A synthesis approach to predictive control for networked control systems

    Get PDF
This paper studies a synthesis approach to predictive control for networked control systems with data loss and quantization. An augmented Markov jump linear model with polytopic uncertainties is modeled to describe the quantization errors and possible data loss. Based on this model, a predictive control synthesis approach is developed, which involves online optimization of a infinite horizon objective and conditions to deal with system constraints. The proposed MPC algorithm guarantees closed-loop mean-square stability and constraints satisfaction. © 2014 TCCT, CAA.postprin

Quadratic Model Predictive Control Including Input Cardinality Constraints

© 2017 IEEE. This note addresses the problem of feedback control with a constrained number of active inputs. This problem is known as sparse control. Specifically, we describe a novel quadratic model predictive control strategy that guarantees sparsity by bounding directly the l0-norm of the control input vector at each control horizon instant. Besides this sparsity constraint, bounded constraints are also imposed on both control input and system state. Under this scenario, we provide sufficient conditions for guaranteeing practical stability of the closed-loop. We transform the combinatorial optimization problem into an equivalent optimization problem that does not consider relaxation in the cardinality constraints. The equivalent optimization problem can be solved utilizing standard nonlinear programming toolboxes that provides the input control sequence corresponding to the global optimum

Improved quality block-based low bit rate video coding.

The aim of this research is to develop algorithms for enhancing the subjective quality and coding efficiency of standard block-based video coders. In the past few years, numerous video coding standards based on motion-compensated block-transform structure have been established where block-based motion estimation is used for reducing the correlation between consecutive images and block transform is used for coding the resulting motion-compensated residual images. Due to the use of predictive differential coding and variable length coding techniques, the output data rate exhibits extreme fluctuations. A rate control algorithm is devised for achieving a stable output data rate. This rate control algorithm, which is essentially a bit-rate estimation algorithm, is then employed in a bit-allocation algorithm for improving the visual quality of the coded images, based on some prior knowledge of the images. Block-based hybrid coders achieve high compression ratio mainly due to the employment of a motion estimation and compensation stage in the coding process. The conventional bit-allocation strategy for these coders simply assigns the bits required by the motion vectors and the rest to the residual image. However, at very low bit-rates, this bit-allocation strategy is inadequate as the motion vector bits takes up a considerable portion of the total bit-rate. A rate-constrained selection algorithm is presented where an analysis-by-synthesis approach is used for choosing the best motion vectors in term of resulting bit rate and image quality. This selection algorithm is then implemented for mode selection. A simple algorithm based on the above-mentioned bit-rate estimation algorithm is developed for the latter to reduce the computational complexity. For very low bit-rate applications, it is well-known that block-based coders suffer from blocking artifacts. A coding mode is presented for reducing these annoying artifacts by coding a down-sampled version of the residual image with a smaller quantisation step size. Its applications for adaptive source/channel coding and for coding fast changing sequences are examined

DESIGN OF EMBEDDED FILTERS FOR INNER-LOOP POWER CONTROL IN WIRELESS CDMA COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS

ABSTRACT We study inner-loop power control for mobile wireless communication systems using code division multiple access transmission. We focus on the uplink, i.e., on communication from the mobile-to the base-station, and show how to minimise the variance of the signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) tracking error through incorporation of recursive filters. These filters complement existing power controllers and are designed by using a linear model which takes into account quantisation of the power control signal, dynamics of channel gains, interference from other users, target SIR, and SIR estimation errors. Simulation results indicate that significant performance gains can be obtained, even in situations where the models used for design are only an approximation

Model Predictive Control of NCS with Data Quantization and Bounded Arbitrary Time Delays

    Get PDF
The model predictive control for constrained discrete time linear system under network environment is considered. The bounded time delay and data quantization are assumed to coexist in the data transmission link from the sensor to the controller. A novel NCS model is specially established for the model predictive control method, which casts the time delay and data quantization into a unified framework. A stability result of the obtained closed-loop model is presented by applying the Lyapunov method, which plays a key role in synthesizing the model predictive controller. The model predictive controller, which parameterizes the infinite horizon control moves into a single state feedback law, is provided which explicitly considers the satisfaction of input and state constraints. Two numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the derived method

Design and Stability Analysis of Uncertain Networked Predictive Control Systems with Multiple Forward Channels

    Get PDF
This paper is concerned with the design and stability of networked predictive control for uncertain systems with multiple forward channels. The delays and packet dropouts are distributed such that the classic networked predictive control (NPC) needs modifications to be implemented. An improved control signal selection scheme with distributed prediction length is proposed to increase the prediction accuracy and hence achieve better control performance. Moreover, stability analysis results are obtained for both constant and random cases. Interestingly, it is shown that the stability of the closed-loop NPC system is not related to the distributed delays when they are constant and the system model is accurate. Finally, a two-axis milling machine example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method
