in the Internet, the Internet of Things extends its tentacles to all aspects of the physical world. The proposed algorithm considers the periodical uplink data transmission in IEEE 802.11ah LWPAN and a real-time raw settings method is used. The uplink channel resources were divided into Beacon periods after the multiple nodes send data to the access point. First, the access point predicted the next data uploading time during the Beacon period. In the next Beacon period, the total number of devices that will upload data is predicted. Then, the optimal read-and-write parameters were calculated for minimum energy cost and broadcasted such information to all nodes. After this, the data is uploaded according the read-and-write scheduling by all the devices. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm effectively improved the network state prediction accuracy and dynamically adjusted the configuration parameters which results in improved network energy efficiency in the IoT environment
