An integrated MRP and finite scheduling system to derive detailed daily schedules for a manufacturing shop
Many companies rely on Material Requirements Planning (MRP) to support their Production Scheduling and Control (PS&C) functions. Since MRP does not provide a detailed shop floor schedule, these users have to implement either a third party procedure or an internally developed procedure for shop floor controls. In this thesis we consider a class of user shops which are characterized by the following features:
Homogenous machines, that is all machines can produce all products.
Each product requires a setup, but several products may have a common setup.
MRP requirements are specified on a weekly basis while actual requirements are specified on a hourly basis.
Specifically, we develop a MRP and Finite Scheduling System (MFSS) which calculates the weekly net change requirements of products, then generates the detailed daily job order schedules, and finally sequences jobs on machine queues. The objectives of the system are to maximize the utilization of the machines and to minimize setup times. The MFSS was programmed on a personal computer-based system utilizing off-the-shelf relational database software
UCL (University College London) Libraries Masterplan: Masterplanning Report
BDP were appointed to undertake a Masterplan for the UCL Main Library and the
UCL Science Library and to identify how these buildings could be re-ordered to
significantly improve the quality of the library environment and to facilitate the
delivery of library services.
An initial brief was agreed with UCL’s Estates Management Committee and a
Masterplan Steering Group established including academic representatives,
library staff and design consultants. To inform the development of this brief, UCL
Library Services undertook a number of consultation exercises with users of the
Library; students, academic staff and external users, together with Library staff.
A number of visits to exemplar library buildings in the UK and continental Europe
were also undertaken to inform the development of options for the buildings.
Following the development and review of initial options for both the Main Library
and Science Library, it was agreed a further, hypothetical New Build Central
Library Option should be reviewed, to accommodate a relocated and consolidated
library service encompassing 7 of the 16 existing libraries currently distributed
across the UCL Estate

Integrated Environmental Process Planning for the Design & Manufacture of Automotive Components
Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) logic is widely used by manufacturers for
the design and manufacture of automotive components. Manufacturers are increasingly
finding difficulties to incorporate environmental considerations in the broad range of
products that they manufacture. Therefore, there is a need for a systematic method for
environmental process planning to evaluate product configurations and their associated
environmental impact. The framework and models discussed in this paper can deal with
a variety of product characteristics and environmental impacts through a selection of
Environmental Performance Indicators (EPIs) for a final product configuration. The
framework and models have been applied in a real-life application and have proven that
changes in product design or process selection can reduce the product's environmental
impact and increase process efficiency. Hence, manufacturers can use the framework
and models during the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process to
benchmark each product variation that they manufacture in a standardised manner and
realise cost saving opportunities
Housing supply and planning delay in the South of England
There is growing international interest in the impact of regulatory controls on the supply of housing The UK has a particularly restrictive planning regime and a detailed and uncertain process of development control linked to it. This paper presents the findings of empirical research on the time taken to gain planning permission for selected recent major housing projects from a sample of local authorities in southern England. The scale of delay found was far greater than is indicated by average official data measuring the extent to which local authorities meet planning delay targets. If these results are representative of the country as a whole, they indicate that planning delay could be a major cause of the slow responsiveness of British housing supply
Serbia - public sector accounting review : report on the enhancement of public sector financial reporting
The government’s public financial management (PFM) Reform Program 2016-2020 foresees the gradual transition of public sector financial reporting from a cash basis to an accrual basis of accounting and the application of International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS). This will significantly improve the quality of financial information and should enable better informed decision-making, more efficient use of public funds and resources and improved fiscal performance. This Report on the Enhancement of Public Sector Financial Reporting is one output of the Serbia Public Sector Accounting Reform Technical Assistance project funded by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) through the Strengthening Accountability and Fiduciary Environment (SAFE) Trust Fund under the Public Sector Accounting and Reporting Program (PULSAR) which provides support for the development and implementation of public sector accounting standards. This report supports the development of a plan towards that goal by assessing the institutional framework for public sector accounting as well as the gap between Serbian public sector generally accepted accounting principles (PS GAAP) and IPSAS
